3 (part 2): Land of the Dinosaurs

Andrew groaned as he pushed the rubble off of himself. Luckily the fall was not fatal. He had landed on another lower cliff just below the one that had crumbled.

Andrew had heard many weird noises above him as his unconscious self tried to sort them out. He had heard a goat bleat, a large shrill, flapping of wings and then after all that he heard Skylar, not screaming but definitely in trouble.

His whole body ached in pain as he lay flat staring at the sky. Andrew tried moving but only succeeded in having searing pain go up his arm. Telling from his own reaction he knew it was broken.

His mind raced, they were in the Grand Canyon Diorama so what came next? He thoughts were fogged by the pain but he finally came up with the answer.

"The dinosaurs!" Andrew exclaimed almost sitting up but then winced laying back down. That's probably where Skylar is or was taken to, he worried.

He knew he had to get up. Sooner or later this cliff would collapse. So far Andrew recognized that he had a broken arm and a whole lot of pain.

Leaning on his good arm he pushed himself up to a sitting position. Not looking over the edge he staggered to his feet.

Attempting to climb with his broken arm, Andrew slowly ascended up the red rocks. The top was so close but you try doing anything with one arm.

He finally reached a part of the top that was stable and breathed quickly. The train still sat there just waiting with it striped green awning on top.

Andrew walked over to the train and as soon as he sat down it began to move.

A voice went over the speaker.
"That was the Grand Canyon as we know it today but it wasn't always that way. Quiet now as we travel back in time, back to the fantastic Primeval World, Land of the Dinosaurs."

Skylar was about to become lunch. Covered in what she hoped to be just mucus she sat in a nest, a top a hill, that was surrounded by dinosaurs.

She had been carried, rather harshly, by a flying dinosaur. She wasn't good with her Paleontology but Skylar guessed it to be a Pterodactyl.

Now it sat watching her intently. It screeched and then clapped its beak shut. Three pearly white eggs sat next to her, soon to be hatched.

The shoulder bag sat off to the side just out of her reach. It glowed inside like it wanted her to get something out of it. Skylar believed she could maybe reach it but the flying dinosaur watched her with its beady black eyes.

She stretched her arm out and barely touched the leather strap. Skylar glanced back at the Pterodactyl and it hadn't moved. She pulled it over to her and the flying dinosaur just flapped its orange wings then folded them.

Skylar stuck her hand into the glowing bag and pulled out the directions packet of papers. With difficulty she flipped the papers until one read "The Grand Canyon Diorama".

It read : 1) Loud noises will cause a landslide in the Grand Canyon
2) The flyers will carry you off of you're not careful

"Yeah that would have been nice to know before!" Skylar yelled at the paper and another direction appeared.

3) Water will get you unstuck

She wondered if this applied to her. Water was down below her surrounding the big rock formation she was on. If she could only somehow escape.

From the eggs came a large cracking sound and a big split formed into one of them. Skylar grew nervous trying to free her legs but a ringing gave her hope.

She watched as the train came into view still far away but she could see Andrew there. She stuffed the paper back in the bag and finally getting her legs free she ran to the edge of the rock.

It was a long way down but as the flying dinosaur charged at her she jumped. It dove flying after her but as Skylar plunged into the murky water it flew back up.

The goop that she was covered in came off in the water. The water was so dirty though that she could barely see in it. Tons of moss and other aquatic plants also filled the water.

A green lizard-like creature swam quickly towards Skylar. She pushed herself back in the water and grabbed onto a piece of algae unintentionally. Suddenly she was pulled up and out of the water by the plant she clung to.

It was too late to let go when she realized she was dangling from a plant being eaten by a very tall dinosaur. Its neck stretched sky high and its long body was half submerged in the water.

It ate the plant slowly, chewing like a cow but a smaller dinosaur of the same kind came out to try and take a bite as well. And unfortunately Skylar was on the end of that plant.

She clung to it for dear life not wanting to fall back into the water with that other creature. Skylar looked over in Andrews direction very far away now. He seemed to be trying to tell her something.

The smaller dinosaur came closer and closer, stretching up and almost reached her.

Andrew waved his arm grabbing her attention. "They're h--" he said but the rest was muffled out by a loud roar. He tried again. "Those are Apatosaurus! They're herbivores!"

Skylar finally got the message. She swung on the algae and went down the back of the little apatosaurus, now gladly knowing these things didn't want to eat her.

Skylar arrived at the tip of the tail of the apatosaurus just below the train. She climbed up and met Andrew.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"Yeah fine. Where were you all this time?"

