1. Getaway
The woman behind the reception desk at the hotel had seen all sorts of customers in her thirty-three years working there. However, the seven woman that stood before her right now were certainly something she had never seen before. They all looked to be in their mid-twenties and were wearing smiles as vibrant as the outfits they had on. Each of them had wheeled in a luggage bag that looked new, acting like they were novice travelers as they all crowded around a map of the area that they had snagged off a rack near the door. None of that was out of the ordinary to her. She was used to seeing young women and men taking trips together before. What was surprising to her was that they each had a stuffed animal tucked under their arms, clutching it close to them as if they were their child.
"Excuse me ladies," said the receptionist, clearing her throat and trying to hide her confusion behind a well-rehearsed smile, "Are you checking in?"
"Ah, yes!" said an auburn brown-haired woman as she broke away from the group and scuttled over to the counter. The receptionist noticed that the woman had left her luggage behind but not her stuffed animal. Instead, she still had the bright pink bunny tucked underneath an arm.
"What's the reservation under?" asked the receptionist, turning to look at her computer monitor to try to bring up their information.
"Charmaine," she said to the receptionist's surprise. She recognized the name Charmaine. That family was richer than rich. They owned twelve companies internationally that specialized in high-end fashion. As it was, she knew for a fact that she was wearing a Charmaine original that she had just bought from a discount store.
'Maybe this woman isn't even from the same Charmaine family,' thought the receptionist as she tried to fight the blush coming to her cheeks as she typed the name into the computer.
The receptionist tried to keep the shock from her face when she saw that this woman before her was indeed a Charmaine from that same family. Lorelei Charmaine was the youngest daughter of the billionaires at just twenty-five-years old. If the receptionist remembered the tabloid article correctly, Lorelei was one of the most sought-after bachelorettes of the decade. She had all the handsomest bachelors at her disposable, all seeming to want her heart and a merger that was bound to make them set for life. The receptionist chided herself for not recognizing Lorelei or the stuffy she carried around. After all, that pink bunny stuffy was one of the reasons the gossip magazines claimed she wasn't married yet; that her stuffy was chasing all the bachelors away because they all thought she was too immature still.
Lorelei knew that the receptionist recognized her, a kind smile coming across her face as she watched the receptionist tried to get out the signature pad in a composed fashion. Lorelei signed the pad before the receptionist took it back to exchange it for a room key.
"Your suite is upstairs. You can take the elevator and I'll call a bellboy for your luggage."
"Oh, that's alright. We can take our luggage upstairs ourselves. We don't have that much."
"THEY HAVE STREET TACOS HERE!" came a squeal from behind Lorelei just as she grabbed the key. Chuckling, Lorelei turned around to see that Talulla was practically doing a happy dance with her pale blue horse stuffy at the news.
Lorelei's life was a crazy one indeed, being born into the lap of luxury. She was thankful to her six friends for keeping her grounded. It helped that she had become friends with them at a young age when she had been allowed to attend public school still. Being little when they first met, they developed a close bond that wasn't dependent on the money her family had. Due to becoming close friends when they were little, the bond just strengthened as they got older. Her friends still treated her as the Lorelei they always knew and not the Lorelei with tons of money. Lorelei just wished the rest of the world would treat her the same way. The six of them had proposed this trip with Lorelei to an out of the way part of the world where they thought she could relax and be herself; where she might be able to go unrecognized for a while. Unfortunately, that was already proving to be short lived.
"Lets go up to our room first and get settled before we go out and get street tacos," said Lorelei.
Allegra came over to Lorelei, dragging Lorelei's luggage behind her with her own while successfully managing to keep her heart-shaped stuffy tucked under an arm. Lorelei quickly thanked her before taking her own luggage and making her way towards the elevator. The seven of them all managed to squeeze shoulder-to-shoulder inside it, looking at their warped reflections in the silver walls as the doors closed and they slowly started their ascent.
