Once one turns 21, during one's birthday month, it is required, by law, to attend the "Partner for Life" banquet in which one 'finds' their lover/partner for life.

Women draw from a pot with slips of paper that includes the names of all the male attendees, and vice versa for the males. Only half of all the attendees choose while the other half sit and await their fate.

In each pot ( for men and women) there are five blank slips, meaning they actually have a choice of whom they want to partner with. These people get the choice of picking those not partnered up yet or those who are( but only those at the banquet).

Once chosen, you are stuck with that partner for life...
