3 (part 1) :On the Train

"Go!" Skylar yelled at the train and it began to move.

The train flew much faster than a bullet train and all they could see was a blur of colors as they went past things. No idea where they were going, Andrew and Skylar took a minute to recollect everything.

Their clothes were in shreds and that's when Andrew realized just how real these things were. "Are you okay?" He asked and Skylar shook her head yes, still out of breath.

Skylar pulled some clothes out of the bag the statue had given them and handed a pair to Andrew. He stared at her quizzically.

"Well? Turn around." she ordered.

"Oh." Andrew said gladly doing it as he too changed the shredded shirt he was wearing.

Skylar cleared her throat. "Do you believe all this?" They looked back at each other.

Skylar was now wearing another blue shirt and Andrew was wearing gray.

"Believe what? That we are here? At times but it's a lot to take in, for anyone." Andrew replied.

"Yeah." Skylar uttered softly. "So what did you find on Walt? Skylar asked finally after they had had a moment of silence.

"I don't really know yet." Andrew said still clutching the paper in his hand. "It talks about Walt and how he came up with ideas for the Haunted Mansion."

Skylar took the paper from him and read aloud. " Disney assigned Imagineer Ken Anderson to create a story about the Mansion and hired Harper Goff to design it."

"The Harper Goff?!" Andrew got excited.

"Yeah he's a Disney legend now but not back then. It says Goff designed it to be a creepy, rundown place but Walt had other ideas. He didn't want an old building in his pristine park." Skylar finished.

"But I know for a fact Walt died in 1966 and the Mansion opened in 1968, so how does that count?" Andrew puzzled.

"You sound just like everyone else. He came up with the Haunted Mansion of course it counts!" Skylar said now mad and turned away from him.

"Hey I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that." Andrew apologized truthfully. "Look we just have to get through this, go to every ride and then get out of here."

She sighed and turned towards him. "Okay, but what do you mean get through this? We are at the happiest place on Earth, lets have some fun with it." Skylar smirked and Andrew was surprised considering what they had just gone through.

The train suddenly stopped or rather slowed down so much to normal speed that it seemed like it had stopped. It was pretty dark but had a little light that lit the tunnel the train was in.

They heard the trains go over the tracks noisily but except for that it was silent. Then music began to play and both of them now knew where they were.

A voice came over the speaker of the train. "The next leg of our journey will take us along the rim of the spectacular Grand Canyon. Its a long drop to the canyon floor, so please stay seated with your hands and arms inside the train. And now the Grand Canyon."

The music continued and a bright light came into view. The chirping of birds was heard as they flew around in the train.

Glass did not conceal the dusty red cliff that was at the edge of the train tracks and the pair were now thankful for the railing in front of them. They faced the Grand Canyon but not the one with wall paper to make the illusion of the Grand Canyon.

There were acres and acres of canyons spread out as far as they could see and the person was right when they said it would be a long drop to the canyon floor.

Trees came in front of their view and deer were hidden in between them. A buck stood with its tall antlers pointing up and blinked it's black eyes at them. These of course we're not stuffed.

There was more ground here than before and a whole manner of creatures were in the brush. Porcupines pricked up the quills in caution as they clung to a tree. Skunks with a streak of white down their backs trotted off with their tails held high.

Then the trees seemed to get a little darker and the music deeper. The train still chugged on slowly. Lightening flashed in the distance but it was nothing to worry about.

A cave made out of red rock came next and a huge mountain lion was balancing on top. It swiped it's paw at them but could not reach and gave up.Three younger mountain lions rough housed inside, biting at each other playfully.

More dark trees came and black vultures perched on the twisted branches. Another mountain lion was on a tree but ignored them. It got lighter again and a whole bunch of wild, gobbling turkeys sat in a group.

A dirty, white mountain goat bleated as it balanced up high on a rock. The cliff had come back and they were once again wary of its edge.

A small gray animal was walking right on the small edge of the cliff right below this one.

"That's the armadillo!" Skylar exclaimed.

"What so important about it?" Andrew asked.

"Stop." Skylar ordered the train. "That is the armadillo that Walt placed there himself because he felt it was too empty in that spot."

" I've never heard of that story. Somehow we've got to find the cast member entrance." Andrew surprisedly said.

"You mean down there? Where the 6,000 foot drop is?" She remembered nervously.

"Yeah down there."

Wind gusts blew so hard Skylar felt that that was what was going to make them fall. They were creeping slowly along the edge of the cliff and trying not to slip on the red dust.

Skylar misplaced her step and slipped causing a small avalanche. They heard the rocks clatter down the canyon and it echoed loudly. Andrew gripped the edge behind them and they still inched along too cautious to breathe.

A mountain goat nibbled at Skylar's hair but she made no sudden movements, not wanting to cause a landslide. There was much tension as they finally neared the wall.

Both pressed themselves to the wall because there was nothing to hold onto any more. They felt for a door or any crevasses but found nothing.

"There's only one way to go, down, again." Andrew said eyeing the drop off.

"One problem with that. There is only a microscopic ledge between us and certain death, so no I opt out that decision." Skylar said half sarcastic, half deadly serious.

"Well what do you suggest?"

"I- I don't know." She stuttered.

"Ill go down then and you can just stay here and wait." Andrew compromised finally.

"Ok, I guess." She said.

Andrew scooted to the edge, placed his foot over the side and barely stepped on the small ledge below. Sighing with relief he made his way down to the "microscopic ledge" as Skylar put it.

It was scarcely enough for his feet to fit side by side and if he were to look down, which he resisted, Andrew would have seen the nauseating drop. Instead looking to his left the wall now had a door and as he pulled it open pieces of the canyon came off.

Stretching to reach inside he jumped. He grabbed the door jam, holding his balance as Andrew walked into the room. Another cast member backstage room was all it was.

He had find something on the armadillo to prove to everyone and came up with something even better. There were old black and white photos of when Walt first opened the Grand Canyon.

Andrew climbed back out and was once again on that narrow ledge. This time he faced the wall and began to climb. Skylar saw Andrew's hand grasp the cliff edge in front of her and he pulled himself up.

"I got it." He said setting the photos on the ground.

"Wow. That's so cool. What are they of?" She asked studying the photos.

"The picture on the left is opening day of the Grand Canyon and that's Walt standing by the sign." Skylar nodded and he went on. " This other picture is of Walt talking to a boy who participated in the opening ceremony."

"Walt looks so happy." She commented.

"He was. Walt loved trains, remember?" He asked.

"Yeah." Skykar smiled to herself but Andrew saw it before she looked away.

They sat at the edge of the cliff when a goat bleated out. Although looking around they saw no goat.

A ear-splitting shrill rang out above their heads and a giant orange thing swooped down. With a wingspan of 35 feet you can imagine how large this thing was. The goat was dropped and it clambered up the rocks to safety.

The shrill had upset the balance on the cliff and rocks began to slide. The whole ledge that they were on began to crumble all at once. Skylar jumped back but Andrew wasn't so quick.

He fell with the cliff as it dismantled from the rest but Skylar did not see this for the orange thing dove down and picked her up.

It's talons clenched her arms tightly and carried her out.

And with a bleat the goat gladly walked off.
