4. Jenna and the First Kiss
Jenna arrives at Tyler's front door at exactly noon. She greets him with a hug, her blonde hair smelling of fruity shampoo. "Hi, I'm Jenna! Josh has told me a lot about you."
Tyler smiles in response, carrying his box of belongings out to her car. He doesn't even bother looking back as they drive away. He's glad he'll never have to see that place again.
"Do you want to grab something for lunch before we start shopping? We could grab something from Panera Bread or Chipotle, if you want," She suggests, Tyler watching the buildings as they drive by.
"Whatever you want," He responds.
"Chipotle."
Tyler nods in agreement, falling silent. Here he was hoping to make a new friend, but he doesn't even know what to say to her. Typical Tyler.
"So, you're from New York, right? Are you from the city?"
"No, I lived by Lake Erie. That's on the opposite end of the state," Tyler explains, grateful that everyone Josh associates with is good at making conversation. (Oh look it's me throwing an aspect of myself in this book even tho I live 2 hours away from Lake Erie but still)
"Oh, gosh. I've never been good with geography and stuff. I dropped out of highschool, actually. It really pissed my mom off, but look where I am now," She chuckles, switching radio stations when a country song started playing.
"How do you like working for Josh?" Tyler asks, wanting to get someone else's opinion of him.
"Oh, I love Josh. He's like a big brother to me. He's the nicest man you will ever meet, I'm telling you. He's a great boss."
Tyler nods, feeling satisfied that he stumbled upon such a great man. "Has he been in a lot of relationships?"
"Not really," Jenna shakes her head. "I've been working for him for five years, he's been in three relationships."
"Really? Why'd they end?" Tyler asks, hoping Jenna doesn't go and tell Josh that they're talking about him. He's just curious.
"Well, the last two ended up saying they didn't love him, they only wanted his money," She pauses to glance at Tyler. "You won't be like them, right? Josh doesn't deserve that again."
"No, of course not. I like Josh a lot."
"Okay, good, because I like you. You're cool."
Tyler grins. He's cool.
"Thanks. So, why did the first one end?"
Jenna hesitates, pulling into the parking lot for Chipotle. "Well, that was Josh's fault. He used to drink a lot. Like, a lot. He doesn't anymore, but he got drunk one night and cheated. That was way in the past, though. And don't tell him I told you, either. He'll be upset, but you deserve to know."
"I won't tell," Tyler promises, following her into Chipotle as he took in what she said. Josh used to be an alcoholic? He wonders why.
They order their meal and eat by the window, talking and watching the cars go by. Tyler is thankful Jenna isn't self-conceited, they spend most of their time talking about Josh. By the time they finish eating, it's one o'clock.
"Oh, gosh! We better go if we want to be done by four!" Jenna exclaims, shoving the rest of her wrap in her mouth. Tyler follows suit, nearly spitting it all out from laughing at the sight of Jenna. Her cheeks are stuffed full of food, she can't even open her mouth to talk.
They return to her car. Jenna doesn't talk until she finishes what's in her mouth, letting out a sigh afterward. "That was fucking good."
Tyler laughs, nodding in agreement. She turns up the radio as they start driving, and Tyler gets the hint that she's run out of things to say. He listens to the music contently, softly humming along. He can't wait to show Josh his voice.
They're at the mall a few minutes later, Tyler nervously lets Jenna lead him through different expensive stores. Why's he nervous? Well, because he's afraid of how Jenna will think of him after seeing him in girls clothes. He's wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt right now. What will she think of him in a skirt? Or a dress?
"Okay, so Josh told me you like wearing girls clothes and I think that's fucking awesome," She speaks up, pulling Tyler into a store before he can even read what it is.
"Really?" He asks in disbelief, gaping at all the clothes before him.
"Yes, really. I love shopping for other people, especially for girls. This will be the highlight of my day, I swear. What type of clothes do you like?"
"What do you mean?"
"Like skinny jeans, crop tops, skirts, dresses, high heels, blouses?" She lists, counting off each item on her fingers.
"I'm not sure," Tyler admits. "Lets just go with all of the above."
"Awesome!" She beams. "Look around and gather some things you like. I'll pick some out for you, too. Don't worry about price, either. I'll tell you what's too much and what isn't."
Tyler nods, anxiously walking off by himself. He's afraid he'll get lost for one, and for two he doesn't want people to look at him weird. Hopefully they'd just think Jenna is his girlfriend and he's helping her shop...
💎👑💎
They don't end up leaving the mall until shortly after four. Jenna says they'd probably make it home before Josh, so it doesn't really matter.
