twenty-one

- Chapter Twenty-One -
"I'm in."

Luther and Allison soon returned and the first thing that the former did was jump straight into action. "Alright, where's Five?" He asked and the three that were with him before exchanged glances until Diego spoke up.

"He left." He said and he was honest, after Kenny's mother asked him to join the party, he just up and left, disappearing without telling anyone where he was going.

"Oh for the love of...where'd he go?" He asked, looking around at the three adults who were left with him.

"He didn't tell us." Primrose frowned, looking at the seat where Five was once sat, when she looked back up, Klaus was holding some popcorn out to her, a small grin on his face, she smiled and took it, throwing it into the air and high-fiving her friend when it landed in her mouth.

"Well, we're not waiting around for him. The concert starts in 30 minutes." Luther said and they nodded.

"All right, so what's the plan?" Diego stepped forward, looking at his brother, who hesitated and started to stammer over his words.

"I, think, we, uh...we go to the Icarus Theatre." He said finally and Prim rolled her eyes, that was probably about 12% of a plan, better than 11% but still.

"That's a location, not a plan." Diego said and Luther opened and closed his mouth a couple of times, looking for the right words. "What? Is that all you got?"

Luther paused and Diego continued. "Look, you wanna be number one, fine, but you're gonna have to get us on the same page, because right now, we're all over the place." He spat harshly.

"You're right." His brother nodded. "We need a plan."

And like it was all in slow motion, Primrose's gaze drifted to the doors of the bowling alley and men in masks with guns appeared, she reached for Diego and Klaus, pulling them down as the gunfire started.

"Get down!" Luther shouted and they all ducked behind counters and barricades.

Glass shattered all over the place, along with the metal bullets hitting the wooden floors, creating loud thuds to go with the popping of the gunfire.

"Who the hell are these guys?" Diego shouted to his siblings, taking a knife out of his pocket.

"Maybe they're here for Kenny's birthday." Klaus shrugged.

"Not helping, Klaus." Primrose called out to him, clenching her fists as a vibrant glow emitted from them, her eyes grew a violet colour and so did her hair. Just as she got ready to pop over the side of the counter, Diego grabbed her arm, pulling her back down.

"You're not going up there." He said, shaking his head whilst staring right into her eyes.

"I'm your best shot." She smiled and jumped up, holding her hands out as a purple sheath blocked the bullets from coming anywhere near the family, a few ones coming in through the purple, but the ones that got close to Prim's body bounced right off.

Diego popped up and chucked a knife round the side of the shield, the sharp blade successfully hitting one of the shooters as they stumbled back into a record player, which started to blast a song called 'Saturday Night' and the lights grew dark, neon signs illuminating the whole alley.

Luther started to throw bowling balls over the top of the shield, dodging the odd bullet that shot it's way through. Diego kept throwing his knives around the side and Klaus grabbed Kenny's birthday cake from on top of the counter, chucking it towards the men, from the other side, hitting another shooter in the face.

"They're blocking the exit!" Klaus yelled as they retreated behind the counters whilst Primrose was working extra hard with the shield. She grunted with effort as more and more bullets shot towards her.

"So, what's the plan now, Luther?" Diego yelled.

"The lanes! Let's go!" Luther shouted and set off down one of the bowling lanes, the rest of them doing the same whilst Klaus and Diego called for Primrose, who was still casting her shield, if she let it down she would get shot.

"Rosie, come on!" Klaus screamed as the siblings ran, he had no choice but to slide through the pins, standing up straight away as he looked through them at the strawberry-blonde who was thinking of a way to get out. "Prim!"

She looked back and saw his and Diego's head slightly through one of the exits that they had used. She had to try something, she didn't know whether it would work, but she had to try.

"Guys, come on." Luther ordered his brothers, pulling on Klaus' arm, who yanked his limb out of Luther's grip and returned to watching the scene.

"Not without Prim!" He yelled, tears in his eyes.

Primrose yelled with effort and pushed the shield forwards, releasing it from her control as it zoomed towards the still-shooting men, it gave her enough time to turn and run, except the purple glow didnt last for long and they began shooting again. She started making a giant ball of purple energy in her hands, muttering a 'come on' as she ran. Once she had a decently-sized glowing sphere held in her hands, she chucked it herself onto the floor behind her, still running.

The sphere exploded into more light, a blinding one, as the shooters covered their eyes, looking away as she slid through the gap, falling into Klaus and Diego, who had their arms open ready for her. "Oh my god." Klaus breathed, hugging her tightly.

"That was badass." Diego smiled in awe, Luther groaned and rolled his eyes, telling them to hurry and the three set off again, running after the man-ape and Allison.

