12. Tea For Two, Three, Four...?

"I feel so bad, so terrible."

Sabrina's suspension had only lasted an hour when there was a knock on the door. Paulina, still dressed in uniform, let herself in and immediately began confessing her sins.

"I told Hans, who must have told Laurie, who, you know, slapped you in the face." Paulina was hysterical, tears streaming down her face, meanwhile Sabrina made her way into the kitchen and started making them tea.

"But I only told Hans when I was absolutely sure of it. You see, there is a rumor that Rahman Chopra saw you guys making out on some kind of field trip to some planetarium."

"Plantation." Sabrina corrected. "Green or black?" She asked, offering Paulina her cup of hot water.

"Black please."

The girls made their way into the living room, no one was at home yet, Sabirna's brother still at school and her mother still at work.

"So it's true then, you and Mick are a thing?"

"I wouldn't call it a thing." Sabrina frowned. "We've kissed, yes and two years ago we had a moment in the auditorium, however, it was a one time thing."

"Right." Paulina said, stirring her tea. "So the other day when I caught you two red handed, you call that a one time thing too?"

"You saw that?" Sabrina said, heat rising to her face.

"More or less heard it, yes."

They laugh.

"Do you like him?"

Sabrina gaze wandered across the room as she thought about it. Mick wasn't her type. No. But something about him did make her skin crawl, in a good way.

"I don't want to talk about that right now." She muttered. The encounter with Laurie Maxwell had changed the situation completely. " I just know that there is something about me that seems to bother everybody except for Mick."

"What do you mean?" Paulina said, tilting her head curiously.

"I dunno." She shrugged. "As if I can easily scare away everyone else but not him, not Mick."

"Interesting." Said Paulina.

"Interesting." Repeated Sabrina, imitating her friend. They smiled.

A knock on the door interrupted. Klaus and Amar were at the door.

"Klaus, Amar, what are you guys doing here?" Sabrina said, shifting her gaze between the two. Paulina gave them a friendly wave from behind her shoulder.

"Tell her." Said Klaus, shuffling Amar in front of him.

"Okay, okay." Amar fought back.

"Tell me what?"

Amar lowered his head and mumbled something inaudible.

"Louder!" Klaus demanded.

Amar balled up his fist but relaxed as he exhaled. "I need your help." He said calmly.

"My help?" Sabrina frowned. "With what?"

"With the play, of course." Paulina stretched her hand past Sabrina and pulled Amar into the house.

"Thank me later." Klaus said, also entering the house without an invitation.

"It's perfect timing since I'm also here, this way we can all practice together."

Whilst an eighth of the drama club gathered in her living room, Sabrina was conflicted whether she should make more tea or not.

Once the tea was served, Amar pulled out a wrinkled script from his bag and began to read. By now Paulina already knew her lines inside out and therefore sat across from him empty handed. Sabrina and Klaus watched from afar, like directors, coordinating their actors in a movie scene.

"Oh fairest love." Amar said, his voice cracking.

Klaus put a hand to his face in disappointment. "The line is, What is your name fair lady? If you forget it just read the paper right under your nose."

"Okay man, I'm fucking trying." Amar said angrily. Even Sabrina thought Klaus was a little too harsh. The drama club must really have reached a point of desperation now that qualifying is less than a month away.

"Try again Amar, read slower and with more meaning this time" Sabrina directed. "Look at Paulina when you read the lines, as if she really is the love of your life awakened from a deep slumber." Amar nodded his head and began reading again, this time transforming his voice into a more baritone sound, capturing the essence of the script in a way he had never done before.

"What is your name fair lady?"

"Aurora, like the lights that shine in the north."

"Aurora, your lips drew me to awaken you from your slumber, they were meant to be kissed."

"Good." Klaus nodded enthusiastically, interrupting the two.

Paulina cleared her throat, picking up where they left off. "Only true love's kiss could bring me back from the depths of this curse. You are my love and I am yours, we shall be together forever."

"We shall be together forever, fairest love. No curse shall ever strike you again, for I will protect you from all the wickedness of this world, all of it I tell you."

"And now kiss." Sabrina directed, nodding agreeingly when Amar looked to her for confirmation. The two leaned in and pecked each other's lips gently, barely grazing their skin. It was beautiful, Sabrina thought. Although she wanted nothing more than to have the lead role as Aurora, directing this scene had also brought her a sense of fulfillment. They went over the scene four more times, each time better than the other.

"Great job guys." Klaus said, clapping his hands "Now let's take it to the drama club, I'm sure we can sneak you in somehow." He said, referring to Sabrina, but just then the doorbell interrupted.

"I swear to god, if that is Mr Schultze..." Sabrina went to open the door.

