11 (part 1): Small World Holiday
"It's a Small World after all. It's a Small World after all. It's a Small World after all. It's a small, small world. It's a world of laughter a world of---"
"Does that song ever get stuck in your head?" Andrew asked all of a sudden.
"All the time!" Skylar exclaimed, remembering the times she had sung that song in her head.
They had arrived at their first holiday detour, Small World Holiday. Every inch of the massive building was covered in lights of all different colors. As they entered bells chimed melodiously above that were hanging down over the entry way.
Zero swooped after them and circled around their legs from time to time when he was feeling particularly happy.
The song that often 'got stuck' in ones head was playing loudly in the air. Rather than in a boat, they walked into the North Pole. Like always this ride was the coldest but the snow made it worse.
Shimmering white snowflakes fell from the sky as they walked through the snow. Off to their left, two Eskimos sat atop of an iceberg fishing, and right now a walrus and seal were taunting them by taking all the bait. On the right, was Scandinavia, with the ice skaters and singers.
This was the ride with all ethnicities incorporated and each country was very different. Since this was the holiday version of things Santa workshop was also in the distance of the North Pole. His voice could be heard loudly reading the list of all the nice and naughty kids.
None of this took them by surprise as Skylar and Andrew walked into the next room. They were still in Europe and Scandinavia. Reindeer grazed up on the hilltops and folk dancing was happening right in front of them.
They continued on still, finding themselves in Denmark. Large toy soldiers dressed in red played their trumpets loud at Tivoli Gardens.
Next was England with their candle lit trees. Then France which was brightly shining from a giant '2016!' sign and the Eiffel Tower.
"Bonne année!" Skylar called out to the can can dancers.
"You know French?" Andrew asked in surprise.
"Un peu."
Bagpipes started playing as they went into Scotland. The Tartan castles stood high and a highland cow held a nice and naughty list.
After that the rest of Europe including Ireland, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Germany, Italy and Switzerland had there representations as well.
Now into Asia they began to talk.
"So we're going to have to go through this again? Skylar asked.
"Around the world in particular, but yes I think so." Andrew answered in reply.
"Why me? Couldn't someone else do this?" She sighed already thinking negative again.
"I'm here too," he reminded her. "And things could be worse."
"They have been worse."
They made it to India for flying carpets swooped in the air. One of them held Jasmine and Aladdin, in there 'a whole new world' moment.
Zero flew among them swirling and gliding not in the blue sky. The air was dry and the sun was hot. Veiled dancers did a certain dance up on a temple while they two walked among the dunes of sand.
"This isn't so bad," Skylar said after a while. "But I'm not going back where he is from." She added, referring to Zero.
Through Thailand, Bali, Indonesia, Israel, and Arabia they went, observing the different cultures with little interest. Snake charmers and Taj Mahal, temples and flying carpets, you name it it was all here.
Past Greece, Russia and Korea they entered Japan, China as fireworks blazed in the sky. Lanterns hung everywhere, kites in the sky and fireworks exploded with a boom. Cart streamers, water buffalo and Mount Fuji were from Japan. The panda, the Great Wall and acrobats were part of China.
It was Chinese New Year, fireworks cracked and kites flew. A giant Mushu kite danced in the air and was held by Mulan. They went under a red bridge where two concubines bowed and lights flashed.
"Happy New Year." Andrew turned to Skylar.
She looked at him with a confused look on her face. He smiled at her as more fireworks went of in the sky making siren like-sounds. They were so close, she could feel his breath in the cold night air.
Zero began to bark, they were no longer in China and it was no longer cold. Africa's hot muggy atmosphere shocked them into realizing where they were now.
A snake coiled around a tinsel tree and frogs chirped as they jumped into a pond. In the middle of a jungle they began to walk slowly again, watching the zebras, elephants, hyenas, rhinoceros, and other animals frolic around in tropical forest.
Natives sang and beat on drums. A trio of musicians played foreign instruments, a few on the tusks of an elephant. Hippos sunk back in the water as Skykar and Andrew passed by.
Simba, Timon, and Pumba were also among everything, in their own little world. Birds chirped and everyone sang along to the same song.
The last thing they saw were tall giraffes peeking out over the tree tops, as the two pushed through some vines and found themselves in the middle of a fiesta.
Bells rang again, and 'Feliz Navidad' was called out as people danced to the mariachi music. Now with the song in Spanish the two didn't understand a word but the other people there were having a blast. Piñata me of every shape and size hung about. Even the three cabelleros were there, shaking maracas.
Past that, a wave of water washed over them and let's just say Ariel and Nemo were there, singing as well. They washed up on the shore of a beach.
"Mele Kalakimaka!" Called a little girl dressed in a red dress with white flowers. She was surfing out on a wave with this dog-looking blue thing.
"Stitch." Skylar commented, out of breath.
Hula girls danced by them, swaying their hips back and forth. Carvings of each reindeer were stuck in the sand and a wooden Santa held up a sign in Hawaiian. Waves splashed up on shore and poinsettias somehow grew out of the sand.
Into a painted hut they walked and were transported to the last place of the world. Now in California/ the country side, farmland and mountain range were all part of the scenery.
"Is this the closest were going to get to getting 'back' ?" Skylar asked quietly.
"We will get 'back'. Technically we are in California." Andrew replied.
"Kind of."
To their left a giant farm was all decked out for Christmas. They had made trees out of the corn stalks and strung popcorn garland around them. Wreaths hung on the fence and they even made snowmen out of wagon wheels holding pitchforks.
On the right was the Wild West. Out of the sand, gophers popped in and out of a hole wearing Santa hats. There was cactus everywhere and a huge cactus tree with a sheriffs star on top. Tall orange mountains inhabited several cowboys that were practicing their lassoing. Indians carried a beaded garland of their own and several dream catchers.
Woody riding Bullseye and Jessie next to them were also on the wide plain. In the distance though, in front of them, were the lights of Hollywood. Spotlights waved around from the busy city and the shadow of a sleigh pulled by eight tiny reindeer flew in the sky.
The different scenery altogether looked strange but the two were used to it by now.
"Ho, ho holidays, and a Happy New Year!" Called out the sleigh from up above.
"I think we're done here." Andrew said quietly as everything melted away.
"Now jungle cruise?" Skylar questioned nervously.
"Jingle Cruise."
