i told you things!
KIA AND ISSAC SAT IN UNCOMFORTABLE silence, only the sound of them breathing was heard. "So... you and Brett, huh?" Issac asked, his voice laced with annoyance. "What about me and Brett?"
"You know what I mean. You were flirting with him yesterday... are you two like a thing or something?" Kia raised an eyebrow at him, shaking her head. "Why would we be dating? He likes someone else, anyways. And why do you care? I can get any guy I want." Issac stayed silent at her question, crossing his arms as he sat in the chair. "I was just curious, that's all."
"No, you're just nosy." Kia stated with irritation, causing Issac to roll his eyes. "See? This is why we can't be friends. We bicker every single time. You always have to start things, don't you?"
"Me? You start things too, Garcia." Issac glared at her, "Name one thing I've started."
"Hm... oh, I don't know. Maybe this whole conversation?"
"You're impossible." he said with a scoff. "And you're annoying. Want me to say more? Because I can."
"I don't, actually." he stated. "Well, maybe you shouldn't talk at all." Kia fired back, glaring at him. "Maybe you shouldn't either."
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
The two sat in silence once again as Kia looked at the ceiling. Isaac slowly got off the bed and walked over to the counter, picking up a picture frame. He glanced at the girl as he sighed, feeling guilty. "Peters?"
"Yes?" she asked in annoyance. "Look... I'm... I'm sorry, okay? I shouldn't have assumed that anything was going on between you and Brett."
"You're actually serious?" she asked, skeptical about his apology. "Yes, I am. Uh... the picture that you saw the other day... that was me and Lee when we were younger."
"Really? Aw, you guys were adorable." Issac turned around, looking at her. "I still am, you know?" he teased, still holding the picture. "Really? I didn't notice."
"Whatever. You're just jealous." Kia raised an eyebrow, staring at the boy. "I'm not jealous. I'm cuter anyways."
"Sure you are. Anyways... that was me and Lee. Our dad's in the military right now but he always calls us just to see how we're doing." Kia's eyes softened as he spoke, glancing at the photo. "That's so sweet. And your mom?" she asked. The boy didn't want to hide it from her, she deserved to know after all. "She left when me and Lee were really young. That's why Aunt Katherine took us in."
"I'm... I'm really sorry to hear that. I shouldn't have asked." she stated, her voice solemn as ever. "It's not your fault. I don't really understand why she left though. That's all I want to ask her." Kia stood up suddenly, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Well, I think she made a mistake. She really missed out on an opportunity of raising you. I mean, look at you now. You have a great family, a brother who cares about you, and great friends. And even though we don't really get along... you're pretty smart, Garcia."
"Did you just compliment me, Peters?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "I think I just did. Oh my gosh, I did! Do you want to talk about something else? We don't have to keep talking about your mom if you want." Kia's smile grew wide as Issac looked at her. The sun was shining from his window, hitting her face. He didn't exactly understand what he was feeling at that moment but he felt something in his stomach.
Something he hadn't felt before.
PARKER AND ISSAC STOOD BY the counter as they watched Kia make some hot chocolate. "That smells really good. Is it ready?" Parker said, leaning over the counter. "Almost. Now... where's the milk and marshmallows?"
As Kia moved in the kitchen, Issac was zoning out. He was still confused about what he had felt earlier, unsure of what it was. "Garcia, can you help me for a minute?" she asked, snapping him out of his thoughts. "What do you need help with?"
"Can you grab the marshmallows?" she asked, pointing to them. The boy stood up from his chair as he walked over to the cupboard. Grabbing the pack of marshmallows, he gave them to her. "Thank you."
"No problem." He went back to his chair, watching as she turned off the stove. Kia poured the hot drink into three cups, mixing it with milk and adding the marshmallows in the middle. "The hot coco is served! Enjoy!" she exclaimed, placing the cups on the counter. Parker's had cooled down, drinking hers. Issac slowly took sips of his hot chocolate as Kia drank hers. "Do you like it?" Kia asked, earning a smile from Parker. "Yes! This is delicious. Thanks, Kia."
"No problem, Parker. And you, Garcia?" Issac simply nodded his head, drinking his hot beverage. "I guess hot chocolate is your thing." he said. "Maybe it is." Kia stated with a smile, continuing to sip her drink. Issac couldn't see it but his family could.
He was falling for Colorado's sweetheart.