They soon arrived at the Icarus Theatre, panting and breathing heavily as they rushed up the stairs towards the hall where Vanya's violin music was playing. Primrose smiled lightly at the sound, it was beautiful.

Allison skidded in front of Luther, putting a hand out as she scribbled something in her notepad. 'I need to go alone' it read and Luther protested greatly,

"Allison, I can't let you do that, alright? She's beyond reasoning." Luther said to her and Primrose frowned, she hoped that there was a way to get to Vanya, but with the way things are looking, she didn't think that any hope should be left anymore.

"You hear the music? It's started." Diego shouted, gesturing to the doors that lead to the arena where Vanya was performing.

"Do you honestly think she's gonna listen?" Luther asked his sister, who wrote something else down on her pad of paper, holding it up once again. "After everything that's happened?"

"We don't have time for this." Klaus sighed, looking around the empty room.

"Okay." Luther said and Allison's eyes lit up as she rushed into the arena.

"You're using her as a distraction, aren't you?" Diego asked and Luther nodded. Primrose scoffed and turned away, shaking her head.

"You son of a bi-"

"It'll be our best chance to incapacitate Vanya." He snapped at her and she gave him a deadly glare, his gaze went up to her still purple hair and he grew quite worried, Five said that she had purple hair in the apocalyptic future, it was happening. "She'll thank us later."

Diego looked back at the woman, grabbing her hand and nodding reassuringly. She reluctantly nodded herself and started to trail behind the two men, Klaus stood next to her as Diego let go of her hand.

"So, what's the plan?" Klaus asked.

"Uh, you two wait out front." Luther waved them off and Primrose crossed her arms, looking at Diego, who whistled and spun a knife in his hand.

"Yeah, she doesn't like that." He said.

"I don't care." Luther whispered harshly. "You guys are the lookouts."

"The lookouts?" Klaus and Primrose said in unison as Diego gave the strawberry-blonde a sympathetic smile, disappearing into the auditorium with Luther.

Klaus eventually convinced Prim to get a burrito with him, which she didn't object to, she was actually quite hungry. So, they found a food truck outside and bought some, enjoying their food whilst outside of the theatre.

"I didn't ask for cilantro." Klaus grimaced picking it out and putting it on Primrose's, which she gladly ate, groaning in delight when the hot food travelled down to her stomach.

His eyes travelled through the air, as if they were following someone and he hurriedly turned to Prim, who had her eyebrows furrowed. "Gunfire." He said and her ears immediately perked up at the shooting sound. "Oh shit!" He suddenly exclaimed and pulled Primrose round to the front of the truck, Cha-Cha was heading towards the theatre, limping.

"This is it, mofo. Go time! Go time!" He whispered and snatched the burrito from Prim's hands, throwing it away as he dragged her back towards the theatre.

They ran into the entrance and all the way to the theatre that Vanya was playing in, rushing in the doors, they heard the gunfire shooting down at the siblings from their stationed places inside the auditorium where Vanya was playing. Klaus ran faster than her, because of his long legs.

When she got in, he was screaming about Cha-Cha and that's when she noticed one of the men from the bowling alley, pointing a gun at him. She ran forwards and pushed him down to the ground, shoving him in one of the places between the seats. His hands started to grow blue and he started shaking as Primrose looked to his hands with wide eyes, glancing up at his face.

He stood up and then out of the blue light, formed a blue Ben, who lifted up his shirt and monstrous tentacles flew all over the place grabbing and tearing at the shooters. Primrose breathed out a laugh as she gasped. "Ben!"

The ghost smiled down at her and gave her a wink, letting the tentacles defeat the enemy as the woman below him gaped in awe at his magnificent powers. Primrose saw her hands glow purple too and she raised from her spot, pointing her hands at a shooter and some purple immediately shot out, burning throwing the man and she gasped, aiming at more of the gunmen.

Meanwhile, Diego spotted Cha-Cha on the stage with the instruments and charged at her, throwing her against a wall as they fought, they both kicked and punched at each other, grunting and yelling. He hit her across the face as she was leaned on the railing, he punched her a couple more times, then put a hand to her throat, choking he whilst he raised a fist to punch her again, then a familiar voice rang in his ears.

"I think I might like you."

"You're not a murderer."

"You're a good guy."

"That's what I like about you."

As her voice rang through his head, he lowered his raised arm and stared at Cha-Cha, before releasing the hand that was clasped to his throat and stalking off, he had to tell her now, she had to know even if this didn't all work out.

