Chapter 10: Dates to the Dance
Levi's POV
I left the science classroom, feeling the stares from her club members after I asked her out to the dance. I... I shouldn't have asked her out right then and there! She just broke up with her boyfriend... was she being nice? Just being a friend? Or is she quickly moving on... ugh, why do I have this heavy feeling in my heart?
I walked down the halls, dwelling in the river of guilt and embarrassment. Erwin popped out of nowhere, like a ghost he is, and he saw exactly where I came from. "Science classroom, right? Let me guess... Hanji."
"Y-Yeah... she's going back to science club. Soon, she'll go back to student council meetings."
Erwin chuckles softly, "What did you do, you wizard?"
"I'm not a wizard. I just talked to her. She came back on her own. No magic involved, whatsoever."
"Wizard..." Erwin mumbles under his breath. "Since we're on the topic of Hanji, can I ask you something about her before I go over to her?" Is he going to ask her out to the dance? No, that can't be right. Hanji didn't tell anyone about Moblit. Well, not to my knowledge... "Do you think I can ask her for tips to ask out Marie? For the school dance, I mean."
"I... I think that's alright, Erwin."
"Speaking of which, are you going to the dance?"
"Y... Yes..." I murmur under my breath, "I am..."
"Huh. Interesting. Usually, you don't like dances. Did you have a date with someone or...?"
"A date. Although, I feel a bit guilty. Is that... normal?"
Erwin looks up to the ceiling for a few seconds before getting his answer back to me. "Why would you feel guilty? That's usually the complete opposite feeling you would get from asking someone out to the school dance. Why do you feel guilty?"
"Let's... let's say that I think the person I'm going... might've gone with me because they are just being a nice person. And I think they still like someone else... what should I do?"
"Uh... I'm not a love guru, Levi. But... let me say this, what makes you think they only did it to be a nice person?"
"Because I don't have a large pool of friends like you. I feel like people would do something nice just because I don't have friends. Maybe to take pity on me. Should I feel happy about asking her to the dance?"
Erwin smiles softly, nodding his head. "Yes, you should be happy. Was she laughing at you?"
"Not really..."
"Did she say anything about not going to the dance?"
"No."
"Then yes, you should be happy." He chuckles as he walks past me. "Now you need to figure out what to wear to the dance. And I wonder who your date is... it's not like you're friends with every girl at the school..." He walks off towards the science classroom, mumbling to himself. One thing that caught my mind was the fact that I had to wear something nice to the dance.
All the fancy clothes I have are things I would have to wear for formal parties as some sort of decor. I would be immediately outed out as some rich kid. Maybe later, I should ask Hanji to go to the mall together... that way, we can pick out outfits- ugh, why does that sound like we're a couple? Going to the mall together?! That's what they call a date! Well... I guess taking her to the dance is something a couple would do...
I know Erwin said I should be happy... but it feels like I'm pushing Hanji too quickly to move on from Moblit... maybe... maybe I should stop overthinking this... Hanji's going to be my date to the dance...
I can think of how much embarrassment I'm going to get... maybe Hanji as well.
