Chapter 22

Axel Valdez

It was really hard to believe that Katie is leaving this town. We went straight to the May mansion.

We knocked on the door and a young girl opened the door. She let us in the living room and told us to wait for Mr. and Mrs. May.
After sometime they arrived and greeted us. We greeted back.
"Ma'am we heard you are permanently moving out?" Lyn asked as we stood up from our seats. They nodded.
"Yes dear we are." Mrs. May said. And a tear dropped my eyes hearing that Katie will be gone. I noticed that Lyn was choking on her tears so I talked to them on her behalf.
"You see Mrs. and Mr. May my wife really wanted a child but couldn't have any and when she saw Katie and the way she called her mommy really made her happy..and I can't see my wife being sad again like that time." I lied but yet some parts were true.
"We are sorry dear but its the best for Katie if we move to Africa you see there is my daughter and she said she'll take good care of Katie." Mr. May said for the first time. Lyn wiped my tears and showed a weak smile.
"If its for Katie then its fine...but I'll miss Katie very much." She said smiling weakly. Mrs. May came to me and tapped my shoulders.
"Dear don't be sad you can still spend sometime with Katie and you'll all be in touch." She said and Mr. May nodded. I was surprised to hear that and looked at Axel who was smiling happily at me.
"When are you planning to leave, sir?" I asked Mr. May.
"Oh after a month. That means next month as I have some works here to be done." He replied sipping his cup of tea. Axel nodded.
After half an hour we decided to leave the May mansion.
"Then we will take your leave." Lyn and I said bowing to them.
After many talking we decided that we will meet Katie everyday this month before she's gone...but...for only three hours. The time was really short but we agreed to it. At least we can see her.

We met Katie almost everyday and we had so much fun together, wish that this time always stays the same. Then one day everything changed.
"WHAT!" I literary shouted and every eyes was on me now. I apologized to them and went out of the bookstore. It was really embarrassing to shout in a quiet place like this.
I ran to the place where Lyn told me to come and saw a taxi and some people. A girl in a short with a crop top came running towards me crying.
"What happened?" I asked as she hugged me tightly. She was sobbing real hard and was not answering. I tilted her chin towards me to look at her beautiful eyes.
"They her..taking her away.." Lyn said within her sobs. I was shocked to hear this. I grabbed her wrists and dragged her towards the taxi.
Mr and Mrs May were checking if everything was there or not. And Katie she was crying and tightly hugging Lyn as if she is planning to never let go of it. I went towards them.
"Sir why did you bring a sudden change of plans. You said that you were going to leave next month..and there's still two weeks left?" I said trying to look as quiet as ever, there was mixed emotion inside of me.
Anger. Confusion. Sadness.
"We changed the plans because of you." Mr May said.
"Me?" I asked to verify my confusion. He nodded.
"You see dear Katie is really attached to you guys and we fear that..that.." Mrs May started but was hesitant to say what does they fear.
"Tell me ma'am." I said trying to act normal. But inside it felt like I'm gonna burst out any moment.
"We fear that it'll be difficult for Katie to adjust with her new family." Mr May said on behalf of his wife.
"New family!" I heard Lyn saying from the opposite direction who was not talking for decades. Everyone looked at her.
"I said what do you mean by a new family." Lyn said wiping her tears and standing up from Katie's level.
The Mays remained quiet. Lyn moved closer towards them and stood beside me.

"Is someone adopting Katie?" I asked. They nodded.
"What? How could you?" I said trying hard not to yell at them.
"We are too old to take care of a six year old child and we don't even have any children of our own except of my dead son, and my daughter in law was an orphan." Mrs May started. "We love Katie more than anything in the world but for her own good we are doing this...she is young and will probably not remember us few years later and will adjust with her new family in Africa perfectly. But after seeing you and your wife growing attached to our girl we felt that Katie will not adjust with the Ronalds."
I looked at Lyn who was already looking at me with a sad face. She was really happy whenever we spend time with Katie and it was the first time I saw her this disconsulate. She was really attached to Katie. I hold her hand in mine and comforted her.
"Mind if we leave now young man we have a plane to catch." Mr May said holding Katie in his arms and his wife followed behind him.
"NO!! I'M NOT GOING AWAY FROM MOMMY!" Katie shouted within her sobs and looked at us with pleading eyes towards his grandpa. Mr May shocked his head and shoved Katie inside the taxi. Mrs May followed them and got in too.
The car started moving and I could hear Katie's cries. I couldn't feel more helpless.

"MOMMY! DADDY! HELP ME!!!"
I looked beside me and saw Lyn flopped on the hard concrete floor. She was breaking down from inside.
"I'm gonna miss you baby." I heard Lyn saying.
I sat down beside her and wrapped my arms around her to comfort her.
