Chapter 73 - Chase

Chase's POV

From the corner of my eye, I see Diego once again glance down to the ring I got him and smile. He has been doing that the entire car ride. I've also caught him taking a photo of it and playing with it while wearing a soft smile. "Do you like it that much?" I mumble, as a smile graces my face.

"You caught me!" Diego chuckles. "I love it! It's perfect! Just like you!" He reaches over and ruffles my hair causing me to giggle.

We continue to listen to music, humming along to the songs as I drive us to the starting point of our hike. "We're here!" I announce a few minutes later, parking my brand new car in the paved parking lot.

The hiking trail which we're taking to the camping spot isn't heavily traversed since it's such a tiring trek. However, both Diego and I love exercising and are fit, so it should be doable.

I came here with Mason a few times when I was a teenager. It was a tiring trek, but the view was beautiful and I felt like I was free and on top of the world. However, I haven't been here recently, so I'm really hoping that I'm not remembering the view as better than it actually was.

We take the two hiking backpacks from the boot and I link hands with Diego, releasing a tiny giggle. I start walking towards the tall trees with orange, yellow and red leaves, and Diego follows.

The hike starts off easy, a casual walk through the sunset coloured forest, following the path cleared by previous hikers. Our hands remain intertwined since neither of us are sweating profusely from this leisurely, slightly uphill trek. We chat about exercise routines and the gym, enjoying the light exercise.

About halfway to our destination we start to feel the burn. I've taken us off the regular path because that's not where I saw the best view with Mason, I distinctly remember we veered a little to the left, so that's where I take Diego.

At this point, we've been walking uphill with heavy backpacks for about forty five minutes. Conversation is still flowing, but we are no longer holding hands. Every time I hear a noise in the fallen leaves around us, I think it's an animal and look around frantically in hopes of finding it, which causes Diego to laugh and coo every time. That of course makes me pout and I swear I won't do it again, yet I continue to search for animals every time I hear a rustling.

An hour and a half into our journey, the incline is getting steeper and the forest is getting denser. We're both panting and sweating buckets. The conversation is slowing down as we try not to waste our precious oxygen, saving it for trying to get us up this exhaustion inducing mountain!

"Little lamb, you know that I love you and would do anything for you, but are you trying to test that theory?" Diego says with a chuckle, his breathing rapid as he continues to push ahead.

"I don't remember it being this steep!" I exclaim, struggling to breathe just as much as he is. It feels like we're walking up a wall in sand, sliding backwards at the same rate that we're moving forward.

Another ten minutes later and I'm really starting to think that we're lost, and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. I stop walking, plop onto the floor and remove my backpack, panting as I try to catch my breath. "Let's just go back. I think I got us lost," I mumble sulkily, hugging my legs to my chest.

I wanted this to be fun, instead I've thrown us into what seems to be a trudge through hell. My head falls onto my knees and I try not to feel like an idiot. I should have just gone to a restaurant, instead of trying to find the stupid, pretty skyline.

A sweaty hand rests on my shoulders and I feel myself being pulled towards Diego. I oblige and snuggle with my very sweaty boyfriend. He rubs my back and kisses my equally sweaty temple. "Let's keep going! You said there was a beautiful skyline and a refreshing stream, so let's go see it!"

"But we're tired and sweaty and probably lost!" I mumble, feeling tears welling up in my eyes.

Diego's arms tighten around me. "We have GPS on our phones as well as two manual compasses and a map, we can find our way. So what if we're sweaty and tired, it will be worth it. Let's not give up, okay?"

I raise my head, still pouting and trying not to cry.

"Awwww look at my beautiful little lamb," he presses kisses all over my face, "please, can we keep going? I really want to see the view! Hmm?" He questions, peppering more kisses on my face. "Please! Please! Pretty please!" He whines with a pout and that finally makes me crack a smile. "Oh I see a smile! So beautiful!" Diego places several feather light kisses on my lips, until I'm grinning. "So we'll keep going?"

I giggle and nod. "I love you, DiDi, always and forever."