"Who is it?" Paulina said, appearing behind Sabrina as she stood frozen. "Mick?" She frowned. Soon both Klaus and Amar appeared, the curiosity getting the best of them. Mick looked slightly taken back, not expecting the party at the door. He had his hand on little Memphis shoulder, Memphis who was still dressed in soccer garments.

"I forgot." Sabrina said, catching her breath. Angrily twisting out of Mick's grip, Memphis made his way into the house, pushing past the group of strangers and stomped his way up the stairs. Paulina, Klaus and Amar understood that it was time for them to go, leaving Sabrina at the door, with Mick on the front porch.

"I had practice when I saw him in the stands, just waiting. I decided to give him a ride home once I understood what was going on."

"Shit." Sabrina cursed, a terrible sense of gulting developing in her stomach.

"I'm sure he'll understand, with the suspension and everything you must have had a really off day."

Sabrina really didn't want any more pity from Mick, she thought. However, pushing him away with her nasty words wouldn't make her feel any better either.

"Thank you." She said, stepping forward in order to embrace him. The short hug had been so unexpected in that moment that Mick had forgotten to hug her back. Nevertheless Sabrina didn't mind, all she wanted was to get to Memphis and apologize for being a terrible sister. On her way to shut the door, Mick stops her by calling her name, her full name not Seb.

"Yes?" She said, batting her eyelashes.

"I still want to finish the project with you, not Thomas Rudiger."

"You do?"

"If that's okay with you?"

"I guess."

"Great, my place, Saturday?"

"Your place?"

Mick smiled at her astonishment. "I'll bring the royal burger. Nuggets, right?"

"You remember?" She spoke shyly.

"How could I forget?" He said, again, smiling in that foolish way that she told herself that she despised, but secretly loved.

"It's a date then."

"I hope so." He winked.

She waited for his car to leave her driveway before shutting the door.

Upstairs Memphis lay tucked in his bed, playing a game on his phone. Entering his room Sabrina's gaze wandered to his soccer gear thrown in every direction across the floor. Memphis lay hidden underneath the covers, the sound from the game exposing his hiding place. Sabrina lay down beside him, deciding not to pull him from underneath the covers. There was silence, the sound from the game had stopped.

He pokes at her from inside his hiding place. His voice is small. "You forgot about me."

"I did." She sighed.

"I hate you."

"I hate me to."

He appeared from underneath the covers, a curious expression on his face, almost smiling. They find each other's gaze. Sabrina is also almost smiling.

"I let you hauge the bathroom all the time, but the one time I do it you..."

"I told you I forgot." Sabrina said, wrestling him across the mattress. She plants a thousand kisses on his cheeks, his forehead and his shoulders."

"Okay, okay. I forgive you." He surrenders. They lay on their backs, gazing up at the sealing. Memphis has got stars up there, stars that glow in the night.

"Good thing that your boyfriend came and picked me up."

"Mick is not my boyfriend." She said, poking his chest. "Just my study buddy."

"That's not what he told me."

Sabrina sits up in bed. "Memphis." She said, demanding answers for the devious look on his face. "Tell me."

"I told him, a girl with that kind of hair sprouting out of her head surely has enough problems."

"Memphis!" Sabrina gasped, threatening to strike him with a pillow. He protects himself by pulling the covers up to his nose. "I'll tell you what he said if you let me tell Mama that you got suspended from school for hitting a girl!"

"Deal." She said reluctantly. The devil himself was her brother.

"Well, he didn't exactly say that you were his girlfriend, but he did say something about a girl, someone named Laurie."

"And do I look like a Laurie to you?" She said angrily, lowering her pillow and rising from the bed. "We better get started on dinner before mom gets home from the hospital."

"Dinner! Yes, yes, that's what he said. He asked if you were allergic to anything and I said any human food since you only ate children."

"Great." Sabrina sighed, but on the inside she was smothering her laughter.

"He then suggested Royal Burger, saying no human should be eating their food anyway. I am assuming that someone that can look past your lack of humanity must really like you."

Sabrina had nothing to come with, her vocabulary had been temporarily robbed. Memphis sat on the bed, twinkling his innocent eyes.

"You know I love you, right." She smiled.

"Can we have lasagna for dinner?" He said, jumping off the bed and onto the floor.

"Do you know how to make lasagna?"

"Do you?"

They accompany each other out of the room.

"I guess mama must keep a cooking book somewhere."

"Who were those people, your friends from school?"

Sabrina had to pause and think about it. She shrugged. "Yeah, I guess you can say that. They are my friends, my friends from school."

"I didn't know that you had friends." He frowned.

"Race you downstairs!" She said.

Their rapid steps were heard descending down the stairs.

The end, but to be continued!
