5: A Ridiculous Statement

As you process the straightforward statement, you eventually realize what Denki said and choke on your drink. You quickly place your cup down on the table to not spill it on any assignments. As you clear your own throat, you avert eye contact with Denki.

"You forgot to divide on your last problem," you mutter, attempting to divert the conversation elsewhere.

"Yeah, I know I did. I never said I was finished with it. Anyways, sing for the band. Katsuki will totally freak out once he hears your angelic tunes. Plus, Jiro will probably adore you," claims Denki, not realizing how much you wanted to avoid this.

You sigh. "Denki, I can't. I just don't think I can sing in front of people."

"But (y/n), you always sound so confident and bold when you present in front of the class. It's like you're the professor and Aizawa is just some prop when you're standing in front of the class. It's honestly amazing," states Denki, his eyes almost glistening.

Dumbfounded, you ask, "You.. actually paid attention when I presented?"

"Of course, you're a really smart person. I've known that since middle school. As weird as it may sound, I've always paid attention to anything you've had to say. I'm a dense person, really, so having you as my guide really helps me try to do better," claims Denki, smiling in your direction.

There was that feeling again.

BADUM BADUM BADUM BADUM

You gulp, trying to find the right words to say. Before you could say anything, Denki spoke again.

"In fact, (y/n), I think I could go as far to say that I look up to you... almost like a role model. Maybe you are my role model, is that even the right term?" adds Denki, not realize how much he is flattering you.

"I uh, um well, I actually- I need to use the restroom, excuse me," you abruptly get out of your seat, not realizing the waiter was nearby.

As you got up and quickly turned to head to the bathroom, you crash into the waiter from before. Luckily enough, he was not carrying anything, but the position you both were in was probably not the best.

You found yourself on top of the waiter as if you had pounced on him and pinned him to the ground. Before you could appreciate his purple, silky hair, you stood up. You quickly apologized and then ran into the bathroom as soon as you could.

You did your business in the restroom, washing your hands vigorously before splashing your face several times. You analyze your reflection, watching the water drip down your face. Despite the incident happening about five minutes ago, you could not help but still feel flustered. It was quite evident in your flushed features.

You shake your head in annoyance, sighing as you walk to the paper towel dispenser. You grab a couple towels and dry your hands and face. You look into the body mirror along the wall and tidy your outfit a bit. Once feeling content, you head back out and analyze the environment.

Everything was calm and slow. You look over at your table and see Denki working diligently on his math homework. Seeing his facial features look so serious was almost mesmerizing, but you ignore the thought of admiration and walk over to sit down.

"Hey (y/n), I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable by asking you to be our lead singer, but you're really good. We need a lead singer unless you want Katsuki making everyone's ears bleed," explains Denki with the sincerest look on his face.

"I accept your apology. I was overwhelmed and needed to create space, so I apologize for abruptly getting up without explanation. I'm sure I could sing well for you guys, but I'm not confident and get overwhelmed easily as you can see," you respond, taking a sip of your beverage.

"You should consider coming to our practice this Saturday. You don't have to sing or anything, just listen. I'm just thinking maybe you'll feel better when you meet the other two members of our band- they're way nicer than Katsuki!" laughs Denki, causing you to softly smile.

"If you finish all your homework that's due by next Monday before this Saturday and manage to score eighty percent or higher on each one, then I'll go," you state, grinning a little bit as Denki's smile turns into horror and finally into determination.

"Deal! You better keep your phone charged and stay prepared for all the questions I'm going to text you!" giggles Denki as he goes back to his worksheet.

You giggle, feeling so much better about today despite getting overwhelmed earlier.
