Sparrow and SHIELD

"You did WHAT?!"

There were few things in life that Tony Stark was scared of. An angry Pepper Potts was one of them. So was an angry Natasha Romanoff.

Apparently, an angry Jemma Simmons was one of them, too. "We don't know where they went," he tried to tell her as she fumed angrily. "Simmons, I'm sorry, I really am, but they did the whole crash bang save the world thing, but then they were gone."

"And they were right in front of you," Jemma muttered, shaking her head and pacing back and forth as Coulson and May did investigating around her, Fitz asking around. "Don't you want the Doctor to pay?"

"Of course!" Tony exclaimed. "Bruce and I both do!"

"Then do you have any idea who the blonde woman is? What her name is?"

For a second, Tony was tempted to tell Jemma her friend really was alive. But then he remembered the look on her face as she talked about everything she had suffered since Canary Wharf. So, instead, he said, "Johanna Rossini."

Jemma sighed. "We still need to find a match on that name," she whispered angrily before nodding curtly to him. "Thank you."

Tony blew out a breath and joined Bruce, who was waiting by the limo they were taking to the airport. "Did you tell them?" he asked.

"No," Bruce replied. "But Agent Simmons is scary. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Joneses said anything."

"Let's hope not," Tony muttered, getting into the limo. "Or else I know someone who would kill us."

"Mum, really," Tish tried to tell her mother as she paced back and forth, Leo still sitting on the steps, "I'm sure Martha is fine!"

"She's not answering her home phone," Francine replied frantically. "And I don't know where she is!"

"Excuse me?"

Francine looked up to see a man in a suit standing there. "Yes?" she asked.

"Agent Phil Coulson, of SHIELD," he introduced himself, showing him his badge. "If you don't mind, ma'am, I'd like to ask a few questions."

"Do you know where my daughter is?" Francine demanded.

"Mum!" Tish hissed.

"Your daughter?" asked a British woman nearby, who then walked over, an interested look on her face. "What's her name?"

"Martha," Francine replied. "Martha Jones."

The two spared a look, the woman looking excited. "This is Agent Jemma Simmons," Coulson introduced. "If I might ask, Mrs. Jones, was she by any chance associated with a man called the Doctor?"

"Yes!" Francine cried. "Yes! That's him!"

"We need you to tell us exactly what happened here tonight. Because if the Doctor was involved, something is going on."

Tish listened to her mother go on, but when she was about to say the Bad Wolf's name, she interrupted. "His friend was called Johanna Rossini. She was Australian, if that helps any."

Jemma looked at Coulson. "Mr. Stark said the same thing," she whispered.

"And she was with him at the hospital," Coulson whispered back before nodding to Francine. "If you hear anything from her, give us a call." He held out a card. "We have . . . personal business with the Doctor to take care of."

"If you don't mind me asking, sir, why?" Francine asked.

The look in Coulson's eyes darkened, and a fury took over Jemma's that would've made Tish run. "He got one of our best agents killed because she trusted him, and two more got caught in the crossfire," she spat. "Agent Jessie Nightshade, and Agents Saleen Harper and Skye."

"So what is it we're looking for?"

"They're Reapers," the Doctor explained, answering Martha's question as they drove in a taxi through London. "It's once in a while that an egg gets laid, and the migration of the Reapers is going to start soon. Therefore, that equals bad, and we need to stop them."

"What are Reapers, exactly?" Martha asked.

"If there's a paradox, the Reapers eat anything until the paradox is set right," Jessie explained as the taxi pulled up, and she swung her quiver over her shoulder. "Lucky I didn't try and save Coulson or Ward, then."

"Yeah, that would've been bad at the time," the Doctor remarked as they got out of the taxi, handing her a bow while shouldering his own. "We take them out, then we can head back to the TARDIS. Good?"

"Good," Jessie agreed.

They began to walk off when there was a shout behind them. "Doctor! Bad Wolf!"

Jessie turned, frowning as a young blonde woman ran up to them. "Hi?" she asked in confusion.

"Hello!" the Doctor said brightly, Martha walking a little ways down. "Sorry, bit of a rush. There's a sort of thing happening. Fairly important we stop it."

"My God, it's you," the woman breathed. "It really is you!" She turned to Jessie. "You don't remember me, do you?"

"Doctor, Bad Wolf, we don't have time for this!" Martha called. "The migration's started!"

