10: The Christmas version of things
"What do you think?"
"Of what?"
Andrew paused, thinking of the answer carefully. "Life."
"That's a pretty vague question." Skylar worded slowly, trying to see what he was getting at.
"It can be a pretty vague answer." He replied.
"What do you really want to know?"
"I want to know what you think."
"I think-- I think you're, annoying." She stifled a laugh as he shook his head.
"If I'm so annoying, why do you talk to me? Huh?"
"Okay, now you're just running out of things to say." Skylar looked away from him.
"Am I?" Andrew said looking innocent.
"Either that or you're avoiding what you really want to say." She realized.
"What's it to you?" He played along.
"So there is something and this something has to do with--?" Skylar paused studying him. "Me?"
"Possibly."
Skylar fingered her hair as some of it fell in front of her face. She looked away from him but was in deep thought.
The train ran on the tracks noisily and the whistle blew loudly, just for effect. The shiny, light brown benches they sat on gleamed with the glossy coat painted onto them as the wind traveled through the train cars.
Then the train just stopped. It was still stuck in that same weird blur of colors but it was evident they had stopped moving.
"Why did you pick Adventure Land anyway?" Andrew said at last.
"I don't know, it was just the closest, I guess." She responded, watching the blur of colors just sit there.
"And what ride, in particular?" He said trying to figure out their unexpected stop.
She shrugged silently.
"You don't know much, do you?" He joked while keeping a straight face.
Skylar scoffed, slightly smiling although Andrew couldn't see it. "It's just looking for a destination but since you didn't decide--"
She was cut off as the train began to move again.
"Did you tell it something?" Andrew asked.
"No, how strange."
"Well wherever we're going, lets hope it will help us get out of here."
"Yeah, I just wonder where." Skylar puzzles for a moment but then forgot all about it as she said a question out of the blue.
"Let me ask you this. What is the first thing you're going to do when we get out?"
He thought for a minute then answered.
"You know what we have to do; save Walt's name. Although, I'll tell you what I'd do right before we get out."
"What? What are you going to do?" Skylar looked at him with curiosity.
"If I told you, you might not believe me." Andrew said smugly.
"Fine then, be that way." She said nonchalantly.
"Well what are you going to do?" Andrew said avoiding what he really wanted to say.
"I'm going to-- New Orleans, just like you suggested." Skylar smiled remembering when they first met.
"Oh, that... Okay, I'll come too. If you don't mind."
"I don't."

"Larsen?"
"Yeah that's my last name." Andrew said bashfully.
"Well I'm Skylar Addison."
"Nice to meet you."
She laughed. "You want to know something odd?"
"What could be odder than this place?" He smirked.
"I feel like I've known you all my life."
Andrew paused a moment. "But we've only just met!"
"I told you it was odd."
"Quite a peculiar thing at that." He responded in a funny accent.
"How do you feel?" Skylar asked cautiously.
"I feel like I never want to take my eyes off you."
Silence fell on them for a minute long. Neither looked away but then Skylar saw something and cleared her throat.
"Well unfortunately, you must. We're here." She responded in a whisper noticing the train had stopped. With out another word she stood up and stepped out.
They were not at Adventure Land but rather at the castle on the end of Main Street. Everything was centered around the Walt statue and only the Walt statue. The castle was a haze in the distance and everything else faded about to a surrounding black cloud.
They were brought here on purpose and Skylar knew it. She approached the metal figure eagerly instead of cautiously like the first time.
The bronze statue stepped out of the flower bed with ease and towered over them as he stood on the ground. His tall figure was an erie one but his facial expression said other wise.
"Hello children." He said in a bold voice that sounded somehow like metal.
"Why are we here this time?" Skylar cut right to the chase.
Andrew walked up beside her and looked up at the statue.
"The train was redirected here in order for me to tell you guys something." The statue said slowly, pausing between words.
"What? What is it?" Andrew said on edge, feeling like it was more bad news.
"Well, for you guys to leave this place you must 'ride' all the rides."
"We know, what's your point?" Skylar said nervously.
"You also must 'ride' the different versions of that ride." The statue finished.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Andrew replied hastily.
"It's time for you to do the Christmas version of things."
"Wait, let me get this straight." Skylar said after a minute. "There are three rides that are turned into a holiday theme. There's Small World Holiday, Jingle Cruise and----. No, no no no! We are not doing this." She backed up slowly, adrenaline building inside of her.
Andrew looked at the statue for answer.
"To finish what she was saying. There is Small World Holiday, Jingle Cruise and, Haunted Mansion Holiday."
Suddenly from behind the statue a small white figure flew from behind him. Skylar screamed ready to run back to the train but Andrew stopped her.
"It's okay." He whispered in her ear trying to console her.
Their last experience at the Mansion had left Skylar aghast. It was a place she would rather not go back to, ever again.
She looked frantically around pulling away from him but Andrew shook her by the shoulders trying to get her to snap out of it.
"That thing, it's from there too." Skylar whispered in terror.
"Hey, look at me." Andrew said softly. "We can get through this." He glanced back to see the white thing. "Skylar, it's just Zero."
He let go of her and bent down to see the little white ghost dog with the red collar. The dog's pumpkin nose lit up as the canine smiled. It barked playfully at him and flew a flew circles around him before stopping.
"He is to be your helper." Walt's statue called out to them.
"No way. No! We are not going back there." Skylar ordered Andrew.
"We don't have a choice." Andrew looked at the statue. "Right?"
"That is correct, this is something you must do. It's not a question." The statue said firmly. "Zero will guide you."
The ghost dog floated over to Skylar slowly, whimpering at her. Zero cocked his head and flickered his orange nose at her with curiosity. She cautiously held out her hand and brushed his back. Her hand went through him like thin air but the dog didn't seem to notice. Zero was thrilled that Skylar said hi to him and flew around in excitement, barking cheerfully.
"How is Zero going to help, exactly?" She said skeptically.
"You can do it alone if you--"
"No, that's okay. The dog can come." Skylar said quickly and Andrew stifled a laugh.
"Is that all?" Andrew asked.
"Yes, you two stood continue if you ever what to get out of here." The metal figure responded.
"Yeah, thanks." He replied briefly. Andrew whistled for Zero to follow them as he guided Skylar back to the train.
"So I'm assuming we should not go to the Mansion first. Right?" Andrew said as the train began to move.
"Right."
"Small World?"
"Yes."
"You okay?"
"No."
"There might be mistletoe."
"I'm a bit better."
Zero barked in agreement and curled up in a wisp on the floor.
Andrew concluded where they were headed. "Okay then, let's go."
