twenty

- Chapter Twenty -
"Sorry, I'm stressed."

Explosions echoed all around the house as Diego and Primrose walked to find the others, hands clasped together for protection and reassurance. "Yo, what the hell is going on?" Diego asked as they came across Pogo and Klaus in a hallway.

"Are those explosion coming from-" Klaus started to ask but got interrupted by Pogo.

"Vanya." Pogo confirmed, facing them alarmingly. "We need to get to safety outside the academy." He said and the siblings, plus Primrose looked at each other before nodding and heading out.

"Don't forget mom!" Luther called after Diego, Klaus and Prim as they ran. Another explosion shook the the house and the strawberry-blonde stumbled slightly, being pulled along by Diego.

"You need to get to safety." He said, pushing her in front of him as they both continued to run.

"You and Klaus do too." She replied, glancing back to Klaus, who smiled nervously, running next to them.

"You're more important." Diego said and Primrose rolled her eyes, scoffing as she made sure they were both staying close to her. She couldn't afford to lose one of them.

They turned a corner as they ran, now walking along one of the balconies. "Mom!" Diego shouted, looking for Grace as Primrose and Klaus whipped their heads around for any sight of the blonde android. "Where is she?"

"Mom!" Klaus called.

"Grace!"

They ran across to the other side, still shouting for her, but the house shook again and bits of the ceiling hit their heads, sending them to the ground as they raised their arms to protect their skulls. Klaus groaned as he rolled around and looked up above the fallen three. There was cracking from above them, the ceiling was going to fall, and Prim realised this as she sat up slightly.

"Diego!" Klaus tapped his brother on the back, trying to get him up, whilst his friend did the same, shaking him.

A large chunk of the ceiling cracked off and fell, close to hitting their bodies, if it wasn't for Primrose. She knelt as fast as she could and raised her hands up, bright purple glows coming out of her hands as she grunted with effort, trying to keep it up. An unknown force pulled Diego and Klaus out from under there as she continued to grit her teeth together due to the weight of the ceiling.

The strands of her hair turned purple and so did her eyes, unlocking her true power once more as she gave one last push of her arms and sent the ceiling back up, only for a moment for her to get out of the way, until it came crashing back down.

"Holy shit." Klaus said, looking up at an empty space. Primrose stood up and also looked at the space, furrowing her eyebrows.

"Ben?" She turned to Klaus who nodded, before getting attacked by the woman herself as she held his head in her hands and checked for bleeding. "Are you okay? I tried to keep it up but I don't know if it got you or-"

"I'm okay." He smiled lightly and swapped his attention to his living brother, who was pushing himself up. "Oh, come on, come on, Diego." The man on the floor put one arm around Klaus' shoulders and another round Prim's as they helped him down the landing again.

They found a fire exit and scrambled down it, pushing themselves into an alleyway so they could take a breather. "Oh my god, are you okay?" Primrose got closer to Diego, checking him for injuries just as she did with Klaus.

"Hey," Diego cupped her cheeks, bringing her head down to kiss her on the forehead. "You saved my life." He hugged her tightly, the woman responding by wrapping her own arms around his waist, another body joined the hug as Diego pulled in Klaus, claiming that he had also saved his life when it was really Ben.

"Shit." Diego pulled away suddenly. "Mom!" He yelled, looking up to the building, where Grace was stood from a high up window.

"Grace." Prim gasped, looking up at her. "You gotta get out of there! Come on!" She shouted up. The two brothers that were with her also started yelling and shouting for her to come out of the shaking building.

"I'm coming after you!" Diego started to run back to the house but Klaus and Prim grabbed his arms, restraining him, whilst Grace waved and blew a kiss at them through the window. The strawberry-blonde teared up a Grace sent her a wink, milliseconds before more and more of the house came crashing down, blocking her from sight.

"Mom!" Diego screamed as dust clouds came falling and Primrose wrapped her arms around his waist from behind to try and stop him from getting closer, she used practically all of her strength.

The house was in ruins, bricks and plaster all cluttered together along with the rest of the furniture that had been blown to pieces. Memories of that day seven years ago came to mind as she looked at the rubble. She saw herself screaming and crying for her family, she saw herself being dragged away by the police officers, despite her loud protests.

"He didn't make it." Luther came behind her with Allison, snapping her from her trance as she turned around, wiping tears from her cheeks. "Vanya killed him." He sighed.

"But Vanya wouldn't-"

"No, I saw it." He said. "Just before we got out."