"Look, sorry, we've got a bit of a complex life," Jessie apologized. "Things don't always happen to us in the right order."

"Gets a bit confusing at times, especially at weddings," the Doctor added before making a face. "I'm rubbish at weddings. Especially my own."

The woman's face lit up. "Hands," she told Jessie.

Jessie blinked. "What?"

The woman held out her hands, and frowning, Jessie did the same, turning them over. "Oh, my God," the woman whispered. "Of course! You're time travelers! It hasn't happened to you yet! None of it! It's still in your future!"

"What do my hands have to do with the future?" Jessie asked, and she could've sworn she saw the woman's gaze dart to her left hand.

"What hasn't happened?" the Doctor asked.

"Doctor! Please!" Martha shouted. "Twenty minutes to red hatching!"

"It was me!" the woman exclaimed. "Oh, for God's sake, it was me all along! You got it all from me!"

"Got what?" the Doctor asked.

"OK, listen." The woman took a deep breath, then began rattling off. "One day, you and Martha are going to get stuck in 1969, but the Bad Wolf stays behind. She's the one who helps me through it all somehow. Make sure you've got this with you. You're going to need it."

The Doctor took the file she handed him, when Martha shouted again. "Doctor!"

"Yeah, yeah, listen, got to dash. Things happening," the Doctor told her, turning to go, before correcting himself. "Well, four things. Well, four things and a lizard."

"Lizards and an egg," Jessie added. "Oh, and what was your name?"

She smiled. "Sally Sparrow."

"Good to meet you, Sally Sparrow," Jessie told her with a smile. "And I can't wait until we actually meet."

A man walked up behind her, then gaped at Jessie in shock. "But, you - !" he gasped.

Sally took his hand. "Goodbye, Doctor, Bad Wolf."

Jessie and the Doctor ran after Martha, and Jessie leaned in. "Did you find it weird she took a sudden interest in my hands?" she asked.

"Specifically the left one?" She nodded, and they caught up to Martha. "Queen Elizabeth mistook us for being married, too."

"But we hadn't met her yet," Jessie pointed out, wondering if it actually did happen, that Sally had been looking for some kind of ring.

"Well, I would say it's about time," Martha commented, and they stared at her. "You two need it."

"We're not - " the Doctor began.

Martha shook her head. "Come on!" she shouted, running ahead. "Hatching's ready to start!"

"Anything to report?" Coulson asked as he checked the video feeds.

From the Torchwood center, Captain Jack Harkness, Clint Barton, and Natasha Romanoff shook their heads. "No Rift activity lately, so the TARDIS hasn't dropped by," Jack replied. "Plus, I'd know."

"Nothing from Steve, either," Natasha added. "He's been going around searching for Bucky, but he hasn't found any trace of them."

Jemma groaned, putting her face in her arms. "I just want to snap his neck so he doesn't regenerate again," she growled.

"You'll get your chance, Simmons," Fitz assured her, patting her arm. "We will."

"So what do we do?" May asked. "Just wait for another sighting?"

"Until then, there's nothing more we can do," Coulson agreed before switching the feed off and looking at the news from Britain on Election Day. "But I must say . . . this Harold Saxon character is awfully interesting."

Martha was seriously ready to break something.

As soon as they'd gone back to the TARDIS after defeating the Reapers, the Doctor had closed off, babbling about something she couldn't understand. The Bad Wolf kept looking at him in sudden doubt, and Martha knew what it was.

Sally Sparrow.

Whatever that woman had told them, it had spooked both of them. The Weeping Angels were what apparently sent them back to 1969.

But the Bad Wolf hadn't been with them. And that had scared her, obviously.

But as Martha read through the packet, she saw subtle hints in the Easter egg the Doctor had recorded, alluding to knowing somehow that the Bad Wolf was there. She knew they had a telepathic connection, but would it really be that strong against time?

She groaned, leaning back against her bed and shaking her head. "Kill me now," she groaned.

As much as she loved her friends, she couldn't help but think they were two of the thickest people she knew.

And that was saying something.

So it's everyone who's known Jessie that's looking for the Doctor. *smirks* And Clint and Nat are near the Rift. And they're in the cast list. Hmm . . . ;)

"Here We Go Again" is definitely something I think of when I think of what the Doctor and Jessie are like at the beginning of this book. Not exactly like it, but I think it fits the book.

"42" will be coming up!
