Angelic Capitulation
In a Kingdom littered with mysterious, impenetrable tower – centuries go by without so much as a crack in the foundations of these abandoned fortresses. Until one day... walls burst from the ground, connecting the towers and sealing everything within.
I remember fond childhood in that place. Towers that reflect majesty to the discerning eyes.
Day and night skies, I so enjoyed being near those towers.
I tell the truth. There were times at night. The sky was cloudy, and the tower showed the stars beyond in even greater majesty.
Any wonder I became a singer and teller of tales?
Now, there would be sojourners across that place. Cloaked travelers who would walk undisturbed betwixt the tall obelisks. Only when they came near a same looking person would you see the strange detail.
They would cast their eyes to each other for a brief time, and then each change direction.
Like they had met, conversed, and decided some plan. They walked away with renewed purpose. Off to somewhere else.
On the day that wall rose up, I was there.
A cloaked traveler found me and let me gaze upward into pure feminine beauty.
"Child. I will tell you the truth and give you a choice.
We are of an angelic race.
We have refined ourselves in purity of our slight lineage trace.
We will set off soon in (for you) an incomprehensible pace.
We all travelled 'ere long seeking to make here a better place.
Now we surrender, now we depart.
Let me tell you the sad condition of our heart."
As naturally as a child falls to sitting after an uproarious spin,
We settled her and me to grass. A more sad tale did begin.
"I travelled in secret and disguise over many a life.
Taking shape of any and growing from girl to wife.
Advising sweet companions on avoiding calamitous strife.
I help reach to consensus goal,
Not knowing the subsequent toll.
We broke down the City Kingdom path, destroying the most vile with our whispered wrath.
Now I, more than any, see a new heartsick condition.
In disguise, I overheard a poor girl's petition.
'Please do not make me a servant for this. Leave me some honor. Do not let me be a toy. With each client you bring to me, I lose (like a chipped away stone) any hope of future joy.'
We will lift this place that you have found home.
We will visit the stars again, seek solace, and roam.
They offered that I might go with them, but their entreaty made me fear.
They would find a new battlefield and leave this one unsteered.
Here I am to tell you this tale. So you know that I stayed behind.
They never said it, but I tell you true.
We would have had powerful supporters, all of us. But we lost them by allowing, the tender, to bear unnecessary cost.
The angels capitulated.. us.
