Chapter 8

Jungkook woke to the unfamiliar surroundings and a constant beeping noise. His nose scrunched at the smell of disinfectants. A groan slipped past his lips. His entire body was sore, as if he hadn't moved his limbs in a while. When he blinked his eyes, he wat met with wide pink eyes and pouty lips. Up close, those eyes were even pretty, and the pout so prominent.

"Little monkey," he whispered. "Where am I?" He glanced around and winced as pain shot from the back of his head.

The little fairy's lips moved, but the sounds came out as a squeak. Jungkook understood nothing. He felt a slight prickly sensation when the fairy hit his chin. The incoherent squeaking continued before it flew away.

"Hey, don't leave," he croaked, but the fairy was already gone. His little monkey slipped through the A/C vent and disappeared from his view.

Jungkook sank against the pillow and tried to recall everything that had happened before he woke up. His thoughts were scrambled.

A minute later, Namjoon poked his head inside. "You're awake."

"Hyung." Jungkook tried to smile but winced slightly at the movement.

"You scared me, buddy. The ambulance in this town is too slow, and I thought you would bleed out before I arrived."

"Oh," Jungkook remembered the fall. But he didn't have a long time to process because the little fairy was poking his head out from Namjoon's pocket. Jungkook's eyes widened, and he froze.

Namjoon, however, looked down at his chest with a fond smile. "This little guy here saved your life. He stopped your bleeding and guarded you until I arrived. Honestly, I almost shit my pants because of him. He can be quite scary."

"You met him too?" Jungkook asked. So the fairy didn't hide.

"Yeah. He threatened to kill me at least twice before he let me anywhere near you. Didn't know you were buddies."

The fairy squeaked something unintelligible again. Jungkook strained his ears to no avail. All he heard was pretty squeaky voices that almost had him coo at the fairy. He would have if not for the murderous rage on his little monkey's face. He could tell the fairy was furious for some reason.

"I don't know what you're trying to say, little one. All I can hear is squeaking noises," Namjoon said. "It doesn't make sense."

The fairy rolled his eyes before flying out of his pocket, and in a blink of an eye, he changed to his human form. Jungkook sucked in a sharp breath. He didn't know his little monkey could do that.

The human-sized fairy was stunningly gorgeous. Jungkook felt breathless, just staring into the pink depths of his eyes. It almost took a minute for him to realize the fairy was talking.

"First of all, I'm not a monkey," he hissed. "I have a name. It's Mimi. My friends are TaeTae and Yoongles." He pointed at Namjoon. "I didn't know Joon was Koo's friend. I thought he was going to hurt Koo."

Koo? Who is Koo? Is that my nickname?

Namjoon gave him an amused smile. Jungkook grinned too. So the fairy had given him a nickname, and he couldn't believe he was protecting him.

"Thank you," Jungkook said. "Thank you for saving me."

Mimi waved a hand in dismissal. "I didn't want you dying in my home," he said.

His home?

Jungkook cocked an amused brow.

"He is awake," Mimi said to Namjoon. "You said Koo can go home when he opens his eyes. I need to brew him medicine to boost his healing. Your stupid human medicine is too slow," he grouched. "He slept for a night and all day today."

"Ah, I'll go talk to the doctor." Namjoon scratched the back of his head. "I'll be right back," he said before shuffling out of the room.

Mimi turned to glare at Jungkook. "You, stupid, clumsy human. You're noisy, messy and always trouble."

"Sorry," Jungkook squeaked, unexpecting the personal attack.

"Can't believe I have to keep a steady eye on you. How did you even survive all these years? You chop your fingers with kitchen knife, stub your toe at least once a day, run into things, and burn your fingers on the stove. Can you go a day without hurting yourself?"

Jungkook blinked. He didn't know the fairy noticed all these details about him. Warmth rushed to his chest. "I'll be careful," he said. A smile threatened to tug at his lips.

Mimi huffed. "And TaeTae and Yoongles keep saying humans can't be trusted. "How do I explain you can't be trusted with yourself first." He tsked. "Such a kid."

Jungkook pouted. "I'm twenty-eight."

Mimi cocked a brow. "Was that supposed to mean something?"

"Ah...um, nothing?" He scratched his head, wincing one more time.

Mimi's expression changed from fury to concern immediately. "Are you in pain, Koo?" he asked, fussing over him. He touched his face, tilting his head and scrunching his nose. "Koo needs healing soup. It will numb the pain and boost your healing."

Jungkook's heart raced at the proximity, and cheeks flared. Perhaps his entire face turned red, but Mimi seemed so oblivious to everything that was happening to him.

Fortunately, Namjoon returned, and Mimi turned into his pocket-sized form, hiding behind a curtain. They finished the formalities in the next hour and soon were on their way home.

Three days later...

