Chapter 18

Natalie Miller

Wednesday 23rd February

7pm Toronto

Sitting on the leather beside me, I adjust my position as Isaac sits the opposite from me, trying to talk casually.

"Nat, I recently won a competition and got a scholarship to attend a post graduate course in the States. It's amazing and I think-" He brags intentionally before I stop him.

"Cut to the chase. I'm not in the mood." I interrupt.

"The least you can do is pretend to be interested." He murmurs.

"And why would I do that? Just tell me why I am here?"

He takes a huge gulp of his drink before saying, "Natalie, I think we should get back together.

"Forget it, Isaac. It's over between us."

"Natalie, I broke up with Lucy just so I could get back with you. It's only when I saw you with Josh when I realised that you were so worth it. I'm sorry for lying about my father's death. I don't think Josh is a great guy for you- "

"And I should listen to you?!" I interrupt standing up and attracting attention.

"Forget me, Isaac. We're over."

I take my handbag and attempt to leave the diner before Isaac calls out my name.

"Natalie, didn't you like me back in college? A 3-year crush? You'll regret not taking my apology right now!" he shouts as I slowly tighten my fist.

I walk back to the table and punch Isaac in the face. I can't stand a word that comes out of this asshole's mouth.

"Don't ever talk to me again." I demanded before walking out of the diner, in a bad mood.

I call an Uber over and head back to the apartment. The audacity of that douchebag trying to get back with the girl he cheated on. Arriving back at the apartment block, I thank my Uber driver and head into the block, excited to see Josh.

The elevator doors open, and I walk to the door of the condo before I see Josh, standing next to a woman with black hair. The similarity between these two stand out to my eyes. She was like the female version of Josh.

I instinctively run to Josh, grab his hand, and pull him back. I don't give myself a second to think about this situation logically.

This could be Josh's sister or cousin.

"Josh, who is this?" I ask, holding tightly onto his arm.

"I'm his sister, Rachel. Who are you?" the beautiful black-haired woman asks me, curiously.

I feel my cheeks go red and apologise to Rachel. I'm such an idiot. Jumping to conclusions like that.

"It's all right. It makes sense. My, my Josh. You never told me you had a girlfriend."

"There's a reason why I never tell you anything about my life, Rachel. Anyways, leave. You're being annoying." Josh rants as his sister disagrees.

It's at this moment I realise my hand was still holding onto Josh's arm.

He must feel uncomfortable.

I let go of his arm only for Josh to grab my hand and look towards me.

"Sorry. I thought you were uncomfortable, so I let go." I told him.

"No. I don't mind. You are my girlfriend, after all." He reassures me as my cheeks go back to a light red.

Catching Rachel's eyes do I realise that we're not the only ones here.

"I'm going to leave. I don't like couples that much and you two are radiating... that energy." Rachel nags moving her hand in a circular motion towards us, slightly disgusted.

"Sorry." I start as the siblings interrupt me in sync.

"Don't apologise!"

I burst into laughter, seeing how similar these two are.

"Are you two twins?"

'No!" they both yell, annoyed.

"We're a year apart but I'm nothing like Josh. While he is out here dating you, I'm living the single life and I'm proud of it." Rachel declares as Josh sighs in exasperation at his sister's antics.

"Nowadays, the new trend is being single and not dating anyone. And I want to be the biggest advocate for that. The single life is amazing! I told this to mother as confident as I could, when she tried to set me up in an arranged marriage."

I smile as Rachel describes her passion for not dating anyone.

"Even with that difference, Josh still tries to be as similar to me as possible. He just happens to start first. Especially when he told mother that he wanted to live in Toronto and refuses to continue to live in Singapore."

"Wait, actually? I thought Josh always lived in Toronto." I mentioned, looking at Josh sheepishly smile.

"That's a cover up Natalie. Josh was born with a silver spoon in his mouth." Rachel explained.

I looked towards Josh as I only had one question in mind. He looked worried and I wouldn't blame him. He better answer me.

"Josh..." I started.

"Do you have a horse?" I ask in curiosity.