He came back to the group, and saw Primrose, turning her around and kissing her immediately as his siblings watched with raised eyebrows. "I love you." He said when he pulled away and her shocked face grew into a smile, she didn't think she was quite ready to say it back yet, so she settled on wrapping her arms around his waist as his went around her shoulders, both of them embracing each other tightly.

"Okay, we get it," Luther rolled his eyes and two separated, Primrose smiling sheepishly as Allison nudged Diego teasingly. "Here's the plan, we surround her, all right? We come at her from all angles."

"So it's a suicide mission." Klaus whispered.

"Yeah, but one of us could get through, it's the only chance we've got." Five said and Prim only just noticed his presence since the bowling alley, she nodded at him and got one back.

"Are we all in?" Luther asked and everyone agreed, except Allison, who shook her head, but this was the only plan they had.

"Stage right." He pointed to Diego. "Stage left." To himself. "You guys take the front." To Klaus, Prim and Five, they all ran their separate ways, the three ordered to take the front, crouching behind rows of chairs. After a minute of Vanya playing, Luther gave the signal and they all took off running, only getting so far before she swung her bow and they all started to float mid-air, connected to shaky lines of white light that came from Vanya.

It was like all the energy was being drained out of them, but Primrose's hair was not going back to normal, in fact, it seemed to be turning a darker shade, if that was even possible. A purple glow started to form very slowly, from where Vanya's light hit her, it passed down her white light and up to the others in an agonisingly slow pace, it also started to stretch towards Vanya, but as soon as it reached, a gunshot went off and they were all dropped from the air, breathing heavily.

A large beam shot from Vanya, up to the sky and glass was smashed so that the beam was heading straight for the moon. The woman in the white suit dropped her violin and fell unconscious, back into Allison. The group pushed themselves off of the floor and rushed onto the stage, calling Vanya's name.

"Is she alive?" Luther asked and Allison checked for her pulse, finding one as she nodded to her family. "She is? Yeah?"

They all collectively let out a relieved sigh and Diego threw an arm around Prim's shoulder, pulling her in to place as kiss to her head as she laughed breathlessly.

"We did it, we saved the world." Luther acknowledged and they all started laughing lightly along with the girl who's hair was still a dark purple. Five must've seen this, as he narrowed his eyes at her locks and reached his hand forward, touching one.

"Hey, buddy, whatcha doing?" Primrose furrowed her eyebrows as he held one up to the siblings.

"Her hair." He said and they shared a look. "It's purple."

"That doesn't mean anything." Diego waved it off but Five still looked skeptical. "She just used a ton of her power."

"Uh, guys..." Klaus said, and they all realised head stood up and was pointing towards the sky, where unfortunately, a big rock was flying towards the earth. "You see that big moon rock flying towards us?"

"That's not good." Luther gulped and Primrose raised from her crouching position, trying to conjure some more of her powers, but the glow was too feeble and weak.

"So much for saving the world." Klaus commented as she tried again, the power only coming out weaker.

"At least we're together at the end, as a family." Number One smiled and looked around at them all, even Prim, who smiled gratefully at him.

"This doesn't have to be the end." Five said and they all turned to face him. "I think I have a way out of here but you gotta trust me on this."

Everybody made noises of disagreement so the boy continued impatiently. "Well then, we better accept our fate because in less than a minute we're gonna be vaporised."

"Let's hear him out." Prim suggested and he nodded at her in thanks.

"What's your idea, then?" Diego asked him, turning his head.

"We use my ability to time travel, but this time, I'll take you with me." He said and their eyes widened at the suggestion.

"You can do that?" Diego asked.

"I don't know. I've never tried it before." Five admitted, and Diego looked around at the rest of them, but mainly at Primrose, who nodded reassuringly. "I'm in." He said.

"I'm in." Prim confirmed.

"Yeah, whatever, I'm in." Klaus said.

"Yeah." Luther sighed and turned to the two women on the floor. "Allison?" She nodded and Luther asked Klaus about Ben, who was also in.

"Okay, great, Luther, grab Vanya." Five ordered and his brother did just that, holding her securely. The group held hands and stood close together in a circle, Primrose squeezed Diego's hand and he squeezed back, smiling lightly at the woman.

Five concentrated for a moment and then the same electricity crackling that there always is appeared, along with a bright blue light that encased the circle. Prim's hair slowly turned back to her normal strawberry-blonde colour and purple light mixed with blue.

"It's working! Prim, you're helping!" Luther shouted and the woman closed her eyes once more, focusing her energy into the circle too.

"Hold on! It's gonna get messy." Five screamed and like they were fighting against each other, the purple and blue clashed for a few seconds, before mixing as one and disappearing along with the Hargreeves family, plus Primrose.
