9 (part 1) : Tom Sawyer's Island
"Ding!" The cell phone rang loudly in the bag.
"This just in, more bad news." Skylar said studying the new text message from the cell phone.
"What?" Andrew said annoyed not wanting more bad news on top of every thing else.
"This one isn't our fault but Star Wars is taking over." She said grimly.
"Oh yeah Star Wars land, I'm so excited for it! What's the matter with that?" Andrew asked, puzzled.
"Star Wars land is cutting off half of the Rivers of America and getting rid of the Indian village. The place we were just at!" Skylar said, mad at him for not knowing this.
"Oh, Star Wars land. I can't believe they would get rid of such old things like the Indians. The Mark Twain is one the original rides and Walt himself paid for it." He said, realizing just how big an impact this was.
"They change the park more and more every day. New is not always better." She sighed putting the phone anyway.
"Try telling that to the millions of Star Wars fans, it is pretty cool."
She scowled at him. "We are trying to tell them! And I don't need you to convince too!"
"This is going to be a hard job." Andrew sighed and Skylar nodded silently.
"So you think Tom Sawyer's Island is going to be more pirates?" She asked after a while.
"I'm not sure, it's a little bit of everything. We'll just have to see now won't we?" He shrugged pushing the oar through the water.
They kept paddling towards a nearby island. By the looks of it it seemed small, but they never knew what to expect. Eventually they got close and the canoe began to slide into the sand. It shored up on a sandy bank and they got out.
They left the oars in the canoe with a wooden thud and hiked up the mounds of sand. This was much like their very first ride together and both remembered it in a different way.
As they reached the top a wooden mill came into view. The wheel spun wildly turning water and spilling it back into the Rivers of America.
"This is Harper's Mill, isn't it?" Skylar wondered aloud.
"Or what used to be. It's now Lafitte's Tavern." Andrew said in disgust.
"Oh yeah, they re-modeled it in 2007. Re-modeled it fit..." She paused not wanting to say it.
"To fit the Pirates movies." Andrew finished.
"You were right more pirates." Skylar said with a sickening feeling.
"And over there, that's a blacksmith?" She exclaimed not remembering this building since, she hadn't been to the island in quite a while.
They walked up the the small building off to their right.
"Indeed it is, William Turner's in fact." He said, staring at the swinging wooden sign.
"Great, just what we need."
"William Turner is a good guy remember? Maybe he can help us." He replied trying to be optimistic.
"How so?" Skylar said skeptically.
"Let's go find out." Andrew said walking up to the blacksmith and creaking open the wooden door.
This large wooden room appeared empty as they stepped in. It was William Turner's Blacksmith alright. A lit stone stove flickered with the flame of heated metal. A giant wooden turnstile rotated slowly with various weapons and tools hanging from it. A dusty brown donkey powered this turnstile as it clomped slowly in a circle.
The ground was nothing but dirt and hay, the ceiling was made of wooden rafters. This place was filled with swords, swords that had been practiced with 3 hours a day by a person that fancied Miss Swann.
"He's here." Skylar whispered in a hushed tone.
"What?" Andrew responded rather loudly.
Skylar hit him as a signal to be quiet and pointed to a triangular brown hat set by the smoking stove.
"Jack's hat." He said now in a whisper.
"He's here." She responded. "That must mean--"
The wooden lock unlatched because William Turner was coming through the door!
The two scampered behind the turnstile, crouching down in the shadow of the donkey but if someone were to look, they would be easily spotted.
Will walked through the door, checking to see that everything was in its place.
"Right where I left you." He said looking at the sleeping man in the chair. "Not where I left you." He said looking at a moved tool. Then he saw Jack's hat and reached for it.
Both Skylar and Andrew watched intently, knowing that a duel was just about to go down.
Jack Sparrow slapped Will's hand with a sword as he reached for his hat.
"You're the one they're searching for. The pirate." Will said carefully and Jack approached him with the sword.
"You seem some what familiar. Have I threaten you before?" Jack asked trying to be witty but also studying him now.
"I make a point of avoiding familiarity with pirates." He responded.
"Ah then it'd be a shame to put a black mark on your record. So if you'll excuse me." The pirate relaxed, turning to get his hat and walk out but as he does this Will grabs a sword and points it at him. "Do you think this wise, boy? Crossing blades with a pirate?" Jack warned him.
"You threatened Miss Swann." Turner replied fiercely, still ready to attack.
"Only a little." Sparrow mustered scraping his sword against Will's.
They break out with swords clanging, and Will throws two empty swipes at Jack. They continue, shuffling back in forth in front of the turnstile. Andrew and Skylar hold their breath.
"You know what you're doing. I'll give you that. Excellent form." Jack mocks although congratulating Will on his sword fighting. "But how's your footwork?"
Jack keeps on fighting with him, getting more challenging by the moment.
"Ta." Jack walked to the door but Will stops him by jamming the door shut with his sword.
"That is a wonderful trick. Except, once again you are between me and my way out. And now you have no weapon." The pirate comes at him with a sword and Will grabs another sword, this one on fire.
The donkey that Skylar and Andrew are hiding behind whimpers and begins to trot. They are forced to move out of the way quickly as Will cuts his hot sword through the air hitting the main pole of the turnstile. Sparks fly everywhere from his sword but neither notice the two children at their feet.
"That's it!" Skylar yells annoyed but just sitting by. She grabs a sword off the wall and intercepted into the fight. Both men paused a moment in surprise, but she swings at them and the fight continues with now three of them.
Andrew is perplexed by this but after all both of them are pirates or will be soon.
"Who makes all these?!" Jack asked bewildered by a second person to fight.
"I do. And I practice with them--- three hours a day!" Will explained grabbing onto the middle post and turning with it.
"You need to find yourself a girl, mate. Or is this her?" Jack said eyeing Skylar as she swings at him. "Bit young, isn't she? Well how ever you wish, I guess."
"I've never seen her before in my life!" Turner said, distracted by her for a second.
"Neither have I." Jack said, also puzzled but it's not enough to stop him from fighting them.
Skylar turns to swing at Will as he try's to attack Jack. "Who's side are you on?" He asks confused.
"Neither!" She yelled, now having a sword in both hands pointed one at each of them.
All three stop, two of them in wonder of this mysterious girl.
"Good, I've got your attention." Skylar hollers as a three of them spin on the turnstile. "Now as long as we're all spinning here, let me tell you that the British Navy is coming through that door in about 2 minutes and the Black Pearl is coming tonight. So either you two stop fighting or we will never get anywhere!"
"Did you say the Black Pearl?" Jack questioned suddenly interested.
"Why would I care about any of that?" Will said aiming a sword at her.
"Did I forget to mention Elizabeth is in danger?"
"Okay, I'm listening." Will responded, now intrigued in what she has to say.
Jack gets restless and reaches for his gun with the one shot, but finds it not to be there.
"I don't think." Andrew says aiming the gun at Jack.
Skylar smiles at him approvingly.
Suddenly the British Navy are heard just outside door. Jack doesn't dare move and Will is unsure what to do.
They bust down the door finally, as Will's sword that he lodged in the door gives way. The British men rush in.
"There he is! Over here!" They spot Jack.
What a sight they were. Two men and a girl with their swords all pointed at each other as they turning rapidly on a turnstile and on top of that a boy has a gun pointed at the wanted pirate.
"Well this was a bust." Skylar mumbled to herself.
"Onto the next part of the island then?" Andrew asked as the men file in.
"Yes, because this is the day that Captain Jack Sparrow almost escaped."
