2.
Even though Sanjay suggested I will torture her, I will not. Not because she is or was important. I have my life. If we can exploit our positions for personal agenda then what's the point of studying ethics?
Anagha was precise with her diagnosis, she did not take much time to analyze patient condition and her treatment plan is good so far. I have taught 2 batches till now from her dept and none of them could get it first time. If she is able to do it then I shouldn't be in her path. If she doesn't as her professor I will guide her not torture her.
She is going through enough because of me.
" Amogh! Look at her man!." Sanjay said referring to Anagha.
" What?." I asked him.
" Can you believe it? She got it right! I thought like her seniors she's going to be wrong!. Brilliant I say!." Sanjay talked as we walked to general medicine dept.
" What do you think? Her age? I mean she is in 2nd year ! If I get to approach her maybe I can marry after her MD completion?." Sanjay spoke out of blue.
What?
" Listen Sanjay. Teach students about the subject you got degree in not the other way around. You will hit on any women who looks brilliant on you?." I asked him.
" Whoa! What did I say?." He said holding his hands up.
I sighed and left him alone. Typical behavior of single men.
"If you are interested then say it!." He commented entering my cabin. I asked him to get out politely as patients started coming in. His questions do trigger my emotional instability.
Anagha shouldn't get trapped in his sweet talk!
" Excuse me sir. There's 2nd yr pg from Pediatric Department waiting for you outside." My nurse informed me. I gestured her to send them in.
" May I come in sir?." I heard her voice.
Why so formal?
" Yes." I said. Anagha along with her batchmate entered my cabin looking scared. I asked them to sit down and listened to her observations, tests they have to perform.
" Sir I think it's better to hand over the case to your department as the child will be under going surgery." She spoke while her friend agreed upon it.
I knew she is good!
" Good. Like I said, time is very important. I see you have made friends." I said looking at both of them. She had confused face while he was shocked.
" With time." I ended my sentence. Relief washed over their faces.
" I have asked my doctors to prepare that child for the surgery as soon as reports are clear. Do join me and observe. For now you are free to go. " I said trying not to waste my time. She got up first to leave but I needed to speak with her.
" Dr Anagha. Stay back. I need to ask few things regarding patient ." I said making her friends eyes go wide.
" You can stay Dr Jaidev if you are interested to answer viva. Anyways yours will be taken before surgery." I said making him leave my chamber. Anagha looked at me quietly. Getting up from my chair I closed the door properly and stood few away from her.
"What are you doing?." She questioned making me smile.
"I have not done anything these many years, what will I do now?." I asked her. She went silent looking away.
"How are you doing? You are going to be in final year in couple of months. " I asked her.
"So far good. " She replied.
"Hmmm. Good. You have improved well. Just wanted to make sure you are comfortable. Don't take stress." I said looking at her.
"Yes sir. Thank you. " She was about to leave. But then I held her hand.
"I..I wanted to tell you that Sanjay might hit on you. Be careful. " I said. She turned around gave me a small smile.
"He already did. " She said before leaving my cabin. An unknown emotion passed through my chest as if I am hit by a truck.
Even though he's my best friend, a decent guy with good looks and simple lifestyle. I felt insecurity within me.
Why now?
"Hey man! I saw Dr Anagha leave your cabin!." Sanjay walked in. I feel like punching him but I won't.
"We were discussing about the case. Haven't you seen her batchmate leaving my cabin?." I asked him.
"I did they both are talking intensely at reception that's where I bumped into him. They look cute together though. Don't you think?." Sanjay asked me. I could feel same emotion again.
"I only see cases in this hospital. Not waste time like you. " I said getting up from my chair. Just then my clock struck 4pm indicating that my duty is done. For now.
Igniting my car to life, I drove peacefully listening to light music. My dad was top surgeon in this city Mumbai. He over worked himself to stay on top. A habit which I always disliked. Being a neurosurgeon, I know my brains limit, my body's needs and limitations in my life.
Looking at her today, my heart swelled with relief, finally I get to work with her. See how well she's progressing in her career. Officially, I can guide her without any limitations.
But is Anagha excited to see me?
My mom was right. Women endure a lot silently. Not for their sake or anyone else's but they are trained since years to be that way. I wonder what men are capable of? Honking my horn I looked left to see Anagha driving her scooty while the other batchmate talk into her ear . His right hand is lifting her fallen college bag over her shoulder while the left one rested upon her shoulder. She looked as if she's ready for Olympic scooty race with serious expression.
I honked again to gain her attention and she did look at me but trained her eyes on road. With a small glance she crossed my car moving ahead in this heavy traffic.
What was his name again?
Jaidev ?
Kattapa ?
