Dialogue time
Today, Ms. P started teaching us how to write dialogue. There wasn't much instruction, we just picked 3 pieces of paper from a little basket and it matched up with (A) 2 people conversating, (B) plot, and (C) the setting. What I picked was (A) a presidential candidate (who I named Mr. Stevenson) and a voter (Johnson), (B) making small talk to avoid a big issue, and (C) while attending an important meeting. We were partnered up and had to write, at minimum, six lines of dialogue. My partner and I decided that the big issue would be that Mr. Stevenson was caught cheating on his wife with a sex worker. This is the dialogue:
"Good afternoon, Mr. Stevenson. How's your day going?" Johnson said.
"It's going good, and you?" Mr. Stevenson replied.
"Good as it can get. Any traffic on the way here?"
"Surprisingly, none."
"How's the wife? Wait, nevermind- How're the kids?"
Mr. Stevenson hesitates before responding, "They're doing fine. How are the campaign funds?"
"There's been a sudden decrease after the incident."
"Oh. How much has it dropped by?"
"Around 63% of your funding is gone." Johnson deadpan.
"Oh."
