Red star
Last time I checked, there were not sirens in my room and yet I still woke up to them. They weren't close to me, but off in the distance.
I opened my eyes and nearly screamed. Instead of being in my bed at avengers tower, I was lying on the roof top of a building in the city. What the shitzel is going on? I stood up slowly, holding my throbbing head and looked around me. I could see the tower from here about a mile away, and yet I had somehow gotten onto the roof of an abandoned apartment building all alone at sunset. That's not abnormal at all, I thought with sarcasm as I moved to an old door marked with a stairwell symbol. Slowly, I pushed open the door and walked down the creaking steps with unease. Something didn't feel right, but I kept walking anyway. I reached a platform in the stairs and decided to check out the floor that I was on because why not. The door was metal and rusted, hardly movable even for someone of my strength, but I opened it enough to squeeze through.
There wasn't much, just a bunch of wooden doors hanging wide open, but one caught my attention. At the very end of the hall was a bluish light emitting from an open door so I crept closer, careful not to make any floor boards creak. Cautiously, I peeked my head around the door frame and saw the room empty. Curiosity killed the cat, I thought as I slipped in silently.
There was a desk, a chair, and a laptop in the room and that was it. I slid into the chair in front of the laptop and scrolled through the open account. There were files, emails, coordinates, and passwords, and I would have gotten into the files if someone hadn't stopped me.
"What are you doing in here, who are you," a voice snarled from behind me. When I didn't answer he asked again. "Who are you!"
"I'm Christina," I lied, standing up from the chair I was sitting in and turning to look at the man.
He was tall and bald and rather large, and he held a gun in his hands pointed at my chest.
This man I was facing didn't seem convinced as he studied me.
"Wait a second....you. You're in my files. You're Luna," he said advancing. Startled that someone else knew my name, I backed away.
"How do you know my name," I growled as the man cocked his gun.
"You're an avenger from the red room. We all know about you at HYDRA." This man was freaking me out. "And now, I'm going to kill you," he said putting his finger on the trigger. Hopelessly defenseless, I threw my arms in front of my face as the shot rang out through the empty room, but I never felt the bullet slice through me. Surprised, I opened my eyes and took in my new surroundings.
I was now about two miles from the tower on the crowded sidewalk of New York, and the sun was still setting. I didn't know what to do, so I decided to blend in and walk through the thinning crowds of people, but when I looked behind me I saw three men darting through the people towards me, murder in their eyes. Turning back around, I began to run down the sidewalk towards the tower. The men were quick, but I was quicker and I was able to stay a decent space from them, but I was wearing out faster than anticipated.
The sun had almost completely set and there was only about a half mile until I would be safe in the tower, but still one man that was stronger than the rest was still chasing me. He wore his hair long with tinted goggles and a black mask, but his shirt resembled a straight jacket from the 40's. With close examination I could see his fingers on his left hand were metal. I turned around again and saw him draw a gun from his holster which led me to my next choice. I could either risk another persons life, or my own.
"Get out of the way!" I yelled to the civilians surrounding me. "Run!" The men and women obeyed and took off into small shops or crossing the street, just to get away from the danger. I turned back around and sure enough, the man was there, gun drawn, bouncing up and down in his hand as he tried to aim at me.
Click. I felt a tearing in my stomach as a bullet flew through my abdomen. I yelled in pain and tripped, falling to the cement but I had to keep running to stay alive, so I quickly picked myself back up and started running again.
Facing forwards again, I saw that the tower was about 900 feet away, and if I sprinted I could maybe make it before the man got the chance to pull the trigger again. With a puff of determination, I sprinted to the front doors of avengers tower and tugged on the glass, but the door was locked.
"If you have a key card, please scan it now. If your here for an appointment, please use the speaker to the right." JARVIS spoke through a small speaker in the overhang as I banged on the door.
"Damnit JARVIS its Luna let me in!" I yelled as the man with the metal arm drew closer. Not getting a response from JARVIS I hit the button on the speaker box and paged Tony. "Stark open the damn door!" I yelled into the box as the man jumped on top of a nearby car.
"Shit I'm coming Luna," he said and I heard thudding of what I hoped was him running down the stairs.
I turned back around and saw the man mid shot, aiming for my heart, but I had just enough time to move away and it caught me in the shoulder. I cried out in pain as my muscles burned from the bullet and watched in horror as the man lined up for another shot, but before he could shoot I was pulled into the front lobby.
Coughing, I looked up at my savior. It was Steve, and I was staining his clothing with my blood.
"JARVIS put up the front shields," he commanded as he rested my back against his thighs
"Steve I don't want to ruin your clothes," I croaked.
