"I'm so glad he found a sub like you. We were starting to get worried about him. If you need anything please come to me, I've been in this game for forty years."
The words repeated over and over in Eva's head as she stared down at her latte in a daze. The night had been a whirlwind of emotions and she was still trying to get her head around it all.
She had been her clients date a few times in the past, it wasn't her first time pretending to be someone's girlfriend. But, this was different. She didn't expect them to respond to the news in such a way, it almost made her heart melt knowing she was the one who caused the breathtaking smile that lit up Elina's face at the news.
Never had a client's parents offered such kind words or invited her out for family events. Most of the time they saw right through their sons and knew what they were up to.
It startled her even more that his mother knew all about her son's bedroom preferences. She couldn't help but wonder if she had caused this? Childhood trauma? But she shook her head at the atrocious accusation. Ashamed that she even thought such a thing.
The night had been eventful, that was for sure. They didn't ask too many questions about the relationship, which Eva was more than happy about. She didn't want to make up a web of lies that she would more than likely get tangled in if she wasn't careful.
True to his words, they only stayed an hour before Matteo told his parents that Eva had to leave due to important work. After leaving cash for the auction with his father he had led her to the car and drove her home with little said, which was strange - especially for Matteo.
The quietness had made her even more on edge, she dreaded to think about what was going on in his head.
"Would you like anything else?" Eva blinked away the blur from her eyes as she looked up at the young barista who stood with a warm smile. She hadn't realized someone was so close to her.
"Could I have a double chocolate muffin please?" She asked kindly as her stomach grumbled slightly in hunger. Stupidly, she had decided to skip breakfast this morning. She needed out of the house to clear her head. Between Matteo and Adam, she was going to flip.
The young girl smiled before going to collect her order as Eva took a deep breath to try and relax a little. Her body felt stiff as she sat on the rather low couch in the corner of the small cafe, hiding from the world as she got lost in her thoughts.
Adam hadn't bothered texting her back which didn't help her current mood. He had never acted like this towards her. She would admit that she was harsh for asking him to get off her but he was taking it too far.
She scrolled down her contact list, hovering over Michelle's number. She thought for a minute before continuing down the list, she wasn't in the mood for a lecture.
After several minutes she gave up and put her phone in her bag as the barista placed her muffin on the table beside her now lukewarm latte.
A phone call from her boss this morning had proved that Matteo was going through with taking her to his parents for their family barbeque. He had booked her for the day, starting at 2 pm until late. She hadn't expected it and it was another thing that was currently giving her a headache. Eva hoped he would make up an excuse to his parents as to why she couldn't attend but it seemed like he had other plans.
Eva wasn't sure what he was up to but she had a good idea, she wasn't stupid. She knew that he was trying to get her into his bed. It was too obvious, pursuing her the instant his relationship with Samantha failed.
She felt rage stir within her at the thought. He knew she was a taken woman. It annoyed her that he thought so little of her, thought that she would cheat on Adam with a man she barely knew.
Rage seemed to be the common emotion for her when she thought about the infuriating man but she couldn't understand it. She didn't hate him, he had been nothing but pleasant to her. If she didn't include the sexual threats that came from his mouth. She knew he wouldn't act on any of them, he just liked to tease her.
She would shamefully admit, she liked the dirty words that flew so sinfully elegantly from his mouth. It wasn't wrong of her to enjoy his voice, was it?
With a sigh she bit into her muffin, the chocolaty goodness cheering her up a little. She promised herself not to get upset over Andrew but she couldn't remain positive. It was getting her down more than she cared to admit. Despite her sinful thoughts, she did love Adam.
Reaching into her bag she grabbed her mobile, deciding to give him one more chance before she went over once he finished work. She couldn't go another night not knowing where they stood with each other.
Quickly, she wiped the muffin remnants off her mouth before typing the passive-aggressive message that she thought would get his attention. She wasn't in the mood to play games anymore.