"Mom, now Pogo." Diego gasped, sitting himself down on the bricks as Prim did the same, covering her face with her hands, she could've prevented it. She could've saved both of them, if she got them both in the same place, she could've made a forcefield around all three of them whilst the rest got out.

Silent tears went down her rosy cheeks as she thought about what could've been. Another body joined her side, Klaus, she looked up at him with guilt and regret swimming in her eyes. The man shook his head almost immediately and wrapped an arm around her shoulder, pulling her in for a side hug as she buried her face into his shoulder.

"Guys!" A new voice joined the conversation and Five was making his way over to them, paper in hand as he climbed over the different bits of plaster and rock. The group looked up to him with sad eyes as he came closer. "This is it. The apocalypse is still on. The world ends today." He said.

"I thought you said it was over." Luther sighed, stepping closer as Primrose and Klaus stood up from the pile of left over building.

"I was wrong, okay? This newspaper, I found in the future the day I got stuck, the headline hasn't changed and Primrose has her purple hair, just like she did in the apocalypse." He held up the paper and pointed at the woman, whose hair still hadn't returned to normal.

"No, that doesn't mean anything." Diego said. "Time could've been altered since that newspaper came out this morning." He had tears in his eyes as he looked at his brother.

"You're not listening to me." Five groaned. "When I found it, I assumed that this place came down along with everything else. But here we are, the moons still shining, the earth is in one place, but not the Academy."

Klaus snatched the paper from him, looking over the front page. "I'm confused." He said.

"Then listen to me, you idiot, Vanya destroys the academy before the apocalypse." Five sighed. "I thought Harold Jenkins was the cause, but he was the fuse, Vanya's the bomb, Vanya causes the apocalypse." He told them and helicopter blades starting whirring from above.

"We have to find her." Luther said as the police light from the helicopter shone down on them and Primrose squinted her eyes up at it, her hair returning to its natural colour, for a reason unknown.

"We have to go, now." Diego brought his hands up to his face as he stood.

"Regroup at the superstar, let's go." Luther ordered and Five blinked out of sight, leaving the rest of them to run, Klaus presumably with Ben, Allison with Luther and Primrose with Diego, who held her hand softly.

The superstar was a bowling alley, the one that Primrose was thinking of getting a job at after she got fired, but she never really did, due to the Hargreeves family and their shenanigans. The group was sat at a lane, with bowling shoes pulled onto their feet, slightly chipping away their serious aura.

"Look, I hate to be the one to say this, but everybody needs to prepare." Luther said, looking around at his siblings, plus Primrose.

"For what?" Diego asked, sat next to Prim as she played with a strand of her strawberry-blonde hair.

"To do whatever it takes to stop Vanya." The bigger man replied. Allison hit him in the chest with her notepad as Primrose dropped her hair and glared at him. "I- we may not have a choice, Allison." Luther sighed.

"Bullshit." Diego replied. "There's always options."

"Yeah like what?" Five asked him, quite harshly if Primrose do say so herself.

"I don't know."

"How about we try talking to her like normal people instead of treating her like a powerless kid like you've all done your whole life?" Primrose muttered, staring at her colourful bowling shoes as the rest of the siblings stared at her and she looked up. "Sorry, I'm stressed."

"Look, whatever we decide, we need to find Vanya, and fast, okay? She could be anywhere." Luther stood up from his seat

"Or...here. Look at this." Klaus shook the newspaper he was holding slightly and smoothed it down on his knee, pointing to an ad that showed Vanya's beaming smile, holding a violin. His siblings and his friend crowded around him and examined the ad.

"That's right. Her concert is tonight." Diego said, his breath hitting the back of Primrose's neck as she took a sharp inhale and continued to look at the paper.

"Hello." Someone said from behind them and they turned to see a worker in a blue polo shirt with a name badge clipped onto it. "I hate to intrude, but my manager says if you're not gonna bowl, you gotta leave." She shrugged with a smile and a balding man at the front desk slammed some shoes on it, scowling at the family.

"Oh, for..." Luther scoffed and picked up a ball, chucking it down a lane and earning a strike. Primrose cheered silently and was about to go and have a go herself, if it wasn't for Diego shaking his head at her, making her shrink back into her seat with her lips pressed together in a thin line.

In the meantime, Allison had scribbled something down on the paper and was now showing Luther, it read 'shes our sister' and she tapped it with her pen a couple of times.

"We're the only ones capable of stopping this." Luther replied, looking at his sister. "We have a responsibility to Dad."