Jungkook should have gotten used to three fairies ruling his home by now. After all, he'd been observing these tiny things for almost a year. However, that didn't make it easy to believe that they were now on friendly terms.

Mimi fussed over him at every chance he got, watching his every move. The herbal brew he concocted was death in liquid form. It was bitter and almost burned his throat, but Mimi was adamant, and Jungkook almost cried while swallowing it.

However, true to Mimi's words, the medicine took effect almost immediately. It numbed his body pain, and he felt so much better. His head was less heavy, and sleep came easier. Everything was fine except for food.

Mimi and his two fairy friends, TaeTae and Yoongles, didn't know how to cook. So Jungkook and Namjoon had to survive on fruits for three days. His tongue craved some spicy ramyeon, but the fairies didn't allow him to leave the bed.

Namjoon tried, but his clumsy hyung almost set the kitchen on fire and was confined to Jungkook's bedroom with a very furious fairy guarding him. He couldn't even put down his feet without the fairy squeaking angrily.

"Yoongles is our warrior. His poison sword can kill you in a heartbeat. So don't mess with us," Mimi warned not so kindly before going out to fetch more fruits.

Thankfully on the third day, Seokjin and Hoseok arrived. Their food crisis was averted after Seokjin proved he wasn't self-destructive and was a capable human. He had to pass Mimi's strict evaluation of the course.

As for Hoseok, he was adopted by the other two fairies after an hour and was dragged to the attic, where he happily agreed to room with them. His hyung was excited than anyone else. As with everyone else, he, too, got a nickname Hobi, which he seemed to love immediately.

Jungkook couldn't be happier. His decision to purchase the cottage turned out to be the best.

When the first snow hit, they all sat in their living room, drinking hot chocolate by the fireplace and playing board games. The fairies were extremely excited and enthusiastic to learn new things. So Seokjin went to the nearest city to fetch more board games just to entertain them.

Jungkook was healing well and removed his bandage. The wound stopped throbbing and had already scabbed, but that didn't mean he was out of Mimi's watch zone. The little monkey still fussed over him.

Together, they decorated their home for Christmas, stringing lights all around the house and setting up a Christmas tree. It was a beautiful experience. One Jungkook wouldn't forget in his lifetime. They bought gifts, more for the fairies.

The little fairies disliked cold and couldn't handle it. So Jungkook brought some snow inside the cottage, putting it in a corner. For the first time, Mimi and his friends were able to play in the snow without freezing their wings and in the safety of warmth his house offered.

His hyungs stayed for New Year, extending their trip just because they didn't want to part ways with their little friends yet. When it was time for them to leave, they promised to come as soon as possible. As for Jungkook, he wasn't lonely anymore. He had someone to take care of and someone to take care of him. Life was wonderful.

Two years later...

Jungkook and Mimi sat in the living room, watching the first snow. It was their first Christmas and Winter without either of their friends. Mimi hadn't left ever since Jungkook moved in here. Jungkook's work was flexible, so he didn't have to travel unless he wanted to.

It all worked out beautifully for them. With time, Jungkook developed even a deeper bond with his little monkey, who no longer took offence over the nickname.

"Mimi," Jungkook called, stroking the wings of the Fae, who was snuggled to his chest. He held a mug of hot chocolate between his small palms, savoring every sip.

"Hmm..."

"What am I to you?" Jungkook asked. Because Mimi wasn't just a friend or housemate anymore in his heart. Somewhere down the years, the human had fallen in love with the fairy.

"You're my human," Mimi answered without hesitation. "Why do you ask?"

Jungkook smiled. "Because I want to be your human forever," he replied. "I want to be what TaeTae is to Yoongles." That got Mimi's attention.

The tiny pixies, as Jungkook learned the difference later, were soulmates. They were in love and bonded for life.

Mimi's eyes were wide as he stared at Jungkook. "Koo wants to be mine forever?" he asked.

Jungkook nodded without hesitation. "If you'll have me," he whispered. "I can't think of a life without you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

Mimi's eyes glistened, and his gaze slid to his lips. He straightened, putting the mug aside. Jungkook did the same. Mimi climbed on his lap, sitting comfortably. "Are you sure?"

"Yes."

The smile that lit Mimi's face was brighter than the led lights that lit their Christmas tree in the corner. "Mimi wants a lifetime with Koo too."

The kiss they shared next was the sweetest—sweet, gentle and warm. Mimi pulled back to rest their foreheads together. "Mimi loves Koo," he whispered.

"I love you too, Mimi."

Outside, the snow covered the ground in a gentle drizzle, and a single star shone brightly on the night of Christmas eve. Perhaps, Jungkook didn't know a lifetime with Mimi meant an eternity because fairies lived for a long time and he had just sealed his fate with that kiss they shared.

The End.

Meet Peter and Angelo. Sorry Lucas is the only cute spider.

Mimi's Spider friends Peter and Angelo are now living in the greenhouse btw 😘
