Chapter 38

Some how, I managed to talk Wren into letting the kids spend a few days with my parents. She has been overwhelmed lately and needs some time to herself to relax, and that's just what she is doing. At least that's what she told me anyway.

We're here," Reese chirps. While Wren was home relaxing, Reese and I decided to head down to the club for a few drinks. It's been a while since we have actually hung out alone.

As we walked in the club, we were immediately greeted by security and lead to the vip section upstairs. As we were seated, a waitress I never seen before approaches us to take our orders. "What can I get for you," she asks giving us both a flirtatious smile.

I can smell the smut radiating off of her. "Rum and coke," I tell her, ignoring her poor attempt to flirt.

"I'll have the same," Reese tells her before she could even ask.

"I'll be right back," she says with a wink, swaying her hips as she walks away.

I shake my head and chuckle. "I'm shocked you didn't jump on that," I joke. "She was pretty much begging for attention."

Reese shakes his head. "She's the town slut, Amber. I wouldn't touch her with your dick," he shoots back.

He got jokes. "Couldn't even if you could. I'm taken," I say proudly, propping my feet up on the table.

"She has you wrapped around her finger," he laughs. "Never thought I would see the day."

Neither did I. I thought I would die a kidless lonely man.

"Now all you have to do is put a ring on it," he adds, just as the waitress enters with our drinks. She places a bowl of pretzels in the center of the table.

"I wouldn't mind putting a ring on it," I smirk. Amber, I think her name is gives me a side ways glance. "She's pregnant and I love her. It's bound to happen."

I have already thought about asking Wren to marry me more than once and the fact that he mentioned it makes the possibility real.

"She likes white gold," he states taking his drink from Amber. "Just thought you should know."

If he thinks I haven't noticed what kind of jewelry she likes to wear, he is more clueless than I thought her was.

Amber hands me my drink and saunters away. "I know what she likes, Reese. Who do you think bought her that necklace she's been wearing lately?"

About a month ago I was walking past the jewelry store and decided to check it out. As soon as I approached one of the showcases, my eyes landed on a white gold necklace with three-diamond stones in it and knew she would love it.

So I bought it for her and gave it to her that night. At first she was mad that I bought her something and chewed me out, but after awhile she finally accepted it and thanked me in more ways than one.

"I know that look. You're thinking about something dirty spill," Reese says, pulling me from my thoughts.

I smile wide and decide to fuck with him. "I don't think I feel comfortable talking about what me and my girlfriend do."

His grin widens and he leans back in his seat. "Are you forgetting she's my best friend?" He asks. "If I really wanted to know what you two do behind those closed doors, I would ask her."

He's right. All he has to do is ask her and she would spill her guts out.

"Besides, I pretty much seen her naked," he states. "Scratch that I have seen her naked multiple times."

My hand tightens around my drink. I don't like where this conversation is headed. "Watch yourself Reese, that's my girl you're talking about," I warn coldly.

I don't care what their friendship was like before me. Bother or not, I will bust him upside his head talking about her like that.

He throws his hands up in surrender, "No need to get all defensive. I was trying to prove a point," he sits his drink down. "What you say about her stays between us. I would never disrespect her like that."

I take a deep breath and try to calm my nerves. When it comes to her, I instantly jump into defense mode.

"Sorry."

"All good. Now let's get some more drinks up here and celebrate you becoming a father."

"Kind of late don't you think?" I chuckle and down the rest of my drink.

He flags down our waitress and smiles. "Better late than never."

Several drinks later and I'm feeling pretty good. I look over at Reese, who is preoccupied, shoving his tongue down a random girls throat. They've been at it for over an hour now and I'm starting to feel like the third wheel.

Pull out my phone and look at the time. It's still early, but something is telling me it's time to go home. I shake away the feeling and decide to call Wren to make sure she is alright.

"Hey baby. It's been awhile." The familiar voice sang over the loud music, sending uncomfortable shivers down my spine. "Oh how I've missed you."

I look over towards the balcony to see, Penelope staring at me. I haven't seen her since I left New York.

"What are you doing here?" I ask coldly. She never comes here.

"Like I said, I missed you. Don't you miss me, baby?" She purrs, taking a seat next to me.

"No," I say harshly, hoping she gets the hint that I don't want her hear. I see Reese out the corner of my eye stop all activity and stare. He's probably wondering what she's doing here too.

She chuckles darkly, "Now you and I both know that's a lie. We use to have so much fun together." She scoots closer. Her breath fanning my neck as she leans in to whisper in my ear. "I use to make you feel so good."

