34) IT'S UP TO TIME

Serena pulled her hood onto her head as she made her way into one of the many Starbucks New York City had to offer. She headed towards the back of the predominantly large coffee establishment, only to find exactly who she was looking for. Harry Styles was sitting by himself at the very back of the establishment, just as he had informed Serena he would be. Of course, being so under the radar was not at all Serena's style, but she knew how Harry could be. In New York, no one except for tourists paid very much mind to celebrities, as they were all over the place, but Harry rarely ever came to the city, and as one of the world's most known celebrities, Serena understood his need to lay low. Harry loved meeting fans, but he had become so reserved over the years. His privacy was everything to him, and Serena would always respect that.

A smile lit up Serena's face when she noticed two drinks sitting on the table instead of one. Harry had bought her drink for her, and had surprisingly remembered which drink to get her in the first place.

"You remembered my drink," Serena chimed as she slid into the seat across from him.

Harry looked up at her and smiled. "Of course I remembered, Rena. You get the same thing every time you come here, and it's one of the most basic drinks you could get from Starbucks."

"A mocha frappuccino may be basic, but it's still the way to my heart," Serena chuckled and sipped at her drink.

She looked up at Harry, who was shaking his head at her with a smirk on his face, and her green eyes brightened slightly. She'd missed her friend so much. The last time she'd seen him, she and Louis had been together, and although it hadn't been long since she and Louis split up, it had been exceptionally long since she and Harry had seen each other. Harry had been busy promoting his upcoming album, while Serena had been busy sulking in her apartment. She was thankful that he had found some time to spend with her given everything that had been happening in their hectic lives.

"I'm really glad to see you," Serena said to him. "It's been awhile."

"You're right," Harry replied with a quiet chuckle.

"How's everything going with you? I presume the album is coming along swimmingly, am I right?"

Harry nodded and sipped away at his drink. "People seem to be really enjoying solo Harry."

"Not that I prefer solo Harry to One Direction Harry, but I'm really proud of you for doing something like this for yourself," Serena said to him. "I could say the same about the rest of the boys, Louis included. I'm proud of all of you for doing something for yourselves."

"And you know that means a lot to me, Rena."

Harry smiled at Serena, but it faltered the moment Louis popped into his mind. He had been very upset with his best friend as of lately, and it had everything to do with the young girl sitting across from him. He loved Serena and Louis a ton, but he could not deny that Louis's actions toward Serena were anything less than unacceptable. He had hurt her and didn't seem to care until after the damage had been done, and that was something he could not stand. The fact of it made him livid, so he could only imagine just how Sebastian was feeling about the situation. He was surprised Sebastian hadn't done much about it, but at the same time he wasn't, and Serena was likely the cause of it.

Serena noticed Harry's sudden change in expression and frowned, her eyebrows furrowing in worry and slight confusion. "What's wrong, Harry?"

"Louis is a dick, that's what's wrong, Serena," Harry answered her.

Serena snickered but quickly covered her mouth. "Tell me how you really feel, why don't you?"

"I'm serious," Harry remarked. "I hate that he did what he did to you; you didn't deserve it."

"It's okay, Harry."

A ghost of a smile appeared on Serena's face, and Harry knew it was a lame attempt to reassure him, but he could see the emotion in her eyes. Their breakup still effected her in some way or another, and Harry knew that. He just hated that she was forced to spend her time hurting while Louis appeared to be the complete opposite.

"It's not okay, Serena."

Serena sighed and sat forward in her seat, her green eyes boring deeply into Harry's own. "Listen to me, I have so many people in my life doing everything they can to get me through this breakup, and you are one of those people. I feel so much better about everything that's been happening knowing that I have all of these people in my life—that I have you in my life—so yes, it is okay, Harry."

"Tom wouldn't happen to be one of those people as well, would he?" Harry smirked.

"Yes," Serena chuckled, "Tom is one of those people."

"And how exactly did that happen?"

Serena shrugged and took a sip of her coffee. "It just kind of did, I guess. We just clicked one day on Instagram and we've been talking every day since."

"Is he gonna be your next bae?" Harry inquired.

"Did you really just say that?" Serena laughed at the mere sound of Harry using American slang. His accent only made things better.

"What?" Harry chuckled. "I'm in America, I might as well act the part."

Serena only shook her head at him and got back on track with their conversation. "Anyway, I'm not sure about that. I'm not even sure if I really like him like that, but at the same time I don't think I would mind if I did, y'know? We've never actually met each other in person, but it's gotten to the point where I feel as if we have; I feel as if we've been friends for years. Tom is just so easy to talk to, and I can be myself when talking to him; I'm comfortable with Tom. He makes me forget about the pain."

"Sounds like someone you'd be smart to keep around," Harry suggested.

"I guess you're right," Serena spoke softly. "It's up to time to decide what happens from this point, I guess."

"And hopefully time makes the right decision," Harry replied.

Serena smiled in agreement, which Harry only returned. The sight of her smile alone was enough to make him happy, especially knowing it was genuine. He could only hope it stayed that way this time around.
