- Chapter Forty-One -
"But he's my family and no one hurts my family."

"We're not gonna make it!" Diego yelled out to Five and Primrose as they ran across the field, every bullet piercing through the large purple shield Primrose had made missing them by only inches. It had held up nicely but was slowly beginning to crumble with the force of the many bullets hitting it but Prim couldn't afford to stop or even slow down a little bit so she couldn't make a new one.

She was running in between the two brothers, half-tempted to push Diego in front of them because she knew for a fact that he could run faster than her but for some reason he was staying by their side. But pushing him would slow herself down and once again, she didn't want to risk it and get a bullet through the chest for helping Diego stay alive.

Five grabbed onto Prim's arm and she snapped her eyes to it as he pushed her sideways into Diego, bodies colliding harshly as Five reached round and put another one of his hands on Diego now that Primrose was squished in between them and he could actually reach his brother.

"What are you doing?" He asked just before the three of them were submerged into a blue blip and stumbled out of it again now closer to the barn with their feet denting the snow below them instead of grass which they had previously been on.

It wasn't far that they had jumped, but enough to get them towards a red tractor thing they could hide behind. Primrose nearly fell at the sudden jump but she grabbed onto Diego for support and he tried to hold her up as much as he could whilst keeping them running.

"Five, I think I'm gonna puke." Diego called over the sound of the bullets as he tripped over his feet the slightest bit, Prim now being the one pulling him up as best she could as their legs worked tirelessly to take them further towards the tractor.

"No time!" Five got ahead of them, ducking behind the red vehicle and being followed quickly by Diego and Primrose.

They sat with their backs against the metal and Primrose was the first one to get out of her position, Diego going to grab her if she decided to stupidly stand up but all she did was look towards Five and cup his face in her hands, taking his brother by surprise. Five closed his eyes in exasperation but let Prim moved his head and touch his arms to check him for injuries.

"Are you hit?" She asked hurriedly, Five murmuring a soft no and she moved to Diego, forgetting about past arguments as she grabbed his face the same way she had done with Five, checked him, before checking his arms and body too. "Are you hit?"

"No." He panted, taking Prim's hands in his and moving them away from him slowly as bullets hit and ricocheted off the tractor. She nodded and sat back against the tractor, breathing just as heavily as they were.

"What now?" Five muttered to himself, warily glancing behind him at the noise of bullets coming over the tractor.

"We blink into the house, man!" Diego yelled and Prim nodded, letting Five grasp her arm again as he put his other hand on Diego's knee and stared at the house with purpose.

His hand thrummed with energy, the familiar blue light coming around it for a second and it disappeared as soon as it came. Primrose stared at it warily before looking at Five's confused face as he tried again but the same thing happened, only his hand glowed with the light before it disappeared and the three were still leaning against the tractor instead of being inside the house.

"What?" Diego practically shrieked at the malfunctioning of Five's power and Prim closed her eyes in defeat.

"Shit." Five pulled his hands away from them, shaking his head as he glanced around them to try and figure out something else that he could do. "I'm out of fuel. I'm too tired."

"You too, go!" Diego looked at them and Primrose's eyes snapped open as she stared at him and her eyebrows scrunched together in slight confusion, Five had the same reaction. "I'll cover for you, go!"

"Diego, what are you-" Five tried to ask as Diego popped out from behind the tractor, welcoming himself to the Commission whilst Primrose scrambled for his arm to pull him back but he was out of reach.

"Go!" He yelled. "Both of you!"

Five went to grab Primrose, getting up and she stood with him, starting to run with him but she looked back to see Diego using his powers to freeze the bullets in the air coming towards him. Five tried to tug her along again but she pulled back, getting her arm free of his grip.

"Primrose, we have to go, now!" Five yelled.

"You go!" She shooed him and he paused for a second before shaking his head at her and running away towards the house.

Prim turned back around and went to help Diego as the bullets seemed to be getting too much but as she reached his side, he directed the bullets to somewhere else and turned around, grabbing her and pulling her down so they were both back behind the tractor.

