18: Your Origins
Miles helped you into the twenty-six hundred dollar Miu Miu coat that he had bought to go with the dress. The outfit you had on today was pure flashing of weath; but then again, so were you. Two-hundred and fifty thousand dollars was about your general worth, and it only went up when you were dressed better.
But the streets of Ergastulum were no match for how expensive you were and it was little to no time before you realized that you were actually leaving the city.
"Where ah we go-in?" You asked Miles quietly in the back of the limousine that had been provided by the Monroe family.
"Shh. Do not embarrass me. We're going to see your family."
"You shh." You looked taken aback. "Mah family ish nah embawawah ah me!"
Georgiana loved you and you knew it. But Miles held your face in your hand so you didn't miss of a word of his.
"Not your whore mother. Your real father. Uranos. And don't think about saying shit to anyone about us being here. Absolute secret between us. Husband and wife privilege. Not even if they torture you. Got it?" His voice sounded angry, so you nodded. "Good."
He dusted off your shoulders and straightened your coat as you tried to calm yourself down. It had been quite a while since you had seen Uranos and of course, the last meeting hadn't gone that well either. Beyond being rejected as his daughter, he always insisted on you serving his men because of how beautiful you were. It made you so angry to be around a hypocrite like him. Who could kick out his own baby daughter for being deaf and then make her serve his men at the brothel because she was so beautiful?
A monster, that's who.
The ride itself wasn't very long and honestly, by the time you arrived, you couldn't be bothered to even want to listen to what they had to say. You weren't interested in family politics, nor did you care why Miles was here. So you busied yourself with the appetizers and let everything float underwater.
It was comforting to return to a place that you knew so well; this isolation. Everyone seemed to be able to do their own thing around you and you could simply focus on your own thoughts and your own actions.
Don't get any food on your clothes. Sit nicely. Chew quietly. Be sure to smile. All of these things were easy when you couldn't hear what was going on. You didn't have to worry about whether or not Miles was betraying one family or another, or even if you were going to get murdered. Whatever was going to happen was going to happen.
Which is why is was weird that you were even brought here in the first place. But soon, that reason would be made very apparent.
Miles' hand eventually made its way over to your shoulder, alerting you to pay attention to his mouth. A covert signal he had trained you to be aware of. It was time to listen.
