Chapter 67 - Bryan
Bryan's POV
"Are we leaving now? We have to be there when Chase leaves the interview! Please hurry up!" Diego whines and pouts like a big baby.
"If you keep interrupting, it's just going to take longer," I reply, rolling my eyes.
Chase has his final assessment interview with Mr. Reyes today. That producer did not make it easy. Chase had a written test and another interview before this one, but today is the day he'll find out if he'll be hired.
After we pick him up, we're going to pick up Jesse from Dean's house, since he's helping Shawn unpack today, and then we'll be meeting the twin's brothers and their partners.
We decided to all go together since it's about an hour and a half drive to Mason's house. However, this is already proving to be a nightmare, given Diego incessant whining and checking of his phone while I try to finish this report before we leave the office.
"Is it something I can help with?" Diego offers. "I really want to be there when Chase finishes!"
I only have one more section to finish, but with the amount of times Diego has interrupted me I don't know if I'll ever finish it. "Diego, I need ten minutes, but you need to stop breaking my concentration."
He releases an exasperated sigh before getting up and leaving my office. I frown; I meant to sit quietly and stop fidgeting but this works too.
It takes me fifteen minutes to finish the report and another five to pack up and exit the building.
Diego is pacing next to my jeep and he lets out an irritated, "finally," when he sees me heading towards him. I roll my eyes in response. Diego has always been a stickler for time. Even though we didn't study the same thing, he's the main reason I got to classes on time during college. Not to mention that he's a little worked up about meeting the rest of Chase's family, though I'm sure they'll love him, and hopefully me.
About fifteen minutes before we reach Chase's destination, Chase calls Diego. "See I told you we'd be late," he mutters. "Hi, little lamb," he coos, and I almost burst out laughing from the sharp contrast in the tone he used to complain about us running late to the one he used when answering Chase's call. "How did the interview go?... Congratulations, honeybee! I'm so happy, and very proud of you!... We're running a little late but we'll be there in about ten minutes... Always and forever."
As soon as Diego hangs up, I ask, "he got the job?"
"He did!" He exclaims. "Reyes hired him as an Associate Producer. He says he essentially has to help with whatever needs to be done during all stages of production. Chase sounded really excited!"
"That's great!" I reply, grinning.
Since Diego is done being mad at me for running late, we chat about work and meeting the twin's family until we arrive at Chase's location, where we find him sitting on the bench and looking at the ground, kicking a pebble.
Diego hops out of the car as soon as I stop and rushes over to Chase, engulfing him in a tight hug before kissing him.
"Congratulations, Chase," I tell him, once he enters the car. He giggles and murmurs a thank you.
Diego sits in the back seat with him and I set off to pick up Jesse. We listen to Chase gushing about his duties and the movie that he'll be working on our way there.
"Vampy!" Jesse yells, waving at us as we pull up in front of Dean's house. I park the car, since I know that Shawn will want to greet Chase. Jesse hugs Shawn and rushes towards the car, and Shawn follows. "Hi baby bro, hi Diego." He plants a kiss on my lips and I smile into the kiss. "Did you miss me?" He asks, buckling his seat belt.
I release a soft laugh and nod. "I always do," I respond, sincerely meaning it. "What's in the gift bag?" I inquire, noticing the large bag settled on the floor in front of him.
"This is actually for you! Shawn and I went shopping today and I saw this and thought you'd look really hot in it." He hands me the bag and a light tinge graces his face.
Since Jesse hired two new employees, he's able to take on more clients and makes more money. Ever so often he buys me random gifts. I tried to protest and let him know that he really doesn't need to spend money on me, but he continues to do it. So, I no longer protest and have now come to enjoy and anticipate these little gifts, because they never cease to surprise me and make me smile.
He has also become a lot more receptive of me giving him things and paying for dates, although he still insists on paying occasionally.
"Awwww thank you little tomato." A vibrant smile lights up my face and I cup his face and give him a steamy kiss.
When we pull away, my tomato is panting and his cheeks are a delicious shade of red. His eyes are locked onto mine, staring into my orbs with a star struck look. "I love you, Bryan."
