Sparring
I opened my eyes slowly, letting them adjust to the bright light before taking in my surroundings. I was back in my room in Avengers tower and around the room was the team. Tony was bickering with Steve like usual, Natasha and Banner were quietly "flirting" (everyone thought it was flirting but it really wasn't. I know what she's doing and I don't blame her.) Clint was discussing something about a rainbow bridge with Thor on my floor by the bathroom and I merely laid there taking in everyone's conversations, analyzing what they said and mentally figuring out their weaknesses. It was almost too easy, and even though I don't plan to destroy any of them, you never know. Someone might be brainwashed or something and then it would come in handy.
It was a little louder in the room than I would have liked it to be so I had to speak up quite a bit.
"Guys!" I yelled. The conversations died down quickly and all eyes turned to me. "I want to go to the gym. Someone quickly tell me what happened before I go," I said as I pulled the blankets off my body.
"Well," Bruce said scratching the back of his neck as he walked over to my bed. "We were on a mission. Do you remember that much?"
"Yes yes I remember that part. We were on a mission and there were way more agents than expected and then we needed a bomb and then the explosion was a few seconds from exploding. That's all I remember," I said looking around the room for my knuckle tape.
"Yeah well after that...After that you were running from the building when the bomb exploded, burying you underneath a large pile of concrete. We managed to get you out two hours later when the back up arrived." Bruce looked down at the floor.
"Yeah and Capsicle was crying," Tony said with a mocking tone.
"You were crying too," Natasha said with an eye roll. "We all were Luna. We thought we lost you."
I nodded slowly, thinking about my friends just standing around crying but my mind was quickly adverted from feelings to exercise.
"So can I go to the gym now?" I wasn't sure how else to respond. I never was good with emotions.
"Yeah," Bruce said.
"Actually," Natasha said with a grin. "Why don't we have a sparring match?" My eyes light up.
"I haven't sparred in ages," I said grabbing my tape.
"Meet in the gym in ten minutes," Steve said and ran out of the room. Everyone else quickly ran out of the room after Steve and I could hear yelps of joy, and I couldn't help but smile. Focusing back on changing, I ducked into my closet and pulled on a purple sports bra, black yoga pants, blue sneakers, and put my fiery red hair in a tight French braid. I put on some deodorant and wrapped my hands before hopping into the elevator and pushing the 10th floor button. The metal box rose slowly much to me demise, and I was itching to spar, so when the doors opened I bolted out into the gym and threw myself into the large sparring ring, but no one had arrived yet and I had to do something, so I danced. I had danced every night before I came to New York, so my pointe skills were still on point. I'm funny, I thought as I stood up on the tops of my toes and begun an old routine from my childhood. It felt good to dance, and I spun with a content sigh, happy to be free but the doors opened and I was forced to stop my rhythmic moving.
"Were you dancing pointe?" Natasha asked as she moved to the ring.
"Yeah. Can you dance?" I asked tucking a stray hair behind my ear.
"Can I dance." Amusement laced Natasha's voice as she stepped into the ring, jumping up onto her toes. "Where did you train?"
"Red studio. And you?" I didn't really train at Red studio, that was a made up place, but it wasn't exactly lying either. I trained in the red, but not this particular red.
"Oh, here and there," Natasha said doing a pirouette. It was so obvious.
"You're lying." I stated blandly.
"I'm impressed. You're right. I am lying. I trained in Russia in a facility known as the red room," Natasha said standing flat footed. I nodded. "Did you ever learn the dance of 96?" She asked putting her arms in the starting position of a routine.
"Yeah, want to dance it?" I had blown my cover. I should have been more careful, but Natasha didn't comment on it immediately.
"Sure. JARVIS, can you play Mozart symphony number 6?"
"Of course."
The music started and so did the routine, leading Natasha and me into a beautifully synchronized ballet. There were spins and leaps, but my favorite was the ending. It was a needle on pointe with four spins, arms up, head back, and after the fourth spin we fell backwards into a split.
I smiled as the song ended, slowly standing to my feet.
"Luna-"
"That was amazing." I jumped at the sudden disturbance. Steve, Tony, Bruce, Thor, and Clint all stood by the sparring ring clapping. I smiled and hopped out of the ring, leaving Natasha standing with a frustrated look on her face.
I grabbed a water bottle as Tony decided who would go first.
"Alright. How about Thor and Steve to start with, then Clint and me, then Luna and Natasha," he said leaving out Bruce. "Bruce, you don't want to spar right?"
"No," he said quickly.
"Ok, then Steve and Thor, you're up."