"You already got recognized at the front desk just now, didn't you?" asked Iris who was currently leaning up against one of the matching silver railings in the compact elevator; her brown potato shaped stuffy hugged close to her.
"Yes," said Lorelei, quickly following it up with, "It's fine though." She didn't want her friends to think their vacation was ruined.
"Well, if anyone tries to do anything slick while we're on vacation, I am..."
"A black belt," finished Lorelei as she looked from Iris to Enya who was wearing a determined face while holding up her yellow dog stuffy.
"Don't you ever forget it!" said Enya. "Chimmy saw how fierce I was during my last practice. I kicked some real tush!"
"None of us doubt your fierceness, Enya" assured Lorelei as the elevator arrived at their floor.
Stepping out of the elevator, they trailed down along the moss green carpeted hallway towards their suite. Lorelei - who was walking in the lead - stopped at the door to their suite, opening the door and letting them in.
Even though the room was a suite, it wasn't all that big. After all, they had purposefully not chosen the best hotel in the area so Lorelei could hopefully not be recognized. Three queen sized beds lined the wall off to the immediate right; a flat screen television off to the left. Underneath the television was a dresser and a small mini fridge. Directly ahead of them were large floor-to-ceiling windows that were slightly shuttered; the shutters dancing in the breeze from the in-room air conditioner. Lorelei stood off to the side by the bathroom as all her best friends piled into the room with their belongings.
"The views are spectacular," said Joelle as she pulled back one of the fluttering blinds, squinting her eyes as the mid-afternoon sun greeted her over the tops of the buildings while keeping her blue koala stuffy close to her chest. Somewhere in the distance came the sound of a car alarm as it went off.
Zelda and her white alpaca stuffy came to lean over Joelle's shoulder to take in the view for herself, letting out a sigh of approval at the sight that laid before her.
"I can just smell the adventure already," commented Zelda.
"And what does adventure smell like?" asked Joelle, turning her head slightly to cock an interested brow.
"Currently mothballs," said Zelda after she took a sniff of the air.
"Hate to break it to you but that's just this room," said Iris as she hefted her rollaway luggage onto one of the beds, placing her stuffy down beside it.
Lorelei shut the door to the room before walking over to Zelda and Joelle who still stood beside the window. She took in the view from their suite too, smiling at the fact that she might get to experience a normal life before having to marry someone for the sake of her parent's company.
"Come on you two. Lets unpack and then go find those street tacos Tallula is so excited about," said Lorelei. "Daylight is burning."
"You're right," said Zelda as she turned from the window to look at the three beds. "So, what are the sleeping arrangements going to be?"
"What they normally are. Duh!" said Allegra as she rolled her eyes, putting her stuffy on top of her luggage before making her way towards one of the beds. "Help me Enya!"
Enya nodded as she put Chimmy on top of her luggage by the wall before helping to rearrange the furniture in the room so that all three of the beds were squished together.
"Better," said Allegra with a smile as she plopped down onto the bed; splaying her arms and legs out as her eyes tracked across the white ceiling.
Lorelei agreed with Allegra's statement. Whenever they slept over at each other's place, they rearranged the furniture so they slept close together. It made them all feel more like a family that way. Lorelei felt that these girls were the six sisters she had always dreamed of having in her life.
"Come on. Daylight is dwindling. Lets go have some fun!" said Talulla who was already by the door with the map and her stuffy.
Nodding, each of them made sure to leave the room with their purses and their stuffys before Lorelei locked the door of the room behind them, leaving to go see what adventures this vacation would bring.

AN: This story has been churning in my mind for a long while, and I decided that - since it was a new year - I'd finally post the first chapter.
That being said, I thought that I would provide you with a guide for all the woman and their corresponding BT21 stuffys.
It goes as follows:
Lorelei - Cooky
Allegra - Tata
Enya - Chimmy
Talulla - Mang
Zelda - RJ
Joelle - Koya
Iris - Shooky
I can't wait to hear your thoughts and stay tuned for the next chapter! (I may have half of it already written. Just saying. 😂🙈)
