The Moral Dilemma
"Stop right there evil doer!"
"Oh good grief, name calling now are you? So scary!" They roll their eyes at them. "Those people really are cruel aren't they? Sending my own brother to kill me? Have they no shame?"
"Stop Nyx!" Kaleb shouted, raising the gun higher.
"Oh come on. I thought you were smarter than this. But you are a tool, just like the rest of them. A mindless little pawn." Nyx began to stand up, cleaning off their outfit.
"Don't move. It will be more painful if you move, I promise you." Nyx rolled their eyes, but stopped moving.
"And you call me the villain. I don't even have a secret hideout. But look at you, attacking a defenseless sibling."
"Stop playing mind games Nyx!" Kaleb carefully loaded the bullets into the gun, knowing fully well a single bullet would cause unspeakable pain before death.
"What mind games?" Nyx batted their eyelashes, innocently.
"Don't play innocent with me! You killed thousands."
Nyx scoffed. "So that's their excuse. I killed thousands. So kill me. Do tell me, how did I kill these thousands?" Nyx said, venom creeping into their tone. Kaleb fiddled with the safety with trembling fingers.
"They said you killed the people in Garavich, all of them, the whole city, with a bomb that decimated everything. You killed children, families, pets, the elderly," Kaleb took in a shaking breath. "You know, I never really believed that you were the monster everyone said you were on new stations and in gossip. Back when we were kids, you wouldn't hurt a fly, let alone hurt that many people." Kaleb stared at Nyx, hoping for a shade of humanity to reappear. Instead, Nyx laughed harshly.
"So that's what they say? That I murdered those people? Better than saying they were killed by the government, for refusing to kill or send away their family members because they didn't conform to society!" Nyx looked at Kaleb's shocked face. "That's right. People like me? We're supposed to be killed. Or be taken to a place to be 'tested' on. So, when I knew who I was, I couldn't let them do that to me. I wasn't about to become their pawn."
"You're lying," Kaleb said, shaking his head, not wanting to believe them. "You're lying!"
"So they didn't tell you? I'm not surprised. Why bother telling you the truth, when it's so much easier to manipulate you to do their bidding through moral code. 'It's for the good of all, to protect people from your sister'," Nyx mimicked, going sour at the incorrect gender. "They teach you all these lies when you're young, but people like you, they still swallow them. You became their mindless soldier, and you didn't even realize it."
"I don't believe you."
"No. You wouldn't. Now, I am sorry about this." And suddenly, Kaleb blacked out, hit by a tree branch.
