Chapter Nine: Lui

With the baton properly bagged and sent off to forensics, all that's left is the statement. David sits down at his desk, Lui sitting next to it in a small guest chair. David logs into his computer and opens up the right software, fixing the font size and titling the document after the case number. With his fingers still on the keyboard, he looks at Lui.

"Recant how and where you found the weapon, please." He says, using his cop voice again. The night shift workers are here, Brian is too (though he's asleep at his desk), and the last thing David needs is his collogues harping on him for going soft on a stripper. A male one at that. Even just thinking of the bias makes David angry, cops should be the least bias out of everyone if they're going to do their jobs right. It takes him a moment to realize Lui has begun speaking.

"Well, Ohm misplaced it before a performance," Lui blinks owlishly when David interrupts him with a strange word he's only heard on a TV show, but never really known the definition of.

"Hearsay." David says, feeling his lip twitch into a smirk when Lui cocks his head. "I understand you trust Ohm not to lie to you, but please only discuss the issue from your eyes. Not what Ohm told you, what you saw."

Lui swallows, nodding. "Okay then, then the matter wasn't present to me until the next morning. This morning. Ohm went outside through the back, I don't really know why, maybe to smoke or, or throw something out but he went and came back hysterical." Lui gulps when he notices David is typing all of this at a godly speed, word for word. "He grabbed me and started sobbing so I went outside, and it was honestly disgusting. I was the one who noticed Ohm's baton. He told me about him losing it, so I went inside, grabbed some plastic bags, and went back out to wrap up the baton. I put it in my car and told Tyler, who called the cops."

David keeps on typing, though, making notes and formatting the statement. Lui sits there awkwardly, quietly, and looks around as David types away. He notices quite a few of the cops glaring him down like he's trash, which makes him frown, because he isn't even in his costume. He looks down, but then he sees a familiar face sleeping on his desk.

Brian, he frequents at the club. He usually fucks with Mini, Lui recalls, and he quickly looks away. Don't wake up, he pleads, don't wake up. He's yanked out of his thoughts when someone walks over, talking to David and disregarding Lui entirely. "Why is this man here?" He asks, and Lui's stomach clenches. "He's distracting the workplace."

Lui frowns and looks at his thumbs, feeling like a toddler. David takes a deep breath and sighs through his nose, addressing his superior. "I'm taking his statement, sir."

The man snorts, literally, and Lui expects to be spat on. Wouldn't be the first time. "How could you trust a stripper? Get him out of here David, before he coughs on something." Lui gets the implication without it needing to be said.

David stands up then, and Lui isn't surprised to see he's bigger then the man addressing him. He looks ready to snap but then takes control of himself, his hands balled into fists at his side. "I'm sorry sir, but Lui is the only lead we have at the moment in a murder investigation. His profession shouldn't make his testimony worth any less. So we will finish the statement, and Lui will go home. Good night, sir."

Lui is shocked to be stood up for so fiercely, trying to stop a small, awed smile from growing. David's superior seems to want to argue, but he knows David is right. He returns the ironic pleasantries and heads to his office, David sinking back into his seat with a sigh. "I am so sorry about that."

Lui suddenly feels his face heat up. "It's fine, really. Thank you for standing up for me. Could... Could I go home now?"

David nods in understanding, saving the document and leading Lui outside to his car. They drive back to Lui's house in silence, but Lui's head certainly isn't calm. He's never had anyone, especially a cop, stand up for him like that. Even he wouldn't call stripping a profession, but to all their own. They climb out of the car, David requesting if he could tell Ohm all went well, and Lui agreeing.

They walk inside the house quietly, Lui calling for Ohm to come downstairs if he isn't already asleep. But then no one responds and David says he must be sleeping, but Lui worries. And in his worry, Lui runs to the stairs. And on the stairs, they find blood, lots of it, dripping down the steps.
