Andromeda & WX-78 (Don't Starve)

It had been weeks since the girl had joined the group, she was brave and strong. She wasn't much of a burden or trouble, despite her habit of attacking when startled. Other than that, she was helpful, especially when it came to exploring. The others didn't travel with her since they could easily surprise her when going along, so guess who was stuck with the deed? WX-78, he was immune to most of her attacks unless they were physical. Far more than he would often like he was paired with her, and he despised that. Today was another day where they were looking around the island they were trapped in.

"Beefalo!!" A voice rang out, snapping WX out of his thoughts. No sooner than he looked up he saw the girl jump into the trees to evade the creature, then he saw the beast stare at him.

"NOT AGAIN, I PRESUMED YOU PROVOKED IT." He muttered, too angry to have the sense to run away.

"It's looking at you!!" She yelled, the thing ran to WX as she chased it through the trees. She jumped onto it and pulled out her searing red hot knife, ending its life before it took five steps. She flung through the air and landed hard on the ground.

"AT LEAST YOU WERE SMART ENOUGH TO DO THAT, FLESHLING." WX looked down at the body of the beefalo, he know one of them had to clean it. And he didn't fancy for getting his gears rusted with blood again. "YOU'RE CLEANING THE BODY, YOU HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE."

"Alright, I think it broke something..." Andromeda got up, the furry cloak she wore kept her safe from the fall. "Aw, my amulet!" In dismay she held up her crashed stone that hung around her neck.

"BOO-HOO." WX sarcastically replied while nudging the body. Andromeda didn't mind the automation's cruel comments and rude replies, she felt that there was some good inside.

"Stop being a bummer, take this and cut off the head." She handed WX a sharp piece of flint tied to a small hunk of wood. He stared at her in disbelief.

"WHAT?"

"Come on, this thing is big, I'm not going to do it all alone." She proceeded to the beast's chest and pulled out her hot knife to start dissecting it.

"NO." He spat. "I AM NOT CHOPPING OFF THE HEAD."

"Come on you hunk of metal, how are you better then fleshing if you refuse to do that simple small thing I can do with no problem?" She smirked a little smugly as the robot twitched.

"CAN I AT LEAST HAVE AN AXE TO DO THE DEED?" She shook her head. "WHY NOT?"

"We risk you accidentally chopping off more edible meat if you don't do it precisely with a knife." Already she was removing organs that couldn't be eaten, not minding her entire forearms being covered in blood.

"I REFUSE TO." WX protested, but she didn't mind, darkness would soon come and she refused to do his work.

"All you have to do is that, nothing else, why are you so upset?" She tilted her head and smiled like a child, WX had to cave in, she wasn't going to do all the work. "That's my pal!"

"SHUT UP, IGNORANT FLESHLING." WX growled when he finally started. They didn't speak after that, soon both finished and darkness started to fall.

"We won't be able to get to camp in time, I suggest we start a fire." She held a bundle of sticks she had collected, soon a small dart of water hit her cheek. "What?" She looked up and saw the clouds forming and turning dark.

"WARNING: PRECIPITATION." WX said aloud. "WARNING, NIGHT APPROACHING."

"Well..." She looked at a hill nearby. "I guess we'll have to camp out in a cave." She ran off with WX close behind, refusing to be trapped in the rain. She walked into a cave which was nearly pitch black.

"START A FIRE, NOW!" She sat down and was using the flint against some stone.

"What do you think I'm doing!?" She saw that the stones sparked, but don't catching the flames. "Come on..."

"HURRY UP!!" WX screamed, suddenly both felt a sharp pain, it was pitch black.

"We're not going to die..." She hissed under her breath, then an idea shot into her mind, she heard something slash and WX shout in pain. She was going to be next if she didn't hurry up, she pulled out her knife that had a red glow, it was just enough to protect her from darkness.

"Thank goodness for my flame..." She laid the knife into the wood, lighting it. It burned brightly and she enjoyed the warm presence she had. She forgot about everything for a moment, the current terror she had faded. She snapped into reality right afterwards through.

"WX!?" Andromeda looked at her fallen friend, she sighed in relief that he was there, darkness didn't take him away. She went to his side and saw the scratches and dents by darkness, it might have affected his internal workings though.

"Hey buddy, are you okay?" She shook him a little, he didn't respond. She knew something was wrong, he hated being called anything related to a friend. She was good at engineering, sure she was far behind his world since she was native tho this one, but just maybe she could help.

She opened up his chest compartment, there was something that resembled a heart and was beating. It didn't seem harmed, thank the Ancients. Everything seemed in place, which relived her, he was probably just knocked out. Then she noticed something odd, it was rusty and was just behind the heart, it looked like the shape of a heart. She dusted off the item with her hands and took a closer look and saw that many wires connected to it had rusted away.

"Is this the empathy module he says that doesn't respond..?" She looked at it closer, it was white and was broken. It needs wires and some gears. She concluded. She took a torch and walked off into the deep depths of the cave, she could find some there.

It was morning, the sun rose and entered the cave the fire from the night earlier had faded and was just ashes now. Footsteps let into the deep depths of the cave and far out onto the island. The girl has returned from the base and explained the situation, so the others could calm down. It wasn't the first time, it just concerned them that it was raining. Again, she assured them that they had found a cave for shelter. While she was there, she took some extra gears, just in case. She then went to where she lived before, which wasn't really that far, she tore some wires from a project she had worked on for years.

That didn't matter, it could be repaired easily. WX on the other hand, she wasn't risking it. She ran back to the cave as fast her feet could take her, she saw that he didn't wake up yet. She walked over and twisted the module in place tightly, also connecting lose and new wires. She felt her fingers run along something, she clicked it, a button. She hear the gears creak back to life and saw her friend life his head.

The first thing WX saw was Andromeda in his face, she gave home some space and closed his chest. He felt... different, he couldn't explain how, he just did. He sat up, slowly rising to his feet. Andromeda dwarfed him, so she was still on her knees to make sure he was alright. He was shaking a little at first, but soon was able to stand and walk again. He saw it was day, nothing had changed, except him.

"Thank you." He said at last, it was still robotic, was a little monotone, but it felt more human than he had ever felt before. More alive.

"For what?" She asked, doing her signature head tilt. She smiled a bit dumbly, but it was just for teasing him. "All I did was start a fire."

"For saving me, you could've just let the darkness take me and kept the light for yourself." He knew that it was a thing she'd never do, but thanked her anyways.

"You're welcome then, I guess?" She returned her head to the normal position. "Lets get going, the others were worried but I told them what happened."

He smiled, he hadn't felt this way ever. It was wonderful, he couldn't tell why he felt this way, but he didn't question it. He wondered how the others would react to him this way. He guessed it was a turn for the better. In the Connor of his vision there was a small message, he ignored it. But it said...