"Shh, don't worry about it.
Do we have a 20 on the shooter?" He asked he ceiling.
"Agent Romanov is in purist," JARVIS responded.
"Luna are you okay? Tell me about the shooter," Steve questioned as he helped me stand.
"Not right now. Just give me a minute," I said walking myself to the elevator. Steve came up behind me as I waited for the doors to open and put his hand on my shoulder. I sighed and turned around. "He was fast. He had metal fingers from what I could see, so maybe an entire metal arm," I explained stepping into the elevator once it arrived. Steve followed closely behind me, keeping a hand on the small of my back. "He had a mask and some tinted goggles, hair was long and brown, and he wore a straight jacket looking thing," I continued as the metal box rose. "I'll sketch him for you when we get to my room."
"You can draw?"
"Yeah."
The elevator dinged and I stepped out onto my floor, opening the black door and walking into my bedroom, not caring that I left my bed a mess.
I motioned for Steve to follow me as I walked over to my desk and grabbed my sketch book and pencil. I sat down in the gray chair and did a rough sketch of the man chasing me for Steve to see, and as I was handing the book over to Steve, there was a knock on my door.
"I'll get it," Steve offered walking over to the door. It was Natasha.
"Hey Nat," I said standing up. I was walking over to her when I fell, suddenly becoming very dizzy.
"Woah Luna, are you okay?" She asked rushing to my side. I coughed for an answer as Natasha looked me over frantically, trying to find the problem.
"Oh, shit!" Steve exclaimed, running into my bathroom.
"What?" Natasha yelled, sitting me up.
"I completely forgot she was shot!" Steve yelled as he ran back into the main room with a rag and a first aid kit.
"Steve! You...how...ugh. Fuck Steve give me the rag," Natasha said exasperated. Steve handed Natasha the white cloth and pressed it to my stomach while Steve put another on my shoulder.
"Did you find the shooter," I asked after a few minutes of silence. Natasha sighed.
"No. Did you get any details on him?"
"Yes," I said reaching for the sketch book on the desk.
"Nope," Steve said pushing my body back to the ground as he stitched my bullet wounds.
"Just give her the book Steve," I said, so Steve handed the needle to Natasha and grabbed the book off the desk, exchanging drawing for needle. Natasha was silent as she looked over my drawing.
"How did you get out of the building Luna?" She questioned as Steve finished his stitches.
"I was hoping you would know," I said uneasily.
"One minute your laying in bed, peaceful and still, the next your gone. I had my eyes on you and then the lines of the world blurred around you and you had disappeared," Natasha explained. A smile lit up my face.
"That happened to me once in the past hour," I explained with excitement. Then my face fell. "Woah. What's happening to me?" I said suddenly realizing the gravity of the situation.
"I don't know but I think this might be good," Natasha said standing up and motioning for me to follow her.
She had led Steve and us to the gym.
"Are we doing punching," I asked with excitement.
"Nope. Now, Luna. Tell me what you were doing when you flickered away," Natasha said.
"Uh, I was at gun point," I said. Natasha and Steve looked at me questioningly. "It's a long story, don't ask. But I had a gun to my head and the man with the gun had just pulled the trigger and then I disappeared."
"Ok, um... here. Maybe danger triggers it," Natasha suggested.
"I wasn't in danger when it happened in my room was I," I asked nervously. "Which reminds me, Steve. What was that mission you were talking about earlier?"
"Oh, us three have a mission with SWAT team in one week, I'll tell you about it later."
"Ok.
Maybe emotions trigger it," I suggested thinking back to when it first happened and I was conscious.
"Try it," Natasha said shrugging. "What emotion did you feel at gunpoint?"
"Scared," I offered.
"Ok, now make yourself scared, or worried."
"Ohhh, I see where you're going with this," Steve said.
I tried to feel scared by thinking of anything I feared. My past, my nightmares, the man chasing me.
"Good job Luna!" I heard Natasha yell as I flickered away. I appeared on the other side of the gym in a blink of an eye and smiled.
"Do it again!" Steve yelled like a child. I smirked and tried to do the move again, thinking of scary things along with location and popped up right behind Steve.
"Boo," I whispered in his ear. Steve jumped and swung his arm around, hitting my in the side. I fell with a grunt as Steve looked at who had scared him.
"Steve, you scared little bitch," I muttered as Natasha helped me up.
"Sorry," Steve said, cheeks turning red.
"Luna do it again," Natasha said taking things back on topic.
"Where do you want me to go?" I asked.
"To Tony's lab. Scare him till he screams," Steve said with a mischievous glimmer in his eye.