"I thought I told you to go." He turned to face her, unafraid to meet her eyes as he panted at the strength it had taken to do what he had just done.

"We don't trade lives." She replied, her eyebrows furrowing straight afterwards as she glanced to the side and Diego leaned back slightly, narrowing his eyes at her.

"Did you just quote Avengers?" He asked her.

"Yes." She nodded once before looking back up at him whilst he raised his eyebrows at her, it definitely wasn't a time for movie quotes. "Felt fitting."

The bullets got louder, deafening, which was a clear sign that the Commission were getting closer and much more violent. Primrose flinched at the sound and gulped, putting her hands in front of her and working up the purple, it sparked a couple of times before it became stronger and she nodded, glancing above her at the bullets flying over the top.

"They're too strong, Prim." Diego grabbed her hands, lowering them as he felt the warmth of the glow dissipating from her hands and her eyes grew sad. Both adults flinched as the gunshots rang louder and Prim ducked her head out of instinct, before bringing it back up and looking around for another solution.

"I just want to help." She whispered to herself, glancing around. Five was inside the house  but she couldn't see what he was doing from the windows, she couldn't see Allison, Klaus and Luther either  but she hoped they were somewhere safe.

She felt Diego's hands on her arms, pulling her slightly down so she was curled up instead of being sat up. He put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close as he ducked his head and flinched at another round of bullets coming their way. "You always help but you can't with this."

She frowned but admitted defeat, tensing at the battle cries of the Commission whilst squeezing her eyes shut and ducking her head again. And when she allowed herself to melt into Diego and cover her face for a feeling of extra protection, a high-pitched tone resonated around her and she picked her head up, eyes widening at the sight of Vanya flying out of the barn, chest glowing with the same energy she always produced.

Her skin was white just like it had been in 2019 when she had started the apocalypse but now she looked much more in control as she hovered in the air facing the Commission and her scary eyes pierced into them. The tone got louder and Diego exclaimed, taking Prim and turning slightly, wrapping his arms around her protectively as they ducked their heads again in preparation for Vanya's blow.

It came with heavy, howling wind that blew Primrose's hair back as she and Diego protected themselves, hoping they didn't get picked up with the power. After a minute, it all died down and the silence was bliss, just Prim and Diego huddled up behind the tractor and panting. Diego separated from her and Primrose sat up soon after him.

He laughed slightly in a exasperated way and stood up before putting a hand down for her and she didn't hesitate before taking it and standing up with his health, putting a hand to her stomach in shock whilst Diego laced their fingers together. She wanted to pull away but couldn't find the strength too after that traumatic experience.

"Oh, shit." Diego muttered and she turned around, walking closer to him as their arms had been stretched out with the distance he put in between them. She reached him and looked to where he was staring, widening her eyes at the sight of the blue forcefield around what appeared to be Lila and The Handler.

"How did they do that?" She asked quietly, feeling his thumb begin to rub calming circles on the back of her and but she pulled it away from him, frowning as she crossed her arms over her chest. Diego's eyes were on her but she ignored him.

The forcefield disappeared but then a piercing high-pitched tone filled the air and Primrose whipped her head around to face Vanya but furrowed her eyebrows when the woman wasn't doing anything, two fingers placed themselves on her chin and Diego turned her head back around to the field and her mouth fell agape in shock.

Lila was slowly rising into the air with the same energy glowing from her chest that Vanya had. She looked just as white and the wind whistled just as aggressively as it did when Vanya used her own powers.

"That's not normal." Diego commented, beginning to backtrack with Primrose by his side doing the same  but keeping her wide eyes on Lila.

The whistling got louder and soon enough the wipe-out that had knocked out the commission was coming back towards them and although it would do very little good, Primrose and Diego began to run again, Prim attempting that large wall thing again but the energy knocked her off  of her feet before she could even make the ball, sending her flying.

She landed roughly on her front, arms buried in the snow and her teeth chattered at the sight and the feeling of the cold on her bare arms, her eyes glanced around and she found Diego in the same predicament a couple of feet away from her with the tractor behind him and on his foot; he couldn't move.

