SERENAS POV

4 whitewashed walls surrounded me in this monotonous room.  The faint sound of the tv was playing in the background of my none-existent thoughts. I felt the comforting feeling of my mother's hand resting on mine, but it did nothing to ease my nerves, in all honesty, it made them worse.

My mother isn't affectionate, in fact the last time she was affectionate was when my father left. That was 7 years ago.

Now, 7 years later, here I am in a waiting room. Lingering in the same chair I have been sitting in for the past 4 hours, anxiously awaiting the news from the doctor for what was wrong. However, the discomforting feeling of my mother's fingers tracing mine forced me to cruelly understand how significant these next couple of hours may be.

In all honesty, these next couple of hours may change my future.

Some people may think I am over reacting. They may say 'oh come on serena, you just have a cold! You aren't going to die! Stop being melodramatic!' But that's just another comforting method isn't it? It's exactly what my friends said. 

They don't understand.

Oh...so this is what shocked to deaf feels like huh... ahahahah, I thought it was just a phrase people use, like it's raining cats and dogs out there...
