- Chapter Three -
"She wears lots of pink and her name is Primrose, pretty sure she's not evil."
The Hargreeves siblings plus Primrose were all sat in the living room, waiting for somebody to speak up. Luther and Vanya, who Prim had yet to meet, were sat on the two sofas, tapping their feet awkwardly. Diego and Allison sat in chairs in front of the fireplace which had a painting of small young boy above it. Lastly, Primrose was sat on one of the bar-stools, waiting for Klaus to make his drink.
"I guess we should get this started." Luther announced as he stood up, bringing the redheads attention from her water to him. "I figured we could have a sort of memorial service, in the courtyard at sundown, just say a few words at dads favorite spot."
Klaus turned around to get another form of alcohol to add to his mixture and while he did so, Prim poured some of her water into his cup so it wasn't as strong. She presumed that Ben was congratulating her silently as he normally did when she didn't encourage her friends drinking habits.
"Dad had a favourite spot?" Allison asked, sipping some of her drink that she had gotten from the bar.
"You know, under the oak tree." Luther explained, pausing when there was deadly silence. "We used to sit out there all the time, none of you ever did that?"
Primrose pulled her lips into a thin line and looked around at the siblings knowing looks, she met eyes with Diego and smiled, causing him to look away but she still saw the smallest twitch of his lips, her smile was contagious.
"Will there be refreshments?" Klaus asked, coming out from behind the bar and walking over to the sofas, Prim in tow as she plopped down next to Vanya, who smiled slightly, causing her to grin back at her.
"Tea? Scones? Cucumber sandwiches are always a winner, Rosie here loves cucumber sandwiches." He pointed to his friend with his cigarette as she nodded fereventy, she loved cucumber sandwiches.
"Okay, I just- who are you?" Luther asked quite rudely.
"Oh, I'm Primrose Armitage." She stood up and did her normal greeting of the shake of a hand. He stared down at her arm and his eyes grew wide at her last name.
"A-Armitage? As in Armitage tech?" He almost choked on his spit. She sheepishly nodded and retracted her hand as he didn't shake it. "The place that blew up?"
"I'd rather not talk about it." She sat back down on her chair, bouncing her knees and letting herself smile to try and rid of all the memories.
"Whatever, why are you even here?" He asked harshly.
"I asked her to be here. Moral support, y'know?" Klaus waved him off, plopping down on the sofa next to Primrose, careful not to spill his drink.
"I can go, it's okay ,I can leave if you want." She offered to Luther standing up and walking towards the entrance hall, but being held back by Klaus.
"No stay."
"Klaus if she wants to go she can go. This is for family." Luther argued.
"She is my family." Klaus argued back to him, sporting puppy dog eyes at his larger brother, who kept his face stony and cold. His sentence made her heart warm and she placed a hand on her chest, smiling.
"Klaus, I'll just meet you back at the apartment, if he doesn't want me to be here it's okay." She tried to walk away but once again was pulled back by her friend.
The two men argued back and forth about whether or not she should leave or stay. Allison's eyes met hers and she smiled apologetically, causing her to wave it off and awkwardly rock on her feet.
"She stays." Vanya spoke up, silencing them. "If she's here for moral support, for Klaus, she stays?" She elaborates, getting more uncertain about her words as she spoke, making Luther huff and give up.
Klaus smirked and gestured back to the sofa where she took her place, smiling thankfully at the small woman sat next to her.
"Whatever, and put that out, you know dad didn't allow smoking in here." Luther grew impatient, sparing Prim a harsh glare when he eyed his brothers burning cigarette.
"Is that my skirt?" Allison asked Klaus, looking down at his bottom half where indeed, her skirt was covering. Primrose smiled amusedly and laughed softly, watching as he twirled around in it.
"What?" He asked her before processing what she said and replying. "Oh yeah, this. I found it in your room. A little dated, I know, but it's very breathy on the...bits." Prim grimaced but chucked nonetheless and brought her water up to her lips.
"Listen up! There's still some important things we need to discuss alright?" Luther spoke again, his voice raised and filled with authority as he stared down at all of his siblings, plus Primrose.
"Like what?" Diego asked him, turning his head.
"Like the way he died."
"Here we go." The man in black pulled his lips into a thin line and looked down at his lap, shaking his head with an irritated smile.
"I don't understand, I thought they said it was a heart attack." Vanya said, shifting in her seat as Klaus plopped himself back down next to Prim and pulled at the ends of her curls, watching them bounce back up into her tight ponytail.
"Yeah, according to the coroner." Luther told his sister. Prim furrowed her eyebrows and took another sip of her water, looking at her friend who shrugged and took a swig of his alcohol.
"Well, wouldn't they know?" Vanya asked him.
"Theoretically."
"Theoretically? Coroners have been to universities and have degrees, I think they would know what killed him for sure." Primrose shrugged, a small smile graced her lips as the big man glared at her. Diego nodded along to her statement, playing with one of his metal knives.
"I'm just saying, at the very least something happened." Luther argued. "Last time that I talked to dad, he sounded strange."
"Oh! quelle suprise!" Klaus gurgled on his alcohol, waving his hands around.
"Strange how?" Allison asked her brother, dismissing her other one as he wiped off the drops of his drink that had spilled onto his arms.