"Diego!" She gasped, scrambling up from where she was lay and running over to him only to just crouch back down by his side. "Are you okay?"

"Well, my foots kinda stuck but other than that I'm dandy." He said and she rolled her eyes at him, crawling from where she was sat by his side towards where the tractor was on his foot. "You?"

"Cold." She said, teeth chattering as she surveyed just how stuck his foot was. "Okay, don't try and struggle because you might tear your foot off, I don't know I'm not a doctor but I watched this horror movie and the girl had her arm stuck and she tried to pull it out and it came like straight off and my powers can't reattach limbs I don't think so-"

"Not helping." Diego cut her off, grunting and she whimpered, hoping his foot wasn't crushed already.

"Well, I'm sorry, I don't know what to do." She freaked out slightly, throwing her hands up before rubbing them on her thighs to calm herself down. "Okay, okay, I'll try and lift the truck up."

Prim shook her hands slightly, taking encouraging breaths for herself before she put her hands on the bit of the vehicle that was holding Diego's foot down and tried to lift it up. She strained and gasped and swore a couple of times but it didn't lift; it was unsurprising but she still had a tiny bit of hope it might work.

"Okay, let me try again."

"No." A voice with a British accent said and Primrose froze, hands on the tractor as she heard Lila and her footsteps crunched in the snow. "My turn."

"Lila-" Diego said from where he was lay.

"Shut up, pig." She spat and Primrose stood slowly, turning to face Lila who tilted her head at the strawberry-blonde in front of her. "So you're Primrose. Not a very loyal one you have here, huh?"

"He has his faults." She said, backing up slightly and Lila smiled, sticking her hands in the pockets of her leather jacket; it was a friendly smile, the type of one you'd offer to someone you knew across the street but didn't have time to talk to them.

"I don't want to hurt you, Primrose." She said, still smiling but Prim didn't let her guard down. Her hands were by her side but any sight of her powers and Lila would probably change her mind. "After all we've both been wronged by that turd down there, but I do want to hurt Five and if you have a problem with that then my ideologies might just need to twist."

"Then twist them." Primrose declared and Diego seethed her name but she ignored him as Lila's eyebrows rose with amusement. "Does Five deserve to be hurt? Yes, mostly every time I'm in his presence. But he's my family and no one hurts my family."

"And no on deserves to lose both their families in two different time lines." Lila says and Primrose frowned slightly as Lila took her hands out of her pockets. "But here we are."

Lila swung first, her fist colliding with Primrose's cheek and sending her head to the side but Primrose retaliated with her own fist in the girl's face. Lila went to kick her but Primrose grabbed her leg, twisting it back around so Lila stumbled and fell to the floor; but she got straight back up and the two girls engaged in hand-to-hand combat.

From what she'd seen Lila do, Primrose guessed it wasn't best to use her power with the girl so settled on all that training her father had given her. She couldn't remember it all, just bits and she hoped desperately that bits would be enough. Lila seemed to be matching her skill as the two of them swung, kicked and grabbed at each other, ducking punches and dodging other hits.

It wasn't until Lila swung her leg around high that Primrose was put off, her foot struck her right in the face and sent her to the floor, coughing out droplets of blood from her mouth and throat whilst she tried to regain her composure and Diego started spewing from nonsense. Primrose realised why when she stood back up and Lila was crouched down beside Diego, she took a step forward as Lila stood up and brandished one of Diego's knives in her hand.

She threw it and Primrose forgot to duck but instead out of reflex from all those times Diego had attacked her, rose a hand with a purple glow and stopped the knife from piercing her abdomen. Then with fear, her eyes grew wide and her head shot up to face Lila who now had her own hands glowing. She couldn't do much with forcefield powers...or so Primrose thought.

Everyone around the barn could probably hear Diego's anguished scream at what happened next but none could risk to quell their curiosity and look outside, Primrose stood with her mouth agape and a small line of blood travelling out of her mouth whilst she stared at Lila in front of her who had used her power to undo Primrose's...

...and caused the knife to stab her in her abdomen.
