Fear of the Unknown

The helicarrier sent a smaller jet from the deck of the plane that I ended up on. We flew into the night with Tony piloting, the other five avengers and I sitting in the rear. It was a short flight, just five minutes, before Stark landed the jet on the outdoor landing pad of a large tower. On the tower were large neon letters that spelt out one word: 'Avengers'. I took in the large exterior of the building as I was guided inside.

After walking through the glass doors, I was in a lounge. It took up the entire floor with a fireplace and television, a bar, big couch, all the fancy nice stuff that I would never be able to afford.

As I took my new surroundings a very tired Tony piped up.

"Nat, can you show Luna where the guest floor is?" I cringed at the mention of my real name. The assassin nodded and motioned for me to follow her, leading me into an elevator. We rode without speaking until Natasha broke the silence.

"Do you have a last name?" She asked turning to face me.

"Luna. That's all."

"I understand," she said quietly. I was confused. This woman would never understand me, my past, or my insecurities. I was about to speak up when the elevator doors opened to reveal a grand room. We stepped out of the elevator there was a large wall in front of us with a black door in the very center of the black wall. Natasha pulled on the door handle, and it opened to reveal a large bedroom. The walls were a space gray with white accent pieces everywhere, and a black bed. I took a step inside making sure that I wasn't showing any emotions before Natasha showed me around. "So, this is your bedroom. If you walk back here this is the bathroom," she said walking to the back and left of the room. I took a peek inside and the bathroom was massive, but I would have to explore that later. Natasha kept on walking, moving around the end of the bed and to the right side of the room. "And this is the closet. If you need anything just ask JARVIS, he lives in the ceiling and he's an A.I, but I'm on the floor above just in case." Natasha gave a tired smile and left the room, closing the door with a soft click. Once I was sure I was alone I asked a question to the man in the ceiling.

"JARVIS?"

"Yes ma'am?" He had a British accent.

It took me a moment to respond.

"How long will I be here?" I asked finally.

"I would assume that now that you are here you are an avenger, and I would begin to unpack your bags," the AI replied. I said thank you to the ceiling and did as he said, unpacking my bags.

After marveling at the closet, I put all my stuff away and threw my pillows and blankets onto the black bedspread. I was now wearing a sports bra and sport shorts, my red hair in a ponytail, my blue contacts out allowing my natural green eyes to show.

"JARVIS?" I asked again.

"Yes ma'am?"

"Where is the gym?"

"You are currently on the 7th floor. The gym is on the 10th floor, just above the lounge."

"Thank you JARVIS."

"No problem."

I walked out of the bedroom with my phone and earbuds in hand, tape in pocket, slowly unraveling the tangled earphones cord as the elevator rose to the 10th floor. Finally, the cord came undone and I plugged it into my phone, choosing my workout playlist and putting my earphones in. It was two in the morning, and my body needed sleep, but I hated to sleep.

I wrapped my knuckles as I listened to my warmup song, bouncing on the balls of my feet. I finished with my tape, tossing it to the side and picked up a punch in bag, setting it on the chain. I centered my body with the brown sack and began punching.

The final song on my playlist ended so I stopped punching and took out my earbuds, checking the time. 4:10. I didn't want to stop punching, but I was getting unbearable tired. JARVIS spoke to me, and for a moment I thought I was hearing voices again, but I soon remembered who it was.

"Miss Luna, I recommend that you get some rest. You will function better for days to come if you do," he recommended. I shook my head going back to the punching bag that was hanging from the ceiling.

"I don't like to sleep," I stated flatly.

"If you don't mind my asking, why don't you?"

"I have nightmares." I stopped punching, sitting down with my back to the bag. "I have these awful nightmares, but when I wake up in the morning no matter what I do, I can never remember what they were about almost as if my brain has a block in it." I stood back up and resumed my fighting stance, but JARVIS spoke up.

"Would you allow me to help you?" He asked.

"How so?"

"I can monitor your dreams if you would like, figure out what it is that gives you these nightmares."

"How?"

"I was made very well." I could hear a laugh in JARVIS voice as he responded. You've got nothing to lose.

"Sure," I said with a sigh. I unhooked the punching bag and put it back over with the rest of the bags, and grabbed my phone, earphones, and tape before walking out of the gym. "And JARVIS," I said unraveling the tape on my hands.

"Yes?"

"Please don't tell anyone what I told you," I pleaded.

"I won't."

I elevator went down three floors, stopping on the guest floor. I stepped out of the metal contraption and into my bedroom. I'll shower in the morning, I thought as I changed from my sweaty gym clothes into some comfortable pajamas. I crawled onto the big bed and laid down on the black comforter absorbing the softness before ducking under the covers and closing my eyes, my head on the black pillow case, falling into a much needed sleep.

I awoke screaming. I looked around me taking in my surroundings and sighed, wiping sweat off my forehead.

"JARVIS?" I croaked, my throat sore from screaming.

"I'm analyzing that data, but from what I've got now it doesn't make sense," he said confused. "Natasha is about to enter the room." I was startled by the sudden knock on the door even though JARVIS had warned me. I got out of bed and opened the door and saw Natasha on the other side wearing her pajamas.

"Are you okay?" She asked concerned. "I heard you screaming and got nervous." I sighed and nodded.

"Yeah. Yeah, I'm alright. Just a nightmare."

"Do you want to talk about it?" I appreciated Natasha. She seemed like a good person that I would get along with well in the future.

"I don't remember what it was about quite frankly," I said swaying my hips back and forth causing the wooden floors to groan.

"Ok, well, goodnight."

"Night." I gave her a small wave and softly closed my door before climbing back into bed.

"If appears that you aren't seeing or hearing anything, but I believe some sort of memory is playing in your head that is causing these nightmares, but I cannot actually see it." JARVIS sounded dumbfounded. I was just as confused as him, but I didn't let it show.

"Well thanks for trying JARVIS," I said pulling the covers around my body. "Wake me up if I have another nightmare."
