A Review of Sprinkles @prose-punk
A review by krazydiamond
For a short story, Sprinkles packs a wallop. A decadent exploration of life, death, and what lies in-between, the tales pulls us through a surreal landscape, a broken world inhabited by broken creatures which our two protagonists muddle through.
Darcy and Milo wander a pastel wasteland, unable to interact with the world, chasing elusive memories as they try to grasp reality. It's the small details that truly make this piece shine. The neighborhood, replete with eye smarting colors, peopled with a cast of pseudonymous characters (Mrs. Pancake was my favorite). The atmosphere, with descriptions that dry out your mouth as you read them. You are sitting in 'Satan's pastel Radarange' and can practically feel the heat licking your skin as you wonder why our narrator, Milo, can't. Not to mention the characters themselves, flushed out and fully realized in a handful of pages.
The mystery of Darcy and Milo's situation unravels in a downward spiral, guaranteed to steal your breathe when you reach its core. Heartbreaking and beautiful, it's hard to believe Wattpad suggests reading it will take you fifteen minutes. I promise, it will stay with you far longer.
But don't take my word for it. Drop in yourself and remember to blame the aliens.