"He sounded on edge. Told me to be careful who I trust." He answered, looking at Primrose for the last part, narrowing his eyes into a scowl, it annoyed him how she continued to smile, even if it was only small and light.
"Luther, he was a paranoid, bitter old man, who was beginning to lose what was left of his marbles." Diego mumbled, standing up from his chair. "Klaus how long have you known Primrose?" He looked down at his brother.
"5 wonderful years." He reminisced, looking at the woman next to him and smiling.
"What does she work as?" Diego asked again, hoping to prove Luther's theory about Prim wrong.
"Oh, she works in a lovely little flower shop, one time when it was my birthday, she made me this little bouquet of white and red flo-" He answered, launching into a story.
"She's known our brother for 5 years, she works in a flower shop, she wears lots of pink and her name is Primrose. Pretty sure she's not evil." Diego told his brother, cutting of Klaus' story about the tulips she got for him.
"He must have known something was going to happen." Luther argued, dismissing his brothers little interrogation of Prim. "Look I know you don't like to do it, but I need you to talk to dad." He looked down at Klaus who pointed a finger to himself with a shocked face. Allison scoffed, shaking her head whilst bringing her glass up to her lips.
"I can't just...call dad in the afterlife and be like 'Dad, could you just, stop playing tennis with Hitler for a moment and take a quick call?'" He told his brother.
"Since when? that's your thing!"
"He's not in the right...frame of mind." Prim told the rest of his siblings, trying to tell them that he was high in the nicest way possible. Luther shook his head and glared at two of the adults sat on the sofa.
"You're high?" Allison asked incredulously.
"Yeah, yeah, how are you not? Listening to this nonsense." Klaus looked around at the rest of his siblings. Then at Prim who gave a slight nod of her head, agreeing that Luther was being unreasonable.
"Well sober up! This is important."
"In all due respect, Luther, people can't just sober up with the click of their fingers, it's going to take time." Prim frowned, shrugging her shoulders.
"Then there's the issue about the missing monocle." He ignored her, beginning to list his theories.
"Who gives a shit about a stupid monocle?" Diego began to grow irritated, clenching his fists every now and then, playing with his knives, Primrose only hoped that he wouldn't decide to stab his brother in the neck with one of them.
"Exactly." Luther clicker his fingers. "It's worthless, whoever took it, I think it was personal. Someone close to him, someone with a grudge."
"Where are you going with this?!" Klaus exclaimed, not understanding what he was trying to say.
"Oh, isn't it obvious, Klaus?" Diego smirked, looking up at Luther, glancing around at all of his siblings, plus Primrose, lingering a bit longer on her, before speaking again. "He thinks one of us killed dad."
The only sound in the room after that was the ticking pf the clock, everybody sat frozen as they processed the news. Luther looked to the ground and then glared at Diego afterwards.
"You do?" Klaus asked him.
"How could you think that?" Vanya says, hurt flashing across her face as she began to stand up.
"Great job, Luther. Way to lead." Diego clapped him on the shoulder and stalked out of the living room.
"That's not what I'm saying." Luther defending, sighing as his family began to all disperse from the room, Primrose following.
"You're crazy, man. Crazy." Klaus told him, walking out as Luther shouted after them that he wasn't finished.
"I'm not finished!"
"Oh, I'm just going to go kill mom, be right back." He chuckled darkly, taking his alcohol and cigarette with him, Primrose followed after him, not really wanting to be in a room alone with Luther when he could probably break her arm by merely touching it.
"Armitage!" A voice called from behind her as she strolled into the entrance hall, behind her friend. She turned to see Diego walking up to her, he stopped about two feet away and looked down at her curiously. "When is your birthday?" He asked her bluntly.
"21st November, 1989." She told him slowly, not knowing why he needed to know when she was born. A look of confusion settled itself on his face. "Then how did you get your powers if..." he trailed off, realizing what happened.
"The explosion." They said at the same time, Prim sucked in a deep breath. "I was in a forcefield whilst it was being tested and then it happened, whilst I was inside so I got these things." A purple glow came out of her hands as she waved them around, smiling softly.
"Oh well, sorry." He said, trying to look sympathetic but he was never really good at emotions.
"It's okay, I know it might make some people sad but, I like to imagine what things would be like if it had never happened. I would be sat at home with my fiance, might have a child, I don't know. But, you don't always get what you want." She told him, sitting herself down on the wooden steps as he stayed stood up, unsure as to why she was telling him this.
"What was his name? Your fiancée?" He asked, it was weird to think that this stranger was opening up to him about the most traumatic experience of her life, but he guessed that she would rather not keep everything bottled inside, makes being nice all the time so much easier.
"Her name was Violet." Prim sighed and Diego grew red with embarrassment.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have assumed that you were...when you're...yeah- I, um, sorry." He cursed himself for assuming that she was straight, wanting to just be out of the situation, he was never good with emotions or deep conversations that people would engage in. He got ready to run away, saving himself from the embarrassment and emotions.
"No problem." She laughed. "I'm actually bisexual so I like both, but...Violet was special. Anyway, see you around Diego, nice talk." Patting his shoulder, she ran up the stairs, hoping to find wherever Klaus ran off to.
"See you around, sugar." He muttered, knowing it was no use to speak louder as she had already bounced up the stairs to the second floor, her bright persona never failing.