Tyler had spent over a thousand dollars in only three stores, but he has six bags of clothes and two boxes of shoes. Jenna picked out pretty much everything. She had joined Tyler in the dressing room to help him try things on and tell him what looked good and what didn't.
The two talk on the drive to Josh's. His mansion is isolated from the main road, located at the end of a long, windy one. Tyler gasps at the sight, jaw dropping into his lap.
"Woah," He whispers, staring at the house as Jenna drives up to a gate. She swipes some card and the gate opens, allowing them to drive inside.
"It's pretty nice, huh?" She chuckles, parking her car in front of the building. Tyler nods, unable to string together the words to form a sentence.
"You'll get used to it, come on. Josh just texted me. He's waiting."
Tyler gulps. He helps her carry his things inside, timidly following her through the front door. Josh greets them almost instantly, taking the boxes out of Tyler's hands.
"Finally. I was worried Jenna kidnapped you to keep for herself," Josh smiles. He turns and walks away, Jenna and Tyler following behind.
"I could never," Jenna grinned. "You two are made for each other."
Tyler barely pays attention to their conversation, he's too busy gawking at their surroundings. Everything is so gorgeous, Tyler is back to wondering how on earth this is happening to him right now.
Josh leads them up two stories and into a room Tyler guesses is the master bedroom. There's a ginormous bed pushed up against the wall, white sheets and fluffy pillows resting on top. Above the bed hangs a painting, it's of the galaxy. Tyler smiles upon seeing it, knowing it was the painting Josh was hanging up when they were on the phone together.
The three of them set Tyler's things on Josh's bed. Well, technically it's Tyler's bed now, too. He blushes at the thought.
"Thank you, Jenna. I'm sure Tyler had fun."
"I did, thank you."
"Of course," Jenna smiles. "I'll see you guys tomorrow sometime, I'm sure."
"Goodnight, Jenna," Josh says politely, turning towards the bags on his bed.
"Goodnight."
She leaves, so now Tyler is alone with Josh. He's more nervous than he anticipated, his hands sweating profusely. Josh looks to him with a smile.
"Did you see the painting?"
"Yeah, I did. It's beautiful. Where'd you get it?"
"I bought it at an auction," Josh said, both of them observing the object. "I suppose you'd like a tour before we take care of your things?"
Tyler nods, shyly allowing his hand to be taken by Josh. "Thank you, by the way, for letting me go shopping."
"Anything for you."
Tyler's face flushes, following Josh down to the first floor. He's shown around rather quickly, it only takes ten minutes.
He's shown where the kitchen, dining room, living room, formal living room (Tyler didn't even know that was a thing), library, office, bathrooms, and bedrooms were. Josh skipped over a few rooms, claiming they weren't important. He said Tyler could go exploring by himself tomorrow.
They're back in the bedroom again, putting Tyler's things away in a gigantic walk-in closet. Josh's things are on one side, an empty rack on the other. Below the racks are drawers, probably to hold jewelry and things of that sort. Down the middle is a shelf that separates the two sides. Various pairs of shoes are housed there. Tyler's brain is having a hard time wrapping around it all, but he still helps Josh hang his things on the empty rack.
It's still nearly three quarters of the way empty when they're done. Josh assures him there's a lot more where that came from, says pretty soon he'll have more clothes than he'll know what to do with. That doesn't sound like a problem to Tyler.
He follows Josh to the kitchen, taking a seat at the island counter. "So, you had a good day?"
"Yeah," Tyler smiles, thinking about his time spent with Jenna. "Jenna is so nice. I can see why you hired her."
"She's great. You'll like Debby, too. What do you want for dinner?"
Tyler wants to say 'you' as a joke, but Josh would probably take it seriously. Instead, he says he doesn't care. He asks Josh how his day at work was.
"It sucked," Josh says, pulling something out of the freezer. "I couldn't focus because I was too busy thinking about you."
Tyler smiles, muttering an apology. Josh holds up a frozen steak, looking at it in confusion. "I'm not really good at cooking. Usually, Debby does that, but I told her to take the day off. How do you feel about ordering pizza?"
"That sounds great to me," Tyler says, heart beating faster when Josh leans across the counter towards him.
"Gosh, can I kiss you?"
Tyler bobs his head quickly, before he has time to overthink things. The older leans forward, pressing their lips together. Tyler's eyes flutter shut, his hands coming to rest upon Josh's cheeks.
He's smiling like an idiot, his stomach soaring with butterflies. Josh's lips not only feel amazing but taste amazing, like strawberry chapstick. They pull away after a few seconds, both grinning from ear to ear.
"I'll order pizza," Josh states.
Tyler can't seem to get his voice to work, he only nods in response. His heart is still racing when Josh dials the pizza place. Gently, he touches his fingertips to his lips, smile still lingering.
