Horror Story

"You believe in ghosts, Stevie?" Bucky asks, leaning back in bed and glancing at his blonde boyfriend.

"Nope." He replies, meeting his gaze. Bucky puts his scary book down on his lap and tucks his hair behind his ear.

"But what if they did? How would you react?" He asks, tilting his head at him. Steve shrugs a little, rubbing the back of his neck.

"I don't know." He replies, Bucky hums something. He turns the news on and yawns, snuggling down into the blankets. Steve wraps an arm around his waist and Bucky rests his head on his shoulder, he watches the news.

Bucky sits up a little when he sees one lady in complete tears, looking panicked. She describes what can onto be described as a ghost, or spectre. Steve merely rolls his eyes at it.

"Like that could ever happen." He mumbles, yawning. Bucky shrugs and turns the tv off, curling up against him and wrapping his arms around his torso.

"G'night, Stevie." Bucky yawns, closing his eyes. Steve kisses the top of his head and nods.

"G'night, Buck." He replies, the brunette quickly falls asleep and soon so does Steve.

The next day rolls around, it was stormy and misty out. Bucky sits up, yawning and stretching his arms way above his head. Steve was in the kitchen, making coffee.

Bucky wanders into the kitchen, a thick blanket wrapped around his small shoulders. He yawns widely and shuffles over to Steve, he rests his head on his shoulder. The blonde looks over at him.

"Morning." He hums, twisting his head and kissing his cheek. Bucky nods. Steve hands him a cup of coffee and the brunette nods in thanks, he sips at it. Steve opens the fridge and sighs when he sees they're out of food.
"We need groceries." He comments, looking back at Bucky. He nods.

"Can you get 'em?" Bucky asks shyly, pouting a little for effect because he knew Steve always fell for the pout. Steve sighs and nods.

"Fine. Lazy." He teases, sticking his tongue out at him. Bucky sticks his tongue out as well.

Steve pulls his jacket on and gets his phone and wallet, he shoves his shoes on and opens the door.

"Be back in a bit." He hums, Bucky nods.

"Good luck." He croons, blowing a kiss at him. Steve rolls his eyes and smirks before saluting and closing the door behind him.

It was a gloomy day out there for sure, Steve couldn't see another soul out there. He shoves his hands in his pockets and whistles to himself, walking along. The wind whistles along eerily and Steve hears soft footsteps.

He was thinking about what Bucky said last night, because his mind decided to try to scare him. He shakes his head and scowls, ashamed he was scared of ghost stories.

"Excuse me, sir, you look lost. Can I help find you?" He hears a little girl ask. Steve freezes and looks around him; he saw nothing but mist. He swallows before starting to continue on his way.

"You look lost. I can help." The girl speaks again, closer this time. Steve whirls around and feels fabric whoosh by his legs. He swallows and could feel his heart pounding loudly. He shakes his head forcefully and hurries on his way towards the grocery store. He comes through the door and sighs, relaxing a little. He finds the groceries they'll need and buys them.

The blonde steps back outside into the gloom and starts hurrying along back home. He feels something ice cold and clammy grab his hand and he flinches away, only to be pulled back.

"Found you." The girl whispers in a singsong voice, pulling him close and whispering in his ear. She giggles and Steve pulls himself out of her grasp, he hurries away, heart racing. He bolts through the door and locks it behind him, Bucky looks up from his book.

"That was fast." He comments, watching him. Steve looked as pale as a ghost and Bucky noticed. He raises an eyebrow and goes over to him.

"What happened? You look kinda scared." He frowns, stopping in from of him. Steve manages a small smile and shakes his head.

"I'm fine." He lies, putting the food away. Bucky nods slowly, looking at him closely. He shrugs finally and goes back to the couch, back to his book. Steve's shoulders slump a little in relief and he sighs, thinking about whatever that girl meant.

Later that day Steve decided to do some research on missing persons cases. He just had a hunch. He pulls out his laptop and does some searching, he finds a list of girls who had recently gone missing.

He scrolls through and finds a report of a young girl. She had black hair in two pigtails, long and thick. She wore a simple pink dress and her eyes were dark brown, her skin was pretty pale as well. Steve reads through her report, frowning a little. Bucky pokes his shoulder and he flinches, looking over at him.

"What's got you so riled up?" Bucky asks, Steve shakes his head.

"Nothing." He replies, closing his laptop again. Bucky gives him a look and Steve looks at him.

"You better not be lying, Rogers." Bucky huffs, ruffling his hair. Steve sighs and nods.

The next few days go by and Bucky decides to go out for a walk. It was a rainy day and Steve was off on a mission by himself again.