Diego smiles broadly before pecking my lips. "Always and forever, my sweaty little lamb!" I giggle and try to rub my sweat all over him which results in us laughing uncontrollably for a few minutes as Diego weakly deflects my attempts.

We gulp down some water and check the map before Diego helps me to my feet and we continue up the nightmarish hill.

About ten minutes later, I finally see a break in trees, which looks like a clearing, and I hear the sound of water. "Oh my gosh! DiDi look!" I yell, pointing towards it, using my last bit of energy to rush towards the clearing. I release an excited squeal when I burst out of the dense forest. "Wow," I breathe, looking around at the view.

"Wow indeed," Diego pants from right next to me.

The sun is setting over the horizon, casting a yellowish orange glow over the city spread out below us. This glow extends up into the sky, slowly starting to swallow the remaining blue in the sky, resulting in hints of green showing itself where the two colours collide. Puffy clouds, tinted gold are scattered along the skyline, few and far apart.

The outline of another mountain to the left can be seen, though it is partially obscured in the dimming light. Directly to the right of us, a few feet away, is the source of the water, an inviting brook flowing down the other side of the mountain, glistening and babbling as it flows.

Straight ahead of us we can see the city, the rise and fall of the buildings and the curves of the paved roads as well as the reddish orange leaves of the trees. A light comes on in the distance, followed by another and another as people slowly become aware of the setting sun. I drop my bag on the floor before taking in a deep breath, enjoying the clean air.

A gentle breeze caresses my skin and a smile spreads across my face as I watch more and more lights come on.

There is a soft touch on my hand and my gaze drifts downwards, finding Diego's hand slipping into mine. I interlock our hands and my eyes travel up his body taking in his wet shirt which is clinging to his body. He is wearing a warm smile, showing me his beautiful dimples. "This was worth the hike. It's breathtaking!" He kisses my hand before returning his gaze to the skyline.

We stand in silence for a few minutes, watching the sunset and the lights flickering on.

"We should pitch the tent before we lose all the natural light," Diego murmurs, rubbing circles on the back of my hand, and I hum a response.

This isn't the first time either of us have gone camping so the tent is pitched in five minutes flat. I unpack the food, blankets, and sleeping bags, placing them all in the tent, while Diego gathers firewood nearby.

"Should we take a dip in the stream, then eat?" Diego inquires and I nod.

I know the water will be cold but we're both in need of a bath. "Turn around!" I squeak, as Diego starts taking off his shoes.

Diego chuckles. "Do you know how many times I've seen you naked?" He raises an eyebrow and smirks. "112."

"You counted!!" I shriek, my face morphing into one of total shock, as my jaw drops.

Diego bursts out laughing. "No, but the look on your face was priceless!" I pout and hide behind the tent so that I can take off my clothes, since he's being difficult.

Once I'm finished, I dash into the water to get away from Diego's prying eyes, praying that no one else decides to come here to camp and sees me in my birthday suit. Diego of course notices me bolting towards the brook and whistles and coos, while I giggle and ignore him. As soon as I've paddled halfway into the chilly water, I close my eyes and submerge myself.

I stay under water for a few seconds, trying to get my body used to the new icy temperature. My head pops out of the water and I suck in a deep breath, keeping my eyes closed as I rub away some of the water.

I shriek again when I open my eyes and Diego is standing right in front of me. "Y-y-you scared me!" I stutter, not quite used to the temperature. He grins and a tiny giggle escapes me right before I attach myself to his lips to steal his warmth.

He immediately sucks my bottom lip into his mouth, causing me to release a quiet moan. My legs wrap around his waist as I stick to him like glue, partially for warmth and partially because I need him like a fraction needs a whole.

We spend quite some time making out in the water, which becomes pretty much boiling hot after a few minutes, before drying our skin and heating some food.

After we eat, we cuddle by the fire, talking about anything that comes to mind while we look out at the bright lights of the city below us.

Wrapped up in Diego's arms, looking out at this view, I'm happy and it really feels like I can do anything.

There is no doubt in my mind that I'm ready to have sex with him.