"To Dad?" Diego swivelled around to face him as Primrose furrowed her eyebrows. "No, I've heard enough about-"

"He sacrificed everything to bring us back together and I'm guessing to bring Primrose here, too, you know how he was always talking about how much he wanted to get rid of Armitage lab." Luther interrupted and Prim's heart dropped, their father finally got their wish, and the man looked suspiciously like someone she had seen hiding across the street from the lab, on the day of the explosion. As she took a moment for it to sink in, Five spoke.

"I'm with Luther on this one. We can't give her a chance to fight back. Also, sorry Primrose about your family, by the way, our dad was a horrible person." He smiled and she inhaled sharply, looking away from the siblings, needing some time to process. "There are billions of lives at stake, we're past trying to save just one."

The explosion hadn't been an accident? Reginald Hargreeves did it? He killed Prim's family, the son of a bitch.

"Hey, you know, guys, uh...maybe I could help." Klaus spoke up and Primrose faced him, he gave her a pointed look and gestured to an empty space next to him and she nodded encouragingly.

"Now is not the time." Luther looked at him disapprovingly, getting a glare from Primrose.

"No, let him finish," Diego demanded, holding a hand up to Luther. "He saved my life today." He elaborated as Klaus stood, after seeing Primrose's raised eyebrows.

"Is that true?" Luther asked him.

"Yeah, yeah, Primrose did too. And I...took the credit for it. In fact, the real hero here, is Ben."

All of them, except for Primrose eyed him skeptically, as well as disappointedly and he sighed. "Today, he punched me in the face. And earlier at the house, he was the one who saved Diego's life whilst Rosie was occupied with the ceiling, not me." He had moved over to his brother and was pointing at him.

"You are unbelievable, Klaus." Luther scolded.

"Hey!" Prim raised her voice slightly. "I was there, it happened." She said and crossed her arms, leaning back in her seat whilst Klaus shot her a grateful smile.

"You want proof, is that it?" He asked, moving over to the bowling balls. "All right, I'll give you proof." He picked up a pink ball, talking to an empty space as he got ready to throw the ball.

"Catch!" He said but the ball flew straight through the air and bounced on the floor, Klaus looked crestfallen as he stared at the space, sheepishly lowering his hands as the siblings stared at him disapprovingly.

"Is there any way to silence that voice in your head that screams out to be the centre of attention?" Luther snapped and Primrose stood out of her seat, a deadly glare on her face as she went to go towards the bog man, but Diego held her back, muttering calming things as she lowered herself back down to her chair, the man sitting down next to her, resting a hand on her knee.

"You know, I liked you a lot better before you got laid." He said to his brother and the strawberry-blonde's eyes widened, as well as Diego's and Luther's, Allison just looked plain shocked. Klaus realised his mistake and continued speaking. "Which was a complete...it wasn't his fault because he was ridiculously high, right? And the girl, she thought he was a furry-"

"Stop!" Luther demanded and Klaus scratched the back of his head, turning away. He slowly turned to Allison, who stormed out of the bowling alley, Luther following.

"Aren't they siblings? I just though they were the closest and that was why they cared for each other so much." Primrose scrunched her nose up, looking at Diego, who nodded, a grim sort of look on his face.

"Yep."

"Isn't that incest?"

"Yep."

Primrose took a moment before nodding. "Yeah, okay, that's...okay."

"Excuse me!" A woman practically screeched as she came up to Five, a teenage boy at her side. "Excuse me, it's my son Kenny's birthday today, and...uh, wouldn't your son be happier playing with kids his own age?" She asked and Primrose raised her eyebrows.

"Assuming it's okay with your two dads and your sister."

They all froze as they stared at the woman and Primrose had to bite her lip and look down at her feet to stop her from laughing out loud. Five, however, leaned forward slightly.

"I would rather chew off my own foot." He spat and the woman and her kid scurried off, Five also walking away after a moment as Klaus got up from his seat.

"If," Diego started. "I didn't have a girlfriend and I was going to date a man, you'd be the last man I would date." He finished and Primrose blushed heavily, being called his girlfriend, he hadn't actually asked her but she didn't mind, she didn't mind at all.

"You'd be lucky to get me." Klaus said and Primrose couldn't hold her laughter anymore, giggling slightly as the blush was still on her cheeks.

She glanced at Diego, who was leaned back in his seat as he winked at her, making her blush again and turn away to face Kenny's birthday party.