I smiled and sat down on the floor to watch the match. Surely this would be entertaining. Tony rang a small bell and the two legends began. Thor was quick to the trigger and threw the first punch at Steve's face, but Steve ducked and kicked Thor in the stomach. He stumbled backwards a bit, but quickly found his footing and swung another punch to Steve's face, but this time when Steve ducked, Thor side stepped and punched him in the stomach. Steve fell backwards onto the floor but did a backwards roll and was on his feet again. He ran to Thor and threw a left hook but Thor blocked and hiked up his knee but Steve stepped back in time and jumped up into Thor's knee and wrapped his legs around Thor's neck causing the pair to fall to the ground. There was a struggle for a moment but then Thor tapped the mats and Steve let him go, ending the match. The two shook hands and stepped over the ropes of the ring, each grabbing a water bottle. "Alright Clint. You and me, lets go." Tony stepped into the ring with a cocky grin followed by Clint who just smiled. "Luna, ring my bell." Tony's eyes never left Clint as I reached over and picked up the small golden bell, hitting in with the tiny mallet. Clint put his hands up and waited for Tony to make the first move which was a punch. Clint dodged the punch and swung his legs around, causing Tony to fall to the ground, but before Clint could land a blow to Tonys face, he had rolled to his side and knife handed Clint in the back of the knee causing him to fall to the ground, so now both Tony and Clint were laying on the ground, but Clint was up first and got a foot on Tony's chest. Tony struggled before grabbing Clint by the leg and flipping him to the ground, standing up and making a finger gun. "Do I win? I think I win," he said pulling the finger trigger making pew pew noises with his mouth. I rang the small bell and Clint gave me a 'come on' look but Tony grinned and jumped through the ropes of the ring. "Ok, Luna and Natasha are next. Clint out of the ring," Tony said taking the bell from me as I walked over to the ring. I jumped over the red and blue ropes and stood in the center, waiting patiently for Natasha. She jumped in a moment later and put her hands up in a fighting stance just like mine. Tony rang his little bell and the match stared. We circled each other, each of us waiting for the other to make the first move. After maybe a minute of circling, I got bored and made the first move, despite my training. I threw a right hook but Natasha blocked with the outside of her arm and threw a fist at my stomach but I blocked her blow by making a x with my arms and tired to hit Natasha in the side but she blocked with her forearm and upper arm. This time Natasha kicked at my stomach, but I grabbed her foot before she could hit me and twisted it around, causing Natasha to fall to the floor. I wasn't even on my knees when Natasha kicked my legs out and rolled on top of me, pinning my hands above my head.
"How do you know about Pointe 96?" She questioned. I kneed Natasha in the stomach and got on top of her, sitting on her legs and pinning down her hands by her waist.
"It was a well know dance in Red Studio," I lied.
"You're lying to me," she said and Natasha hooked her ankles up around my neck and threw my body to the ground in front of her before quickly sitting on my upper back.
"Now why would I do that?" I asked as I grabbed Natasha with my ankles, and jerked her body off mine to the left. We both stood up quickly and assumed our previous fighting stances, slowly circling each other again, but it didn't last long, for Natasha threw a kick at my head, but I blocked and punched her stomach but she grabbed my hand and flipped me. Now, most people would have just fallen to the ground, but I used the momentum Natasha gave me to spin myself around again and wrap my legs around her neck, putting Natasha in a choke hold, but she found a way out of my grasp quickly and slammed my back into the ground, climbing on top of me.
"You trained in the red room didn't you?" She questioned harshly, her hands molding down my arms, feet holding down my legs.
"I don't know what your talking about," I lied, head butting Natasha. She fell off me and I got up to run but Natasha grabbed my ankle and pulled me to the ground.
"Stop lying." She sat on my back and pulled my leg up at an odd angle, threatening to break it.
"My past is my own ok!" I yelled bucking Natasha off my body and running.
"Just tell me already," she shouted after me. I stopped dead in my tracks and slowly turned around to face Natasha.
"Ok," I said, my voice high, my tone crazy. I ran up to Natasha and put my head on her shoulder so I could whisper in her ear. "My childhood was spent in the red room. It's a sinister organization in Russia that trains little girls to become deadly assassins. I'm assuming that since you're the black widow and know the dance of 96 you went there too, so then you also know what sort of hell I was out through as a child. All the branding, the shootings, the explosions. Only difference is, you're the black widow, and I'm the white nightmare." I took my opportunity and hit Natasha in the gut, and when she doubled over I stood triumphantly until she ran at my torso and threw me to the ground violently. My head hit the ground and I passed out for a moment before regaining consciousness. I heard Tony go,
"3...2...1...KO," and I was released from my hold. Natasha helped me to my feet and stuck out her hand.
"No hard feelings?"
"Nah." I shook her killer hand with my assassin hand and walked out of the ring.
"What was all that yelling about?" Tony asked when we stepped out. "You were like 'my past is my own. Dieeeeee!' Why don't you tell me about your past red2?"
"I would rather burn in the fiery depths of hell for all eternity than tell you my blood soaked past," I snarled, and grabbed a water bottle.
