11. More Than A Bad Hair Day

Whether it is a bad day or a good day, the day will unfold with a series of either good or bad events that will set the tone and determine the favour of each day. For Sabrina it all started off with having to wait for her brother as he occupied the bathroom in the morning.

"Memphis get out, you're taking forever."

"Sabrina, stop bangingon on the door." Her mother said, appearing from her bedroom. "He is just doing to you what you have done to him all these years, what goes around comes around." She said and once Memphis slipped out of the bathroom he wore a devious look on his face. "All yours." He said, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. They would be going back and forth the car ride on their way to school

"Great, I look like a troll." Sabrina said, taking one last look in the mirror. Because of the delay she had failed to straighten her hair and was forced to wear it natural today. Her curls were sprouting in every direction, she hated her curls. "This is all your fault." She said, turning around to face her brother in the back seat. She extended her tongue and so did he in return.

"Forget about soccer practice, I'm not picking you up, you can walk home alone for all I care."

"Mama!" Her brother cried.

"Stop it you two. Sabrina, your hair doesn't look that bad, now off you go."

Sabrina shielded her head with a beanie as she got out of the car.

"I'll be working late!" Her mother shouted. "Don't forget to feed your brother, I want you both in bed by eleven."

"Mama!" Sabrina turned around embarrassed. Students walking by expressed their amusement. It was turning into a bad day alright and the series of events that followed were none in Sabrina's favour.

"Headwear is not allowed in my classroom." Said Miss Chapman, stopping Sabrina at the door. This caused the rest of the students to stop and stare. "Great a crowd." Sabrina sighed, removing her beanie. Usually she would have enjoyed the dramatic gaspes from the audience, but as her beanie came off and her bush appeared, Sabrina kept her head down on her way to her seat. If that wasn't embarrassing enough what happened next was.

"That's my seat." A voice said, clearing his throat. Looking up, Sabrina was met by a displeased Thomas Rudiger.

"T...Thomas? You're back." She stuttered, there was a heavy feeling developing in her stomach.

"I am." Thomas nodded, he had a fixed smile on his lips. "And you are in my seat." His gaze wandered to her head. His expression was of ironic sympathy.

"Erm...right."

Just then Mick appeared behind the two of them. "Thomas!" He exclaimed, too happily for Sabrina's liking. The two embraced in a brotherly hug.

"How was it taking out your tonsils man, the surgery must have been painful?"

"I couldn't eat properly for days." Said Thomas and the boys shared a laugh, ignoring the fact that Sabrina still sat between them. She cleared her throat reannouncing her presence. Mick's eyebrows rose in surprise at the sight of her, at the sight of her hair. "Seb." He said, clearing his throat.

"So how are we gonna do this?" She said, cutting to the chase. "Thomas is back and I'm in his seat, however we still have a rapport to finish."

Behind them Miss Chapman announced that the lesson was about to begin, that all students ought to settle down.

"Maybe you can sit with Rahman today? Nelly is out sick and so there is a spare seat. Mick looked to Sabrina with remorse in his eyes when he suggested this. How dare she pity him, she thought.

"Fine." She said, getting up to switch seats. Jealous and angry she watched as Thomas Rudiger took her seat next to Mick. The lesson ended with Sabrina walking out of class alone, without Mick trailing her rapid steps out of the classroom. She even slowed down to give him a chance to catch up, but looking back she saw that Mick was in a deep conversation with his friend "Thomas Rudiger." She said, silently mocking the name.

Sabrina had a free period before gym class and that's when she had begun to notice the looks. In the beginning she thought the turning of heads was because of the bush growing out of her scalp, a part of her was out of order indeed. Nevertheless, the looks had turned into whispers and by the time gym class began, she understood that something was really off.

"Hey, my hair doesn't look that bad does it?" Sabrina asked one Lauire Maxwell who stood by a mirror in the locker room, blowing drying her hair after a couple of laps in the pool. Sabrina hadn't seen it coming when Larie turned around and slapped her in the face.

