Part 8: Presenting...

Oh, my dear friends, I hadn't planned to update but seeing how many different people read this story I just couldn't help myself. I hope that it's good. ~403_Forbidden

The next morning, I stayed in bed, staring out the window. The sky was blue, the ice on the roof was beginning to melt, and the snow on the trees just made the landscape look perfect. But the breathtaking scenery wasn't what was on my mind. I was still trying to fit all of the puzzle pieces of yesterday together. Needless to say, I was still very shocked about what had happened.

I was finally able to redirect my blank staring to the calendar on the wall. The picture displayed the Kagamines, as their birthday is in December. I had already bought my gifts for them months ago. Luka had even told me the best hiding spot for the presents because, "Believe me, Rin will be looking." I hadn't really doubted that, mostly because Luka knew Rin very well and even if you didn't, you could guess that she'd be the type from her personality. Man, Christmas is in one week. How'd the time go so fast? I thought. Hold on a second. Christmas is in one week and I'm still not done shopping! I practically jumped out of bed and threw myself together. Luka shouted at me to come back and eat breakfast as I dashed out of the house.

I decided to go to the main mall downtown. My wallet was a little skinny, but I guess I'd figure something out. I definitely had to get something special for Kaito. That was my only thought entering the mall. But what does Kaito really like or what does he really need? Just thinking that thought was painful for me. Ever since middle school, Kaito and I had grown apart. We each had our own friends at school, and although I could respect that, it still seemed like we'd treated each other like perfect strangers at home.

No! I have to try to stay positive. Come on brain, we know Kaito best, now let's go out and find something awesome! ...That lasted all of two seconds. At that moment, I heard someone calling my name through the crowd. "(Y/N)! (Y/N)! Where are you?!" I desperately scanned the holiday mob to find whoever was calling to me, but it was no use. I couldn't see them. Just as I was about to walk away, I felt a hand on my shoulder suddenly. I jumped out of surprise, then turned around to see a green haired girl that I'd never met before. "Hello there, (Y/N). I'm very sorry if I scared you. My name is Gumi, and I'm a friend of Kaito and Luka's. Luka texted me to find you and see if you need any help finding a Christmas present for Kaito."

"Nice to meet you, Gumi. I, well... Yes, I really need help finding a gift for Kaito," I admitted sheepishly. Gumi scrunched up her nose and said, "Just so you know, Luka told me that you also tend to wander off a lot. Since there's a ton of people here today, try not to do too much of that, mmkay?"

I felt my cheeks become hot at that comment. It's not that I wander off, I just... Find a lot of things interesting at the same time! That's what I wanted to shout, but I thought it would be inappropriate considering that Gumi was helping me and we had just met. "Anyway, Kaito has been saying that he wants a certain romance novel. Thankfully for you, I know exactly where it is in the mall's bookstore. Come on, let's go!" With that, Gumi grabbed my hand and dragged me through the crowds of holiday shoppers.

When we got there, the book was right where Gumi said it would be, but it wasn't in my price range. However, Gumi covered the rest of the cost for me. We got hot chocolates together, and had a short conversation about how Gumi knew Kaito.

"We're in the same classes at school. His friends hang out with me, so naturally, we started hanging out, too." She took a deep breath and then fixed her gaze on me. "Luka also tells me that you have a crush on Kaito, but things look kinda hopeless for ya right now." I fell silent and looked down at my hot chocolate cup. "Hey," she put her hand on mine, "things will work out, alright? I promise that you're gonna shock him when he unwraps that present. Just don't tell him that I told ya about it, 'kay?" She flashed a huge grin at me.

"Thanks Gumi, you're really cool," I answered, returning her grin. She had to leave soon after that, so I decided to go home. I wrapped up the present in a shiny blue wrapping and attached a sparkly white bow along with a tag. Whew, that's one less thing to worry about for the holidays. Now I just have to not blow the Christmas choir performance with Mr. Hiroyuki and everything will be perfect.

My apologies if this chapter wasn't worth the wait, I was kind of just writing it as I went along. I just really felt pressured to update for y'all. ANYWAY, I will be coming out with a new fanfic soon for... drumroll please... Mystic Messenger! It's gonna have a yaoi ship and some lemony stuff (but don't worry, I'll make it so you skip it without missing out on storyline if you want to) but I think that for the most part, it's a cool new idea. Be sure and check it out when I publish it if you like a cute love story. As always, thanks for reading, and I think the next chapter will be either the last or second to last, so I'll try to hurry up on that. Thank you! ^.^