I roll my eyes and ignore her flirtatious advancements. "That's all it ever was, was fun. Nothing more."

She jerks her head back and looks at me in disbelief. Hurt flashes in her eyes, but is quickly replaced by anger. "What does that little bitch have that I don't?" She spats. "She's weak. She not meant for this life."

My blood begins to boil. No one and I mean no one speaks ill of Wren when I'm around. "Watch yourself Penelope, that's my girlfriend you're talking about and the mother of my unborn child."

She gasps and places her hand over her mouth. "She pregnant?" She whispers.

"Very pregnant," Reese chimes in, pushing the girl off his lap.

Penelope turns her deadly gaze to Reese. "This is your fault," she shouts, jumping out of her seat, pointing an accusing finger at him. "If it wasn't for you he would have never met the little whore."

I have had just about enough of her mad mouthing Wren. Who the hell does she think she is?

I slowly stand from my seat and look down at her. "I'm not going to tell you again to watch yourself when talking about my girlfriend. She and her kids means more to me then any fling of the past," I say dangerously.

Reese places his hand on my shoulder and pulls me back. "I think you need to leave," he tells her coldly. "And don't come back."

Her eyes travel from Reese to me. "So that's it?" She asks, taking a step forward. "You're just going to walk away from what we had?"

This girl is demented. It was nothing but casual sex between us. Why is she acting like this?

Reese steps between us, putting much needed space between us. "Leave," he tells her a bit more harshly.

She then turn to walk away, but stops just as she was about to exit the room. "Better run home. I would really hate to see anything happen to her and your baby," she laughs.

My blood runs cold and all I see is red. I take a threatening steps towards her, but Reese pushes me back. "Did you just threaten me?"

She smiles wide. "Not at all."

"If anything happens to them I will kill you."

She shrugs off my threat. "See you soon," she waves, before taking her leave.

"Ignore her, shes just trying to get under your skin," Reese pats my chest. "You and I both know she won't follow through with her threat."

Something deep within me is telling me that it was not an empty threat and all I want to do now is go home to Wren. "I have to go," I tell Reese, pushing past him.

"I'm coming too," Reese shout from behind me. I don't care if he comes or not, all I know is I need to get home now.

Our driver is waiting for us when we make it out of the club and waste little time climbing in.

Reese and I sit quietly as we make the short trip home. I want to call and make sure she's alright, but don't want to seem overbearing.

I rub my hands together nervously. For some reason the car ride home seemed to be taking longer than usual. Something is wrong.

"Call her," Reese's says pulling me from my thoughts. "Something doesn't feel right."

I don't bother to look at him and pull out my phone and call her. After several rings, it goes to voicemail. Maybe she's sleeping?

I hit the call button again and once again I get her voicemail. I let out a shaky breath and hang up the phone. "No answer."

Reese pulls out his phone and sighs when he too gets her voicemail. I am literally stick to my stomach right now.

When we finally pulled up to the house, neither one of us wait for the car to come to a stop and jump out the car, running towards the house.

When I reach for the door handle I freeze. The door is slightly ajar. Reese and I both reach into our waistband and pull out our guns and push the door open.

As we enter the house, Reese turns on the light and my heart sinks to the pit of my stomach. It's trashed. The house is fucking trashed.

"Check upstairs and I'll check down here," Reese says heading towards the living room.

I run up the steps, skipping as many as I can and head towards our room. It was trashed along with the rest of the rooms.

I rush downstairs and am immediately met by Reese. "Anything," I asked panicked.

"Nothing."

My chest tightens and everything blurs. No matter how many breaths I take, it feels like my lungs aren't getting any air. I'm having a panic attack. "I can't fucking breathe."

In seconds, Reese is in front of me. He looks at me with concern and helps me to the couch. He crouches down in front of me. "Concentrate on my voice," he says soothingly. "And breathe, in through your nose and out through your mouth," he coaches me, as I do what he says.

"What are we going to do?" I asks once I was calm enough. My eyes begin to feel with tears.

"I-I don't know," his voice cracks, sending me over the edge. Reese pulls me into a hug and we both begin to sob.

"In here," father's deep voice fills the room.

Reese and I look up to see our father, James and Rj standing in the doorway.

"I text dad right before we got here," Reese informs me. I'm glad he did.

More men begin to show up and my dad begins to bark orders. "And someone find me Penelope," he shouts.

"Alive," Reese adds. "We need her alive."

I snort. They better hope that they find her before I do.
