Chapter 5 - Survival test

This chapter will be oh so different. I realized what I wrote here made NO SENCE. Frist, I wrote Alison was sure she didn’t make it, then suddenly she took a bell the first hit? No. So yeah, it changes a lot since it seemed a bit off when I read it. I hope this is better.

I arrived to the training grounds very late, but still before Kakashi, and of course, I had completely dismissed Kakashi’s instructions and ate breakfast.

"You're late!" Sakura and Naruto said as I appeared.

"Shush!" I muttered, "Kakashi is still not here so I’m actually on time."

I dropped in the floor and waited patiently for Kakashi’s arrival.

"Why is he so late?" Sakura asked.

"Well, it’s probably just a black cat..." I said smirking.

"Why would it be a black cat?" Naruto asked confused.

Kakashi-sensei appeared and Sakura and Naruto pointed accusing fingers at him.

"Morning everyone, ready for your first day?" Kakashi asked.

"You're late!" Naruto and Sakura shouted.

"Well, a black cat crossed my path, so I had to take the long way..."

"No way!" Sakura said as she looked at me wide eyed.

"I told you so!" I sang mockingly. Then turned to Kakashi and smiled, "Hello there Kakashi-sensei!"

"Well, let's get started. The alarm is set for noon. The assignment is very simple, you just have to take this bells from me, that's all there is to it."

"Yeah right... simple..." I muttered shaking my head. Of course it's not simple.

"If you can't get them by noon you go without lunch. You'll be tied to a post and watch as I eat mine in front of you," Kakashi said.

"Wait a minute," Sakura said. "There's four of us. How come there's only three bells?"

"Well, that's actually obvious pinkette. That way one of us will have to be tied to a post and has to go back to the academy," I muttered. "Interesting strategy Kakashi-sensei."

"Yeah," he said as he did his closed eye smile. "Then again, all four of you could be disqualified. You can use any weapons, but let me tell you, if you're not prepared to kill me you won't be able to take the bells."

"But those weapons are dangerous sensei!" Sakura said, as if he didn't already know that.

"Especially since you couldn't even dodge that eraser!" Naruto said.

"Class clowns are the weakest links, you can safely ignore them. Lowest scores... losers. When I say start you can begin."

Naruto lost control making me sweat drop as Kakashi easily dodged his attack and held him. Naruto gets offended pretty fast.

"Naruto... he's a jounin!" I said as I shook my head in disapproval.

"Well, you came at me with the full intention of destroy... so... how can I say this? I'm actually starting to like you guys." Kakashi said.

"By you, he means you three." I said smiling. "He already liked me, right Kakashi-sensei? Oh, why do I even ask? Of course yes!"

"Get ready... and... Start!" Kakashi said, completely dismissing my comment.

I watched as Sasuke went into hiding up a tree, and Sakura by a bush, so I decided to hide as well.

"You and me, right now, fair and square!"I heard Naruto shout.

"Geez Naruto," I said as I looked at him. I jumped up a tree to have a better look and ended up right next to Sasuke.

"Okay, listen here duck-butt," I muttered. "I don’t particularly like you and stuff... but what do you say we team up against Kakashi, and help Naruto? We must also find the pinkette before she does something stupid..."

"You'll only slow me down," Sasuke answered, still looking at Naruto and Kakashi.

"Idiot," I muttered as I jumped from my tree.

"Need some help Naruto?" I asked happily as I smiled at him.

"NO! I can take him alone! Believe it!" Naruto shouted as he attacked Kakashi.

"Naruto! Don't ask me to believe the impossible!" I shouted, but just then Kakashi did his 'super attack', and sent Naruto flying. "Geez, why is he so... Naruto!"

I saw as he threw his weapons at Kakashi, who easily caught them. Then I helped him out of the water.

"Naruto, don't be so stubborn! I'll help you!" I said as he stood up.

"No Ali-chan! I can take him!" Naruto said.

He went again and attacked with his clones, catching him from behind, but Kakashi switched places with one of Naruto’s many clones, leading Naruto to believe Kakashi had transformed to him, and Naruto ended up beating himself. Then he went for a bell he thought Kakashi had dropped, and ended up hanging from a tree.

"Naruto!" I shouted angrily. "If the trap is obvious you shouldn't take the bait!"

I went to help him, but Kakashi blocked my path.

"Want to fight me too, Alison?" Kakashi asked as he picked the bell.