"Slut!" She yelled. As Sabirna put one hand to her cheek, preventing the pain from spreading.

"Why did you do that for?" She cried. If Sabrina hadn't been too concerned by the looks people were giving her for her hair she would have noticed the distinguished look Luarie Maxwell was giving her through the mirror. People from outside had begun gathering in the girls locker room, hearing the screams from inside. Boys that weren't allowed to enter yelled from the hallway, asking if a naked catfight had broken loose.

"You slept with Mick!" Laurie shouted, a part of her looking equally as shocked by the slap. The surface of her hand had gone red and was now shaking.

"Laurie I swear, I thought you guys had broken up." The crowd behind them scolded her in unison. Sabrina didn't care, her intention had never been to hurt Larie Maxwell, to steal her boyfriend.

Outside in the hallway teacher's could be heard breaking up the crowd, one of them being Principal Harrison. "Alright, break it up, what's going on here." He said, shuffling his way into the girl's locker room. "Are you girls decent?" He asked, but by then the crowd had scattered and Laurie Maxwell had pushed past Sabrina, emerging tears seen streaming down her face. Sabrina stood left alone, with one hand still rubbing her wounded cheek.

"Miss Parker, of course." Principal Harrison sighed. "My office now!"

For a minute they sat in silence, Principal Harrison leaning back in his chair and Sabrina staring down at the hands in her lap.

"It took a lot to convince Mr Schultze to take you back to the drama club," He said, leaning forward to correct a pencil that lay crooked on his desk.

"I doubt that." Sabrina snorted.

"Pardon me?"

"You're the Principal sir, whatever you say goes. I bet Mr Schultze had a good time humiliating me by bringing me back as his assistant."

"Miss Parker I suggest that there will be no more back talk during this meeting, you are already in enough trouble as it is." Principal Harrsions sharp voice slightly shook Sabrina's nerves, nevertheless a sense of numbness had arisen within her after seeing the heart broken look on one Laurie Maxwells face.

Principal Harrison regarded the curls sprouting out of Sabrina's head. A new look for her, he thought. Leaning back in his chair he sighed, "Tell me what happened."

Sabrina left the Principal's office with a suspension of two weeks and ban from all school activities this term, including next month's qualifying round ahead of the theater festival in Hockenheim.

"Suspended, why?" Said Klaus, he had found her wandering down the hallway and had followed her into the parking lot. He was desperate to report something back to the drama club.

"I slapped Laurie Maxwell in the face, that's why."

He stopped, put a hand to his mouth and gasped. "You did what?" Everyone in the drama club, equally as dramatic, she thought.

"Why would you do that?"

"Seb?" Before she could answer him, Mick was seen exiting the school building, rushing down the steps towards them. Klaus was slightly confused by the third party, but happy to be in the right place at the right time, something was unraveling right in front of his eyes.

"What happened? I heard that you got suspended."

"I did." Said Sabrina, ignoring the fact that Mick was breathless having spotted her and Klaus through a window and rushed out of class.

"Why? What did you do?" His voice was of concern.

"I slapped Laurie Maxwell in the face."

"You did what?" His eyes widened in surprise. "Did you really?"

"Of course not." She said angrily.

"You didn't?" Klaus exclaimed, expressing his confusion as he stood by.

"What happened then?" Mick pleaded, hopelessness and confusion expressed in his voice.

"What do you think? Someone must have told her about us, she found out and thought the worst about me."

"Who told her, Paulina?"

"Paulina?" Klaus said, astonished, making a mental note to himself.

"It doesn't matter Mick, Lauire got hurt because you said that you would break up with her and didn't."

"Oh honey." Klaus sighed.

Mick looked to be out of words, a queue for Sabrina to leave. She left the school premises without looking back. Iit wasn't until she reached the comfort of her own home that she slid down the door, crumbling onto the floor, letting all of the emotions run down her face.