The mood changes from rocky to full blown confused. I have a habit of changing the mood without realising it.

"A...horse?" Josh asks, blinking far more often than he usually does.

"Yeah. You know the horses that are brown and have white spots. Those ones."

Josh wholesome fit of laughter as I wait for his response. Still waiting for his response.

"Nat, you are so random." He giggles, taking me inside the condo.

"I guess that's my cue to leave. Nice meeting you Natalie. See you Josh." Rachel waves us goodbye before leaving for the elevator.

Josh closes the door and sits next to me on the couch as I adjust myself.

"You still haven't given me a response on if you have horses." I remind Josh as he smiles at me.

"I don't, Hazelnut. I could get you one."

"Don't do that. It's really nice but I'll get mad at you if you do that."

"Yes ma'am. Like I said before, you are really random"

"It's like what I always...well mostly say. I am both random and flexible." I declare confidently.

A dashing smirk creeps up on Josh's face. "How flexible are you, Natalie?"

"Extremely flexible...both ways too."

I feel Josh wrap his arm around my waist and pull me closer. Close enough where I could feel his breath on my neck.

I think we're talking about flexible in different contexts. I'm not complaining though.

"Josh..." I start as I move my hands on to his cheeks and smile at him. "You'll find out that I'm the most flexible person you have ever met."

I finish my sentence and set my lips on his starting with a small peck. It escalates into a deep and passionate kiss. My thumbs are making circles on his cheeks, and he adjusts me, so that I am in-between him, and hoists me up.

Walking towards the kitchen, we break from this kiss and Josh sets me onto the kitchen counter. I get reminded of the weird dream that I had of Josh and start to giggle.

"What's on your mind?" he asks.

"You know I had a dream about you kissing me in the kitchen."

"You did?"

"Yep."

Josh smiles and kisses me again, his cold hands moving to my thigh, and I could feel forgotten spots tingling once more.

Josh moves to my neck and plants kisses against my neck and lightly bites on neck as I wince. He grins against my neck, planting more kisses before hoisting me up and carrying me to his bedroom. His hand was holding me up as we passionately kiss walking towards his bedroom. I push the door close, and he carefully lands me onto his bed.

My eyes wandered off as Josh smirks and we kiss again as I feel his broad chest against my own chest.

I feel my legs tingle and take off my slippers, flipping Josh over so I was on top of him. He smiled and pulled me closer. His hands were travelling to my bra strap, down to the front. He didn't hesitate to unlock the clip and drop the bra on the floor.

Pushing me back on my back again, he travels down my body as I look up at the ceiling. His cold hands slowly moving down to my thighs. I take deep breaths as I feel my denim shorts being removed. I move myself up and look Josh in the eye as he looks back at me in curiosity. I unbutton his shirt and throw it on the ground as he grins back at me, clearly interested.

He pulls me closer and wraps his arms around my waist and kisses me passionately. I wrap my arms around his neck and smile against his lip as he does the same.

Hours had past, and so did the passionate love. I lay on Josh's bed, under the covers as he looks at me. No words were exchanged, and he just looked at me and I did the same. I carefully trace my finger on my cheek, drawing a circle.

"Why do you do that?" he starts as I smile back at him.

"I just thought of it on the spot and got into the habit of drawing circles on the person I am kissing."

"You doing that reminded me of the first time we kissed."

"You mean in the rain? I can't remember if I did that."

"You know Nat, that's not the first time we've kissed."

"What do you mean? What other time did I kiss you? Back in high school?"

"No. When you were drunk. You kissed me against the door of this apartment."

Blood flows to my cheeks and ears as I rub my face in embarrassment. Josh just laughs and kisses me on the cheek.

"Did I really kiss you that night?" I ask him, still embarrassed.

"Yeah, you did. From that moment on, couldn't stop thinking about you."

Josh hugs me as I think back to the moment when we reunited back at that hotel bar. We bickered, had a drinking competition and I kissed Josh while drunk. After all of that, I ended up getting stuck with Josh.

But , that's not bad...
