Chapter Fourteen: Content, For Now
In the morning, if ten am counts as the morning, Lui wakes up warm and comfortable. New, considering his mattress is a piece of crap. But then his blanket moves, and it turns out he's just clutched against a much bigger person with a much higher body temperature. Lui smiles and stays still, relishing in the moment, pretending that he's in a normal, functioning relationship.
But then David starts to move, starts to get up, but not really. He sits up, gently laying Lui on the bed considering he had been laying on his arm. Lui keeps his eyes closed, so he doesn't have to admit he was awake for all that, and feels a hand run through his hair. No pulling, not really petting, just brushing his hair out of his face. Lui hears David chuckle and it makes his chest flutter. Wait. No. Stop it, Lui.
Then David weight leaves the bed and Lui hears clothing being shifted, then the click of a belt buckle. The blanket is drawn up over his shoulders and then there's footsteps, then the door closing. Lui smiles, rolling into David's warm spot and curling up. That was... nice. Really, really nice.
But, he knows he has to get up, so he does. He stands up and realizes David laid clothing on he bed for him to wear. His pants from yesterday and one of David's sweaters, and his panties are folded. Who folds panties? David, apparently. Lui gets dressed, giggling to no one when the sweater barely touches his knees and surpasses his hands. He smiles and goes downstairs, trying to force back the blush on his face.
Evan is eating at the dining table, a bowl of cereal left for Lui. Evan smiles at Lui and Lui smiles back, walking over. "Where is David?" He asks, taking a seat and pulling the bowl towards himself.
Evan shrugs, swallowing his mouthful. "He helped me reach his stupidly high cupboards and said he had to go. He probably is needed at the station."
Lui blushes a little and takes a bite of food. He tells Evan everything, and this was Evan's idea. "David and I had sex last night." He blurts out, making Evan choke on his food.
"You did!? Seriously!?" Evan gapes, unable to hide the grin on his face.
Lui nods, smiling like an idiot now. "He was... nice. Like, really good. Nice and really good." He lays, looking down and blushing.
Evan elbows Lui gently, smiling at him. "Did he... say anything?" Lui isn't surprised that it's less likely for someone to say "I love you" to them other then just fucking them. Lui realizes in a split second, that was Luke. For Evan, that was Luke.
"No but um... Are you okay, Ev?" Lui asks warily, doing his best to smile.
Evan nods, eating his cereal again. "Peachy." He says, and Lui takes that as "Don't ask" and leaves it be. "So... what are we supposed to do?"
Lui shrugs again, looking around. "We could... highjack the TV?"
"What about the club? Only Craig would be working."
Lui snickers, shaking his head. "Nuh-uh. Tyler made Craig his Go-To. Plus, it's a Monday, so the club is closed."
Evan snorts, milk dribbling from his nose. "How do you know!?"
Lui shakes his head, taking a bite of his cereal. "I saw things I never want to see again."
Evan starts laughing, and Lui giggles, and they finish their breakfast with more light-hearted conversation, trying to forget their lives, try to forget the murders. It doesn't work, but at least they're distracted. After they finish eating, they go to the living room, filled with worn couches that creak when you sit but that's fine, they're comfortable. They talk, and Lui manages to make David's TV work, and they lean on each other.
Evan curls up and lays his head in Lui's lap, closing his eyes to get more sleep. Lui just smiles and lets him, watching the dorky show on TV that's just funny enough to be entertaining, but not enough to make him laugh. He knows he shouldn't, but he falls asleep too. For now, just for now, they're content.