"Not really," I answered shaking my head. "I'm not stupid Kakashi-sensei, I know defeating you with no help is nearly impossible... I might have a good chance at maybe touching a bell, but I’d have to be pretty sneaky to be able to get one… Sounds like a challenge… Besides, Sasuke denied my sweet offer for help, I haven't found Sakura... and Naruto is tied up... I'm pretty much uncovered... so I a fight wouldn’t be bad. I can test my skills.”

Kakashi looked slightly surprised but he hid it well. "Exactly."

"Well then... Just one last try. SAKURA, IF YOU'RE LISTENING AND YOU WANT TO TEAM UP, COME OUT!" I yelled. I waited but there was no reply. I really hate that girl. "Yeesh pinkette! I even called you by your name! I know you're listening you traitor!"

(Sakura thought "As if I'll team up with HER!")

"Fine Kakashi-sensei," I muttered annoyed. "Guess I have no choice."

I smirked. A good thing about this is I know Kakashi sensei underestimates me at the moment. Meaning, I might actually catch him by surprise. Problem is I only get one chance, because you cannot surprise Kakashi-sensei two times once he is not underestimating you. Thankfully, I knew this could've happened so I had of course set up clones before going to help Naruto.

I looked at my clone standing in front of Kakashi by my hiding place. Yeah, my clone is in front of Kakashi, not me, I'm safely hidden, for now.

I watched as my clone ran at Kakashi, and they started fighting.

"Now!" My clone yelled, and all of the clones came out, of course I stayed hidden, I'm not making the same mistake as Naruto...

Kakashi smirked and easily defeated all my clones making me scowl. He knew all along.

“You couldn’t expect me to fall for that,” He said as he looked around wearily. So he can’t sense were I am…

"Fire Wolfves Jutsu!" I whispered as I did the hand signs, and Kakashi was surrounded by 10 fire wolves. I only did ten since I'm trying to keep my chakra. Of course the wolves were only a distraction. Hopefully this works…

I jumped from the tree and silently made my way to Kakashi-sensei, who was finishing the last wolf bored.

I ran to Kakashi from behind with my kunai at hand, of course he turned just in time, and sent me back a few meters.

"Hello Kakashi-sensei!" I said happily as I waved. "I bet you're now regretting ever saying girls my age only care about boys huh?"

I could almost see him smirk as he looked at me. Good, he still underestimates me.

"Now you're weak Alison, you used your chakra," He said.

"Not really," I smiled. Of course that’s part lie; I am weaker, but not weak. "I could do a few more wolves, but it's boring if I don't do anything."

I put my kunai in my boot and decided I would have to make him underestimate me even more. I have to make him really believe I am weak. I ran at Kakashi from the front, and he easily pushed me back a few feet. I cried out to pretend to be hurt and took time to stand up. I glared and ran at him again, this time slower and messier, throwing a punch badly. He easily stopped it with his fist and held me in place.

“You are pretty good with jutsus, but no physical strength at all,” he said smiling. “You should train more.”

“Sometimes stealth is more important,” I said suddenly smirking. I hate he thinks I’m weak, but it works for now. Kakashi’s brows barely had time to furrow as I got out of his hold and grabbed two bells, quickly kicking him away a few feet. Damn, I missed one!

"Another thing Kakashi," I said walking backwards. "Don't underestimate your opponents."

Then I knew he would probably go and fight Sasuke, but I heard a high pitched scream.

"You're a clone!" I shouted outraged.

"No I’m not," Kakashi said. "Not now. I was before the wolves, since I was fighting Sasuke. Right now I'm me."

Thank God, I thought the bells would disappear!

"Well... I have to go help the idiot. Bye Kakashi-sensei!" I waved, showing him the bells that I tied to my wrist.

"H-how-?" He asked as he checked and true, he only had two more bells.

"I told you! Stealth is very important," And with that I disappeared into the forest to find Sasuke, leaving a shocked Kakashi behind.

"Well, hello Duckbutt!" I said as I spotted his head coming out of the ground, since the rest of his body was underground. "Oh, so pinkette already fainted... Want my help now?"

Sasuke looked away angry.

"If you don't ask for it I'm not helping," I muttered as I sat besides Sakura.

"Fine. Could... could you help me?" he said through gritted teeth.

"Of course!" I said as I grabbed Sasuke's hair and pulled him out.

He rubbed his head but said nothing.

He woke Sakura up and once he got her to stop hugging him, he stood up.

"Well even thought you are both traitors, I once again offer my help. You can't defeat Kakashi by yourselves," I said. Mostly because there was no time, even if we teamed up it’d be no use.

