12 The right thing

Roman POV

"Hi, Mom. How are you? Let me introduce you. This is Cassia. She's my new girlfriend." I said, sounding so nervous I thought I was going to start sweating.

"Nice to meet you, Ma'am." Cassia then said as she held out her hand.

"Oh hello, it's nice to meet you too. And if I may say so... What a pretty girl you are! Roman hasn't told me about you yet, unfortunately." Mom replied before giving me a meaningful look.

"Actually... I have... Remember the story about the coffee? That was her." then I said.

And it was true. I had told Mom about Cassia before I even knew her name. When I was backstage I had talked to her on the phone and I had mentioned that a beautiful woman had accidentally dumped her coffee on me.

"Oh my God! That was you? So you did indeed find her then. Good job, my boy. Why don't we go inside? What about all the stuff?" replied Mom.

"Well. We just wanted to be able to spend a lot of time together, so we thought it would be nice if Cassia stayed with me for a few weeks. That's why we got her work stuff. But on a different note... what are you doing here?" I asked when I couldn't stand it any longer.

"You forgot, didn't you? You wanted me to drive you to the mechanic to pick up your car. We talked about that yesterday at lunch. But now.... Cassia... what a beautiful name. What do you do for a living? I'm sorry, I know I'm nosy, but the look on Roman's face tells me you're very important to him and so I'd like to get to know you better." Mom babbled without taking a breath.

"Thank you, Ma'am. I guess that's okay... We were just about to make a snack. Would you like some coffee, maybe?" replied Cassia, sounding anything but confident.

"I'd love some. Roman. Why don't you take this wonderful creature's things inside? We'll be waiting for you." Mom said before she hooked her arm around Cassia's.

Then they waited at the door until I unlocked it. When they were out of sight I threw my head back and exhaled loudly. I then hurried to get the suitcase and some of the other stuff into the house so I could be at Cassia's side as fast as possible.

I didn't even want to imagine how overwhelming this situation must be for her. And there was no way I was going to leave her alone. I quickly followed the two into the kitchen and heard to my astonishment that they laughed loudly together.

I frowned in confusion. That couldn't mean anything good, could it?

But fortunately for me, it was nothing bad. Mom had just told her a funny story about my family.

After an hour I told Mom that we still had to pick up the car and that we had more plans. Cassia said goodbye to my mom. And Mom, being Mom, pulled her into her arms and gave her a hug before I escorted her to the door.

"A lovely girl you've found there, my boy." Mom said quietly to me as I held the door in my hand.

"I think so too. She's great and I like her a lot." I replied.

"I can see that. And she likes you a lot, too. That's why I hope you're doing the right thing, young man." Mom said, looking at me piercingly.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You know exactly what I mean." she replied, then gave me a little slap on the back of the head.

"This woman is pregnant and you know what the right thing to do is." she whispered.

"I... you... how?" I stuttered.

"Oh please. I'm an expert. But now have a great day, Baby." she said and then gave me a kiss on the cheek before walking to her car.

Oh gosh! Oh, that woman. I should have known that she would instinctively sense what was going on. And of course I knew what she meant by the right thing. Although I knew it was too early for that, I couldn't help but think about it.

But all that still had time. Now it was first important that we got to know each other better. And our first real date was a good start.

Cassia POV

"How did you do that? I thought you didn't have time to prepare anything?" I asked, puzzled, as we were escorted to a private room in a fancy restaurant.

The room had a magnificent view of the water as the sun slowly set, bathing everything in a warm, golden light. There were candles and red roses everywhere.

I was totally shocked by the sight, but in the best possible way. Never had a man done anything like that for me and certainly not on a first date.

"Oh this? It's nothing at all, baby girl. I was just calling in a favor. I hope you like it." he replied as he pulled the chair out for me.

"Are you kidding me? I love it, Roman. Thank you!" I replied.

"You're welcome." he said and was about to go around the table to sit down, but I grabbed his hand to stop him.

I pulled Roman down to me so I could give him a little kiss.

"I'm really grateful for you," I whispered.
