Chapter 59 - Chase

Chase's POV

"Amyail! My boyfriend will be joining us soon!" I tell baby Amy, gently walking my fingers over her tummy, causing her to make a soft gurgling sound. "Do you like when uncle Chase touches your tummy?" I lightly walk my fingers back over her stomach, grinning when Amy giggles with glee.

"Oh you do like when uncle Chase touches your tummy!" I exclaim before giving her feather light kisses on her bread roll like arms. "Amy guess what?" I ask, and Amy's mouth hangs open in a toothless smile.

I press a kiss each to one of her adorable, chubby legs. "Uncle Chase isn't scared to drive on the road anymore!" Amy makes a tiny screeching sound and her eyes scrunch close for a second. "Uncle Diego is amazing, he helped your uncle a lot!" I say, rattling a set of large, colourful, plastic keys in front of her.

On the mornings that Diego and I didn't go to the gym together, he would pick me up and take me to the empty parking lot to drive. He continued to challenge me; making me get into the car before him, then making me get into the car without him, until I was completely comfortable driving alone. Diego was with me every step of the way and the few times that I had a panic attack, he was right there to hold me close and comfort me.

One of Amy's tubby arms reaches out to grasp the toy, some incomprehensible babble escaping her. Amy is lying on her back atop a Peppa Pig blanket placed on the floor; her feet occasionally kicking in the air. Finally managing to grab the keys from my hand she brings them to her mouth, eliciting a string of pleased noises.

She is wearing a yellow 'Chase is my favourite Lambert' onesie which Mason, no doubt, put on to bribe me into taking care of her. He had three onesies custom made to say Justin, Jesse or Chase is her favourite Lambert. He would put them on when he really wanted something from us, and none of us can resist how cute Amy looks in the onesies.

However, it's not like I needed bribing; his wife, Aerial, wasn't feeling well and Justin and Chloe are in Peru on vacation. I don't mind babysitting; Amy is a delight and I've never had a problem holding or touching her.

As I reflect on my exchange with my brother, I realize that in my haste to take Amy from him, my hand brushed against his. He probably didn't even notice. It was brief. A fleeting moment, but it happened.

My eyes widen and a shocked gasp escapes me. "Oh my gosh, Amy! It didn't feel like cockroaches were crawling all over me when I accidentally touched your dad!" Amy makes a soft sighing sound, showing me her pink gums; the keys temporarily forgotten under her chin.

The doorbell sounds at that moment and my already wide smile widens. Diego is here! I lay the keys on top of the blanket before scooping up Amy and heading to the door. Using one hand, I open the door and frown when I see a food delivery guy. Still confused, I carefully take the food from him and head back inside.

I was tempted to test my theory of whether or not I'm comfortable with physical touch, but decided that if I'm wrong, I can't afford a panic attack, since I can't leave Amy unattended. Upon returning to the living room, I set Amy down and check my phone, noticing a text message from Mason:

Camping Bro: Hey, sorry I left in a rush! The doc said Aerial has food poisoning. Would it be cool if you keep Amy overnight? I know you have Shawn's party tomorrow so I'll pick her up before then, but keeping her for the night would be a big help. Oh and I sent you some food from that place you love!

"Your dad sent me food!" Amy's eyes follow me as I scoot away to open the food. "Ooh it's a lot!" I exclaim, looking at the two take away containers; one filled with crispy rice salad and the other filled with barbecue chicken.

Amy's low gurgle draws my attention and I stick my tongue out and cross my eyes, before closing the containers. I send a quick text to Mason telling him that Amy can stay over and thanking him for the food.

My niece is emitting constant babbles as she watches me toss aside my phone and approach her. "Amy, do you know the sound a wolf makes? Oooowhooo!" I receive more babbles in response. "Oooowhooo! That's the noise a wolf makes" I howl, sticking out my chin. "Oooowhooo!" I howl again.

Amy giggles and tries to copy me. "Oow!" She says, followed by a soft giggle.

"The wolf says oooowhooo!" I giggle when she again tries to copy me. The doorbell sounds once more and I lift Amy and take her with me to the door. "DiDi!" I exclaim as soon as my eyes land on Diego's dimple adorned face.

"Hello little wolf," he coos, before connecting our lips in a short but passionate kiss, sliding his hand down to squeeze one of my butt cheeks.

In recent weeks, Diego has been finding new places on my body to play with. A few days ago, he even played with my eyelids! But by far his favourite part of my body so far is my butt. He uses every opportunity to touch it, though he hasn't done much more than over the clothes squeezing and a massage on a few occasions, since I really liked that.

I'm excited for the time when he'll try to play with my ears, they've always been sensitive to physical touch.

Diego also knows that I'm warming up to the idea of being more intimate with him. One day at breakfast, I blurted out that I wanted us to get tested. After assuring me that getting tested doesn't mean anything has to change between us and that we will still be taking things at my pace, he agreed. The results came back last week and neither of us have any STDs.

When he breaks the kiss, he pecks my lips, then turns his attention towards Amy. "And hello even littler wolf!" He coos.

After staring at Diego for a few seconds Amy's gaze shifts towards me, and I burst into a fit of giggles at the adorable frown on her face. "Amy this is uncle Diego. He's uncle Chase's boyfriend and he's really happy to meet you," I say in an attempt to reason with the baby in my arms.

She doesn't seem to be having it because the frown remains plastered to her face. Another giggle escapes me and I plant a kiss in Amy's hair. "Okay, you two will learn to get along, he's staying over tonight and helping me take care of you."