Eva had spent hours thinking of Adam when Matteo had dropped her off the night before. He was safe, comfortable, almost boring, but that was what she wanted when they started dating. She knew what kind of man she was willing to fall in love with, and she did, hard. He had been a change from her usual type and Eva sometimes wonders if her sex life would be any better if she didn't go down the safe and comfortable route with men.
She watched his name flash across her screen as her mobile vibrated on the table, the vibrations loud enough to hear over the soft music playing within the cafe. A part of her wanted to ignore him, to show him what it was like, but, she thought that would have just been childish.
"What do you mean you'll come and collect your things?" His voice bellowed from the speaker on her phone before she could say anything. She looked around her, as if others in the cafe could hear his raised voice.
She cleared her throat, lounging back in her chair more so to not draw attention to herself as she tried to remain calm. Her heart ached, not knowing where this was about to go. "Well, I'm not staying with a man who won't answer my calls or texts. So, tell me what time you're home so I can collect my belongings."
Eva didn't want it to be like this, she didn't want to throw so many years away over this, something so small. Despite how much the same issue always comes up during their arguments.
She would though, she was over childish behavior.
Adam was quiet on the other end of the line as Eva tried to keep her emotions at bay. All she wanted to do was talk and he wouldn't even respond to that, what chance did they have?
"I've been busy Eva," he stated calmly as Eva bit her lip. She didn't know what to say and she sure as hell didn't want to have an argument with him whilst she was out in public. She wasn't the type that aired her dirty laundry out for all to see. "Come up tomorrow night, we can talk. I'm busy with work today."
Eva clenched her fists, annoyed at how unaffected he seemed to be by the last few days. Did ignoring her not bother him? Did he think it was fine to behave like that?
"I need to go, love you," he mumbled as he hung up on her.
Instead of feeling better, Eva felt hurt.
Finishing the rest of her muffin she collected her belongings, deciding she had wasted enough of her day in the artificially lit cafe. She needed to take her mind off Adam, and sitting doing nothing sure as hell didn't help her.
Instead of going home she found herself walking in the direction of the local shops. Deciding to get something to wear for the barbeque on Saturday. She didn't think any of her dresses were appropriate for a family affair.
"Excuse me?"
"I bought you a dress for Saturday, Jesus, are you deaf?" He replied again with a slight look of irritation as he held the box out in his hand for Eva to take.
With a trembling hand, Eva reached out to take the present from him, not willing to tell him she had already bought herself one in fear that he would take her gift away. It was rare for her to receive presents, Adam hardly bought her anything. And if he did get her something he'd get her to pick it herself.
"Why?" She questioned, taking the dress out of his hand before walking into the living room with it, leaving Matteo to follow after her.
He shrugged as she turned to look at him, "It's my fault you're in this situation."
She smiled warmly up at him, trying not to dwell on how delicious he looked today in his tailored suit that showed off his body to perfection. She subconsciously made sure she wasn't drooling as she turned back to the box.
Pulling the lid off she gasped in surprise. It was a beautiful crimson red silk material that appeared to stop just above the knee by the length of it. The material looked tight enough to show off every curve but conservative enough that nothing is on show.
"It's beautiful," she breathed out as she examined the expensive material. It was nothing like the cute yellow sundress she had bought that made her look like an innocent 16-year-old girl. It screamed sex appeal.
Matteo placed his hand on her spine, his face near hers as he whispered into her ear, "It'll be hard to keep my hands to myself."
Eva shivered, her lashes fluttering as she felt his breath brush across her cheek. The heat from his body seeping into her back, nearly touching but not quite there. His strong hand a reminder of how quickly he could throw her over his shoulder and bend her to his every will.
Neither of them moved as Matteo kept his closeness, knowing exactly what it did to her.
Eva was having difficulty breathing steadily. Her feelings were everywhere. She wanted to feel the pleasure Matteo would provide for her, but that want was as sinful as his promises.
A gasp of air left her mouth as Matteo turned her to face him, the box dropping to the floor as he pressed her back against the living room wall.
His hand trailed down her cheek as she stared up at him with wide eyes. Her mouth parted in shock as he leaned in.
"What have I told you about that little mouth of yours?" He whispered huskily as Evas' stomach flipped.