"I love you more," I murmur, pressing another kiss to his lips.
He grins. "I love you most."
I chuckle in response and peck his lips one more time before focusing on opening my gift. My eyes nearly bulge out of my head and I release a soft moan when I open it and the first thing that I see are matching fluorescent green jockstraps. Jesse in nothing but this would be incredibly sexy, and it's clear he thought the same about seeing me in it.
"I got one for each of us," Jesse whispers, adjusting his seat belt so that he can lean closer. "Open the rest!"
I smile and peck his lips before pulling out a large flat box. "Woah!" I gasp, looking at the gorgeous gold and black paisley floral suit. My hand reaches out to trace the intricate design, enjoying the smooth velvety texture of the fabric. "It's beautiful!"
"You like it! I picked it up today, though I placed the order a few weeks ago. It should fit perfectly since I gave them your measurements," he says in an excited voice. "It might be too flashy, to wear as a suit, but you can wear either the jacket or pants with solid colours! Though I do think you can pull off the suit!"
"Thank you!" I press a kiss to his lips, savouring the sweet taste of my perfect tomato. "I love it, I'll wear it to the benefit!"
His eyes widen. "I didn't buy this for you to wear to the benefit, I just loved it and thought you could pull it off!"
"It's perfect!" I say, grinning from ear to ear and Jesse returns my smile. I'll have to buy him a suit that matches this, probably all black and a gold tie. I subconsciously bite my lip at the thought of him wearing one of the fluorescent jockstraps underneath his suit.
My raunchy thoughts are interrupted by a phone ringing, which draws my attention to the couple in the back seat. Chase seems to have been in the middle of gushing about his new job to Shawn, but stops and frowns at his ringing phone. He answers and puts it on speakerphone. "Hi Dean," he says quietly.
"Hi Chase, is now a good time to give you an update on the case?" Comes Dean's serious voice.
"It is. I'm with Diego, Jesse and Shawn. You're on speakerphone," Chase replies hesitantly.
"Hi everyone." He doesn't wait for a response and plows ahead. "The date of the final trial is a week after the benefit Bryan's company is throwing. Chase, you already told me that you'd be willing to testify in court, if that's still the case, we'll need to start preparing you for that. Please send me a list of times when you would be available."
Chase sucks in a shaky breath and I can see the tears welling up in his eyes. "Okay," he whispers, and Diego places a kiss on his temple and rubs his back.
"Some good news; we have your results from the sexual assault forensics exam, they came about an hour ago.
"If you have any questions about anything, I'm always available. Please try to remember that Samantha and I are very good at our jobs, and also how brave you are. The case is still a few months away so please try not to worry." Dean sounds like he's almost pleading with Chase by the time he's finished talking.
Even though it's part of his job, he really doesn't like giving him updates on the case because it always upsets Chase. Sometimes Chase is able to get over it quickly, while other times, his misery lasts a lot longer.
"Thank you for the update," Chase says quietly before burying his head in Diego's neck, who kisses his hair and rubs soothing circles on his back.
Chase however doesn't seem to be crying, just taking comfort from Diego's embrace.
We say bye to Dean and hang up the phone. There are a few minutes of silence before Chase raises his head. "I'm okay," he whispers, giving us a small smile. "I'm really okay." He sucks in a shaky breath and nods, as if he's convincing himself that he really is okay. "We should go, we're already late. Mason will probably be calling soon."
We say bye to Shawn and set off, lapsing into silence, the bubbly atmosphere ruined by Dean's somber news.
"Baby bro, how was the interview? I was giving Bryan his gifts so I only heard snippets of your conversation with Shawn," Jesse attempts to salvage the mood.
"It went well," Chase mumbles. Then it's back to the deafening silence.
Would it be too awkward to turn on the music now?
I don't have to think about it too long because Chase decides to elaborate. He starts telling Jesse all about his interview, not with the same enthusiasm that he spoke about it earlier, but with every word spoken, his mood seems to be lifting as the upsetting news is wiped away with his passion for making movies.