"I already touched one bell, this time, I'll get it." Sasuke said.

"There's not enough time, so maybe we should just give up and try again next year!" Sakura said.

"Idiot," I muttered shaking my head. Can’t Sakura see Sasuke really wants this?

"I'm the only one, who can destroy that person." Sasuke said.

I scowled as I turned away. Idiots, all of them are damned idiots.

"What, you mean the sensei?" Sakura asked stupidly.

"That day I was crying... it was my... I am an avenger, that means I must be stronger than my pray-"

"Shut up!" I growled. "Just shut up Sasuke!"

Sakura and Sasuke looked at me shocked. The alarm suddenly rang.

"I wasted too much time!" Sasuke said as he walked away.

“Wait!” I said stopping them both.

Sakura glanced at me but Sasuke kept walking, so Sakura soon followed. UGH. I followed behind them fuming. I silently stopped as Sasuke and Sakura stood by a tied up Naruto. I put the bells behind my hand and copied one of them in a clone.

Everyone's stomachs, except mine, growled. I smirked, but made my way to my team.

"Oh-uh, Stomachs growling that's too bad. Oh, by the way, about this exercise, I won't send any of you back to the academy"

"What? I passed, all I did was faint and fall over... you get points for that?" Sakura asked stupidly.

"That means all four of us-?" Naruto started.

"Well, three of you are being dropped from the program." Kakashi announced. "Permanently."

"Drop us from the program? You said we were to go back to the academy! You can't change your mind!" Naruto said outraged. “And what do you man three?”

"Because you don't think like ninja, you think like little kids, like brats." Kakashi said, and Sasuke went at him, but of course, he stopped him simply. So Sasuke was now on the floor, and Kakashi’s feet was in his head.

"All you think is of you! You don't know what it means to be a ninja!" Kakashi said. "You think it's a game huh? Why do you think we put you on teams? Did you consider that for one moment? "

"I don't know what you mean!" Sakura said confused.

"I mean you didn't realize what this exercise is all about. Not even close."

"What it's about?" Naruto asked.

"Yes. That's what determined whether you pass or fail. Use your heads, four people on a team. Why do you think we would do that?"

"How are we supposed to know-"

“Teamwork,” I said simply.

"Exactly, if all four of you would've come at me you might have been able to take... more of them." Kakashi muttered as he looked at me.

“But it would lead to a team conflict-“

"That's what he wanted," I said calmly, interrupting Sakura. "To put us against each other. He wanted to see if we could put the squad ahead of ourselves."

"Yes, A genin should have a natural instinct for teamwork, but you, it never even crossed your mind. Sakura, you obsessed about Sasuke who was gone while Naruto was right in front of you and you wouldn't even help him, just as when Alison was trying to help Naruto and you didn't help her either. Naruto, you do everything on your own, Alison offered you help various times and you declined. And you Sasuke, thought the other were so far beneath you that they were worthless. And Alison, you actually did good, you offered to help even Sasuke and Sakura, who you don’t like… Anyway, you should all know that when individuals put themselves before their team it leads to death. For example, Sakura kill Naruto now or Sasuke dies. If Alison wants to save Naruto, she can kill Sakura, but Sasuke will die as well."

Everyone looked away. A decision I hope I never have to make.

"On every mission, your life is on the line." Kakashi said. He let go of Sasuke, who made his way over to us.

He then talked about the KIA stone, but I didn't pay attention. What would I have done in a situation like that? Would I have really done something stupid? How could anyone choose? Too hard to think about it now.

“But actually Kakashi, I’m the only one being dropped out,” I said simply.

“Huh?” Naruto said with a huge question mark in his head. I threw one bell at Sakura who barely caught it surprised, one towards Naruto, which landed in his head, and one towards Sasuke, which he easily caught.

“You all pass,” I said simply. “They got the bell.”

Kakashi stood up surprised.

“Well I guess…” he started, but then stopped, his eye narrowing. “One of those is a fake.”

I narrowed my eyes sighing, “Yeah it is.”

I snapped my fingers and Sakura’s bell disappeared.

“What?!” she exclaimed.

“There, they pass,” I said simply.

“Sakura-chan also needs this bell! You can’t take it away,” Naruto said horrified.

“I just did,” I said simply. Please Naruto, think!

"But you only had three bells," Sakura exclaimed glaring at Kakashi, tears brimming her eyes. "It’s not fair!”

“Sakura…” Naruto said looking down, tears in his eyes. “Take my bell.”