Bucky wanders around town, his hair plastered to his head with rain. He hadn't brought an umbrella because that's how smart he was. He hears someone splash through a puddle and looks around; he was the only one walking along.

"Excuse me, sir, are you lost? Do you need help? I can help find you." A little girl offers, trotting up to him. She had black hair in pigtails, held up in big pink bows, and she was soaked through to her skin. Bucky raises an eyebrow, a small frown on his face.

"Uh, no thanks, kid." He says slowly, watching her. The girl's eyes widen a little and her mouth drops open.

"But you're lost." She states, staring up at him. He frowns.

"I know where I'm going." He says, starting to walk again. She follows and grabs his arm, he looks back at her.

"I found you." She whispers, staring into his eyes. He swallows and tries pulling away but her grip was tight. She takes a step closer and her eyes darken, they lose the light that reflected off of them. Bucky tries pulling away again, a bit weaker this time, he shakes his head slowly. He tries pulling away again but it really doesn't do much. His knees wobble and give out, the brunette silently slumps to the ground, eyes sliding closed. She smiles and kneels beside him, humming quietly to herself.

"Buck, I'm home." Steve calls out, stepping into the house. It was empty but he assumed that the brunette was upstairs in bed, like he should be, because it was late at night. He puts his stuff away and rubs the back of his neck, sighing quietly. He goes upstairs and enters their room, but the bed was empty. Steve frowns a little, wondering where he could be.

"Buck?" He calls, heading back downstairs. He looks around the entire place them comes to a halt in the basement, hands on his hips, frowning. He goes to head back upstairs when the lights go out. Steve groans and curses, he flicks the switch up and down by the light remains off. He sighs, starting to make his way to the stairs. Steve trips over something and falls forward, throwing his hands out to catch himself. He huffs and gets up.

Steve swears he hears a giggle and freezes. He turns in a slow circle, trying to see through the darkness. He feels a hand grab his arm, then another hand. One felt like metal and his first thought was of Bucky, and the other was smaller. He tries pulling away.

"Buck, cut it out." He huffs, yanking his arm free from the metal arm's grasp. He backs up and bumps into what felt like a stair, he turns and races upstairs and slams the door behind him. There's a thump and Steve presses his ear to the door, listening.

"Steve, can you help me?" He hears a voice, which was unmistakably Bucky's. He holds the door closed with his shoulder pressed to it for extra support.

"Please, Steve, I'm lost." He whispers, sounding scared. The blonde swallows.

"How'd this happen?" Steve asks. There's a pause before the brunette replies.

"She got me lost." He replies plainly, he shoves the door open. Steve stumbles back and his eyes widen when he sees Bucky standing there, eyes completely black, and that little girl stood beside him.

"Bucky, you're not lost." Steve tries, the brunette stares at him. The girl takes a step closer.

"You're lost, aren't you? Your mother lost you two years ago." Steve says quickly, looking at her. She tilts her head at him, nodding slowly. Bucky keeps his gaze on Steve, who shivers a little under it.

"I can help find you." Steve says, gesturing to the girl. She narrows her eyes suspiciously but nods slowly. He nods and grabs his laptop, quickly doing some research. He glances at the pair and shudders a little to himself.

He finds out that the girl's name was Clara Evertale, and her mom's name was Margaret Evertale. He closes his laptop and gets up, he hurries out the door and the two others follow. Clara frowns at him suspiciously and whispers to Bucky, who keeps his gaze fixed on the blonde.

Steve finds Mrs. Evertale's address and knocks on her door. Clara narrows her eyes. They widen when she sees her mother. Without a word Clara swings open the door and disappears inside, Steve sees her with her mother and turns back to Bucky. The brunette collapses to the ground and Steve hurries to his side.

"Buck, you okay?" He asks worriedly, shaking his shoulder. Bucky doesn't reply and Steve's heart sinks. He rolls him over and inside the house hears a womanly wail. Steve's eyes widen; he figured getting her back to her mom would help, but it only set them free, leaving the empty bodies behind.

"No, no, no." Steve mumbles, sitting beside the pale brunette. He picks him up in his arms and Bucky remains limp.

"You found us." Someone whispers in the wind and Steve shakes his head forcefully, the reality of it all not quite hitting home yet.

"No, no, Bucky. Please." He whispers, looking down into his face. The brunette's eyes were back to normal and wide open, but vacant. Steve swallows the lump in his throat and closes Bucky's eyes carefully. He hugs him close, letting out a small sob. He didn't want to lose him, he didn't want to lose his best friend. But it was already too late now; he found them, but they remained lost just the same.