Amy isn't used to being around strangers. Aerial's parents and my other brothers, along with Amy's parents are the only ones who have interacted with her thus far. So it's not surprising that she didn't immediately take to a new face.

"Babies usually love me." Diego pouts and I giggle. "But she is a Lambert," he says thoughtfully and I furrow my eyebrows, wondering what he's getting at. "Jesse put me through the wringer before he trusted me with you, so I expect nothing less from this little one," he finishes with a light laugh.

Giggling and rolling my eyes, I turn around and return to the living room. I sit on the floor, leaning against the couch and position Amy so that she is seated in my lap.

The sound of water can be heard from the kitchen, followed by footsteps, as Diego enters the living room shortly after. "DiDi, pass that please." I gesture towards the keys and the television remote and Diego brings both of them to me. "Look Amy!" Amy reaches for the keys which I'm dangling in front of her. She releases a little screech once she grabs them and immediately takes them to her mouth.

"I can sleep over?" Diego asks in an excited voice, although his attention is focused on Amy. "Peekaboo!" He says, showing Amy an open mouth smile, his hands open at the sides of his face.

This seems to intrigue Amy because she abandons her keys to stare at him. He covers his face before revealing it again with another exaggerated, "Peekaboo!"

"Ooo!" Amy responds, showing off her adorable, pink gums.

Diego's face lights up like a Christmas tree, clearly thrilled about gaining the little one's attention. "Yes! Peekaboo!"

"Ooo!" My niece says again, eliciting a pleased laugh from Diego.

"I want you to, but now I'm realizing that I don't have a crib for Amy since I always babysit at Mason and Aerial's house. So if I sleep with Amy in the bed then there might not be enough room for you," I reply to Diego's earlier question.

"I can sleep on the floor or buy a crib," he instantly replies.

It's ridiculous to buy a crib for one night, so I'll just have to make it as safe as possible for Amy. "You're not buying a crib! Would you really be okay sleeping on the floor?" Diego grins and nods in response to my question. "Okay! Now that that's settled, let's eat! Mason sent food!"

Amy is now playing with a rainbow coloured rattle that I completely forgot was in her baby bag, making low gurgling sounds. Diego exits the room and returns shortly after with two plates. He puts the food into the plates and we start to eat. I tell him about my discovery earlier about physical touch and Diego is just as excited as I am.

"Amy, no!!" Diego suddenly shouts, reaching out to pull my niece's hand which is rapidly approaching her mouth.

Not knowing what's happening, I stop her hand and see a smear of barbecue sauce on it. The sneaky baby, unbeknownst to me, put her hand on top of my barbecue chicken and was about to put her hand in her mouth.

"Oh my gosh! Amy why did you do that!" I scold and she immediately bursts into tears. Diego uses her baby wipes to clean her hands before I spin her around to face me. Her face is already red and snort is forming around her nose.

I cradle the crying child in my arms and take another wipe from Diego's outstretched hand. "Amy, you can't have grown-up food yet, that's why uncle Chase and uncle Diego were upset." My voice is calm and steady as I gently rock Amy. "Shhhh, don't cry," I soothe before shifting my gaze towards Diego, flashing him an appreciative smile.

Amy's cries soon begin to fade as I continue to rock her. Once she's fully calmed down, I pass her to Diego before heading to the kitchen to make her formula.

Upon re-entering, warm bottle in hand, I spot Diego engrossed in conversation with Amy, telling her about the first time he met her uncle Chase. Amy is staring intently at his face as if she understands every word and is completely engrossed in the story. She babbles a little in between and Diego responds to her nonsensical babble as if she's asking real questions.

A warm smile spreads across my face as I watch them, and I can't help but think that this will be Diego and I in the future with our own child. I finally join them and as soon as I sit, I kiss Amy on the forehead and place a chaste kiss on Diego's lips. "I love you, DiDi."

The brightest, most beautiful smile that I've ever seen adorns his face at my words and his brown eyes shine brighter than any star. "I love you too, Chase, so so much." He kisses the tip of my nose and I beam before pecking his cheek. Amy makes a soft squealing noise and we refocus on her, but not before Diego presses a kiss to my temple.

I again test the temperature of the formula, then give the bottle to Diego, so that he can feed Amy. Diego tells me about Dean's birthday gifts for Shawn, we play with Amy some more, and while Diego and Amy watch cartoons, I work on the ending of Shawn's video. We also give her a quick bath, before taking turns with our own, and give her another bottle.

When it is time to go to bed, Diego sets up a sleeping bag on the floor with some pillows, while I change Amy's diaper. I then remove all the pillows and blankets from the bed and turn up the temperature a little, before laying Amy in the middle of the bed and giving her her pacifier.

Amy and I fall asleep to the soft, soothing voice of my boyfriend telling her a fairy tale of two princes that were meant for each other.

Omg while writing this I realized that I know absolutely nothing about babies! Like I didn't even know that you shouldn't tickle a baby! Apparently they're oversensitive to touch so tickling might hurt them! I also didn't know that it takes 2 months for them to smile and another 2 months to laugh! I didn't know that if you sleep with them in your bed, you have to remove everything. I thought it was the opposite, put pillows around them so if they randomly roll they won't fall but nope, apparently they're more likely to suffocate from the pillows! So yeah those were some of my discoveries about babies. Shout out to any parents that might be reading this, taking care of a baby is not easy!