“Huh?” Sakura said surprised.

“I cheated, I am tied to a post for trying to eat,” he explained making me smile. “Have my bell.”

“T-Thanks,” Sakura said taking it and looking at it weirdly.

“Hn,” Sasuke said extending the bell towards me, making me smirk. “I don’t want your bell.”

“Thank’s Sasuke,” I said taking it. “But I still want Naruto to pass.”

Sakura was now conflicted. If she gave the bell to Sasuke, she wouldn’t be able to graduate with him, but if she didn’t Sasuke wouldn’t get to be a ninja now.

“Sasuke,” Sakura said extending her arms blushing. “You’re stronger! Take the bell!”

“But SAKURA;” Naruto said shouting.

“See,” I told Kakashi, “They’re ready!”

“Just one last proof,” he whispered frowning. “Don’t help them.”

"Alright," Kakashi said, making us all stop arguing about the bells and turn to Kakashi. "I will give you another chance. But you'll only have three hours this time. Eat up lunch now to build up strength, but Naruto doesn't get any. It's your punishment for breaking the rules and trying to eat by yourself. And if anyone tried to feed him, that person would immediatley fail. I make the rules, you follow them, got it? Alison, come."

Kakashi and I left and hid our chakra, watching them as they started to eat.

Sasuke sighed as he looked at his luch, and Naruto’s stomach grumbled. With a scowl, he extended his lunch towards Naruto.

“Eat,” he ordered.

"Wh- You'll fail!" Sakura said wide-eyed.

“He needs the energy, besides, Kakashi is nowhere near us, and he’s probably distracted talking with Alison,” Sasuke replied easily.

Sakura looked at hhim in admiration, and then at her own lunch.

“Take mine too, I’m on a diet anyway,” she said to Naruto.

“But you have to feed me! I can’t move my hands!”

“THIS IS ONE TIME ONLY!” Sakura said as she started to feed a happy Naruto.

Suddenly it happened, Kakashi did his super entrance.

"YOU!" he shouted, "You broke the rules. I hope you're ready for the punishment."

Dark clouds gathered in the skies as he did hand signs. "Any last words?"

They did the super cute moment declaring we were a team and blah blah.

"Kakashi," I sighted. "Just tell them already."

"Fine, fine... You pass." Kakashi said.

"Huh?"

"You. Pass."

"What do you mean? What did we do?" Sakura asked.

"Seriously? You acted as a team! Duh!" I said annoyed. "You should feel proud, we're the first team that passes his tricks."

"Exactly," Kakashi said. "In a ninja world those who break the rules are scum... but those who abandon their friends, are worse than scum."

"He's kind of cool..." Naruto said.

"The exercise it's over. Everyone passes. Team seven starts his first mission tomorrow!" Kakashi said, giving us a thumbs up. "Now, Alison, I really want to talk to you."

Everyone left (I had to untie Naruto) and I stayed in the floor.

"How did you do it?" Kakashi asked still turned around.

"What?" I said tilting my head.

"You knew they’d do that. I get you got the bells because I underestimated you, you were surprisingly able to trick me to believing you were weaker, and that was my mistake. I wasn’t paying full attention; I didn’t think I needed too. That I do get. But how could you know they’d demonstrate they could actually be a team with only two bells?” he said as he turned to me.

“I didn’t,” I sais sincerely. “I meant to take the three bells and make them all pass. I didn’t really mind being dropped out or taken back to the academy. But when I got only two bells, I had to reason. If I kept one bell, depending on whom I gave the other it could all be over. But if I gave them to both Sasuke and Naruto, it would be perfect. Naruto would notice Sakura was devastated because she wants to be with Sasuke, and being Naruto, would give it up. Sasuke is very proud so knowing I gave up both bells instead of keeping one would make him feel like I pitied him, and he would return it to me. And Sakura would be between getting to be a ninja, or letting Sasuke, her ‘love’, fulfill his dream. That’s what I expected, and luckily, it turned out like that.”

."You... You are very smart for a genin,” Kakashi said surprise.

"You only think that because you don’t know Shikaramu,” I said smiling. “But thanks I guess.”

"Well then," he said smiling. "See you later Princess Akira!"

"Kakashi!" I said as I slapped his arm. "I'm not princess Akira. Stop using that to tease me."

"Sorry kiddo," He said as he did his closed eye smile. "It's fun to tease you."

I smiled as I headed home. Don't think wrong, I only think of Kakashi as an annoying big brother... a cool annoying big brother.
