They Cant Reach Me (Chapter 9)

Virgil's POV

Patton and I drive up to his house, parking the car in front of it. The house is small, and is painted a nice, soft, cream color. It has two small stories, and a few flowers out front.

We get out of the car, and walk into his house. His dad is in the living room, his mom in the kitchen, probably cleaning up breakfast from earlier. "Why, hello, Virgil! Good morning." Patton's dad says, putting down his newspaper, and smiling.

"Hello, dears!" His mom calls sweetly from the kitchen. "Hi." I say, in my usual, shy voice. His mother then goes back to doing the dishes, and his father continues reading the newspaper on the couch.

Patton and I walk upstairs in a comfortable silence, going to his room. It is a pale blue color, with bookcases, a tiny desk in the corner, a box of old things from Patton's childhood, a small tv, his closet, two beanbag chairs, and his bed.

We both sit on the beanbag chairs. One is black, and one is blue. I come over quite a bit, so his parents bought these for us. "What's the real reason you came here, Virgil?" Patton asks, like he always does. I sigh softly,

"My... um.. my parents had a fight with Roman... some things happened, and I really don't want to go back for a while.." I wince as I say this, and Patton reaches over and hugs me. "It's alright, kiddo!" He says, "you can stay here as long as you want! My parents are okay with it, they love you!" He reassures.

I smile at this, burying my face in my friends shoulder. Patton is more of a big brother to me, than I friend. "Thank you, Patton.." I murmur. "No problem, kiddo. It my pleasure."

We end up playing video games after a while of talking, and it's about 11 PM when we decide to go to bed. Patton pulls out a small mattress form under his bed, that we keep there for whenever I decide to sleepover, or stay at his house for a few days.

He throws me two blankets and a fluffy pillow, the same ones we always use for when I come over. I curl up on the mattress, and fall asleep almost instantly, feeling safe in the calm environment.

The voices can't reach me, for now.
