Chapter Ten: Ryan
Lui doesn't even slow down, bolting up the staircase. David whips out his phone and takes a few pictures for evidence, freezing when he hears Lui scream. He runs after the smaller man and finds him at the top of the stairs, cradling Ohm's dead body. David hates himself for it, taking one quick picture before grabbing Lui and lifting him up, away from the crime scene.
Lui kicks and screams, sobbing and trying to get away, but David is obviously stronger then him. Lui eventually stops, turning and burying his face into David's chest to cry. David holds him, soaking in the scene.
Ohm is laying on the ground, his left hand weakly clutched around a small revolver that left a hole in his head. There's a note a foot or two away from the puddle of blood collected under Ohm, the pool of blood that caused the waterfall down the staircase. A suicide. David can guess what's on the note, a confession.
Lui sobs out again, and David rubs his back before calling the police. He talks soft and quiet, so much so the man on the other end nearly doesn't hear. Lui sobs again and David hangs up, clinging to him. "It's okay Lui, it's okay. I got you" He whispers, and Lui refuses to let go.
The police show up, more evidence markers, more pictures, more questions. David nearly disregards them, determined to get Lui a shock blanket and something to clean the blood off of his hands and clothing. He takes Lui downstairs and they sit on the couch, David leaving for only a minute. He comes back with a heavy grey blanket, draping it over Lui's shoulders. He takes Lui's hands and cleans them with moist wipes, nothing can be done about his clothes until later.
Lui is still crying, but he's better, and David sits next to him, trying to comfort him. Physical comfort isn't a possibility at this point, and David cringes when cops arrive to brief him, the lead on the case, and end up telling Lui all the gruesome details. Ohm had been dead for only an half hour when they arrived, and the note was indeed a confession. The second Lui heard that, he stopped crying.
"Show me the note." He orders, trying to be scary with puffy eyes and tear tracks on his face. The men glance at each other and then David, who nods. They slip away and come back with a small evidence bag, which Lui snatches away. "It isn't Ohm's handwriting."
David frowns, putting his hand on Lui's back. "Lui, you're in shock."
Lui shrugs him off, standing up. "N-No! Ohm looped his g's, and the dots above his i's were always circles, and he never signed his name Ohm! It was always Ryan," He babbles, fresh tears bubbling up. "Someone is trying to frame him, I swear! I don't even have a notepad matching this paper in the house! Ohm would, Ohm was scared of dying! He wouldn't kill himself!" Lui screams, putting his foot down. Literally.
David has to believe Lui, in a state like this David doubts he could come up with anything. But his collogues think quite the opposite after taking the evidence bag and dragging David away.
"You can't honestly believe him."
"He's hysterical!"
"He's probably just in shock he got found out, or maybe upset. Grasping at straws."
"He's lying to us."
"He's a stripper in a murder case, of course he is!"
David stops them with a growl, snatching away the evidence bag and handing it to another cop. "Take this to forensics and compare it to Ryan's usual writing." He demands, spinning on heel and zoning in on the two rude officers. "And the both of you! I want you both removed from this case and sent to a witness sensitivity program, now!"
The two men are shocked, scared more like it, nodding like dolls before running out of the door. David huffs and marches back into the living room without really meaning to march, Lui looking up at him with bleary eyes. "I... I'm sorry I just..." Lui trails off, sniffling.
David shakes his head, sighing. "It's alright. Don't apologize. Is there anyone I can call? Anywhere you can stay?"
He regrets saying that because Lui's eyes widen and his breath becomes stuck in his throat. "Evan."