"Just fell off a cliff no problem." He said lightly.

"Seriously!" Skylar was now concerned.

"We are in the Grand Canyon Diorama this place just keeps getting weirder, yes I'm fine. Although I might have a broken arm" Andrew blew off.

"Let me see." She examined his arm and even though it hurt a lot he didn't move. "It's not broken." Skylar concluded.

"Good to know." Andrew said rubbing his sore arm.

"Ok so now what?" She questioned.

"We go, I guess. Keep going." He said to the train and it began to move.

It went slowly passing the apatosaurus and the pterodactyls. One Pterodactyls came right in front of they screeching loudly but the train moved past it. Then the train just stopped.

It stopped right in front of a small sandy beach-like area. Eggs bigger than the pterodactyls but still small sat there but no dinosaurs were seen. The beach was surrounded by tall palm trees and other plants.

They couldn't get the train to move so they had to get out of the train, wade in the shallow water and come up onto the beach. The four off-white eggs just sat there but soon enough they began to hatch.

Little sounds could be heard from inside and then one of the babies just fell out with a piece of shell still on its head.

It looked so precious to Skylar, a tiny little fragile thing like that. She wanted to just pick it up but Andrew realized what these were.

"These are baby Triceratops!" He realized.

A rustle came from the trees and two gigantic adult Triceratops came bounding out with their sharp horns. These muscular beasts towered above them and they were very protective.

As cute as the babies were, the pair cautiously walked away, again wading into the shallow water. Rather than going to the train, which they figured still wouldn't move, then walked on.

They walked through a huge assortment of trees and ended up in a desert. They stepped foot on a dry, cracked brown ground.

The wind whistled and dust blew around. Barely any greenery was here for not much could survive in such harsh climates. Everything looked like it was dying, everything yearned for water.

There was a small puddle of water surrounded by three small dinosaurs. They sipped the water gingerly as if on their last life. A skeleton of one of them lay nearby.

Just looking at all this made the pair thirsty but they went on knowing there wasn't much left but the worst was to come.

They walked up some dunes of sand to find a large skeleton of a Triceratops laying there. It saddened them to see the familiarity with this one and the live ones they had seen not too long ago.

Past that when they walked further they grimaced as they watched the ground underneath them turn red. A booming roar came from the T-Rex in front of them.

Although it's attention was turned towards a also gigantic Stegosaurus that had its spiky tail in a striking position. The two were a sight to see but having seen they a million times seeing them alive did not thrill either of the humans.

The ground had huge rifts that went off into boiling lava. The whole place glowed an orangish red color.

"What are we going to do?" Skykar wanted to know.

"All we have to do was not fall into the giant splits in the floor while simultaneously not getting eaten. No biggie right?" Andrew tried to lighten the mood.

Skylar was not pleased by his response but she then thought of something.

"Let's go back to that Triceratops skeleton we saw early." She whispered to him even though no one could hear them over all the noise.

"Why?"

"Because I have an idea."

It wasn't the best plan but it was a plan. They had taken part of the large rib cage of the animal and hung it over them fully. It served like a protective cover, encase anything hit them.

They trudged slowly and carefully not wanting to be noticed. The huge crevasses made it extra difficult but they maneuvered around them by slowly turning the whole cage.

When it was time to go behind the dinosaurs it came quite easily for the creatures were so focused on each other. They made movements every so often at each other where the pair would have to quickly get out of the way.

At certain points, lava would rise up, shooting from below so unexpected that they almost walked into one. All in all it was slow going but they finally made it to the end.

They dropped the cage off them with a clamorous crack. It was much louder than expected because it had fallen into a lava hole and it made both dinosaurs turned their heads for the first time at the pair.

The creatures did not wait a split-second on coming after them and they began to charge. The humans on the other hand did wait because Andrew's foot had gotten caught in a smaller crack.

With room shaking footsteps the dinosaurs came closer. Andrew's foot slipped free and his shoe stayed. He ran but for some reason Skylar didn't.

She wedged his shoe out, feeling it was important. Then she noticed the dinosaurs and ran too.

They reached the train basically on floor when it began to move.

"I have your shoe!" Skylar announced.

"Who am I, Cinderella?" Andrew breathed and gave her a weird look.

Skylar dropped the shoe on the floor too tired for more words. The train now sped in a blur of colors again.

They both still lay on the ground, exhausted from running. Skylar eventually pulled herself up onto the seat.

"Where do you want to go, now that we've got Jurassic Park done?" Andrew joked.

"I don't know. Let's see where it takes us."
