chapter one!
kia vs issac (round 102, partner up!)
THE WALTER FAMILY WAS A VERY boisterous bunch and it wasn't very good for their neighbors. Kia Peters was all ready for school, wearing a simple white blouse, light - washed jeans, and black flats. Brady, one of her friends, would be arriving soon to pick her up. The girl was currently outside, feeding her horse.
Meanwhile, Issac Garcia was playing with his brother and cousins. The kids were yelling and arguing with each other, causing her to sigh. "I'm so happy I'm an only child, Pumpkin. I don't think I'd ever be able to handle all that noise." A loud thud was heard in her backyard, a soccer ball could be seen softly rolling on the ground. The boy in a colorful sweater rolled his eyes as he walked towards the fence dividing them.
"Could I have the ball back?" he asked, annoyance evident in his voice. Kia gently picked up the ball from the ground, holding it. "Hm? Oh, morning, Garcia. What's the magic word?" The boy wore a teasing smile as he spoke. "Abracadabra."
Kia, however, knitted her eyes together. "That's... that's not the word, Garcia. I meant, what do you have to say to get the ball back?" This just made Issac roll his eyes, unphased by her confusion. "I knew that, Peters. Fine... please?"
"See? There you go. Do you want me to kick it or..."
"Why would-" Issac started to say, only to be cut off by Lee. "I'll take it. Hi, Kia." the boy said with a wave. "Good morning, Lee. Here." She handed him the ball with a warm smile which Issac had the unfortunate chance of seeing. "Thank you. Bye, Kia!"
"No problem, Lee! See you at school, Garcia." With that, she went back to feeding her horse, unaware of Issac scoffing. "Unfortunately, Peters." As the Walter boys (and Parker) went back inside, Issac just hoped he would have a better day. His morning was already ruined when he was forced to be in the presence of Kia. It was like as if the universe hated him, making him be closer to her every time he wasn't even planning on it. Maybe the universe would spare him for once.
CLASS AFTER CLASS, ISSAC WISHED he wasn't so smart. He had almost every single class with Kia, much to his dismay. Her hand would be raised, she would hum the same old song next to him, and she would always come on top, just like him. He walked into his last period for the day which was Chemistry, sitting next to a random classmate he had been assigned to sit with.
And who was in the same period? Kia Peters.
"Good afternoon, class. You will be assigned a project for the quarter. Here are your partners." The class was filled with groans and protests, only to be silenced by the teacher. Name after name, Issac started to get bored. A group project? He could just work on it alone, according to him. After all, it's not like he really knew anyone that well. "And... Issac, you will be with Kia. Kia, honey, raise your hand, please?"
Kia raised her hand, only for Issac to stare in confusion. "I'm sorry, Miss... what?" The older woman sighed as she looked at him. "You will be working with Kia, Issac. Maybe try and pay attention in my class." A few students laughed at that, causing his ears to flush in embarrassment.
Oh, how the universe loved him.
Maya Speaks 💫:
This chapter was so fun to write lowkey ☺️ plus, I didn't really like how there was a lot going on in the original chapter so I fixed it!
How do you guys feel about it? Do you like the change? Do you wish I could've added something? Please let me know!
Also I wanted to fix Kia's character a bit so yes, she still argues with Issac at times but she doesn't overdo it and it makes sense since they're rivals (fighting for the same goal such as grades)
But I'll see you guys in the next chapter! Bye my lovelies 🫶🏾
