Chapter 3

I feel like shit, my head's hurting, my muscles are sore, and I swear someone tied my stomach into a knot. But, I love my readers so here I bring le chapitre trois

Edit: I feel fine now

Emberpaw was awoken by a harsh shove into his side. The apprentice sat up abruptly, having been a light sleeper ever since he was young. Well, younger.

He looked at the cat who had shoved him. It was Shadowpaw. The gray tabby had his hind paws digging into Emberpaw's side, but he was sound asleep. Emberpaw looked around the den. It was rather large for the small dead end it was placed in. Emberpaw, Fernpaw, and Shadowpaw were at the back of the group of apprentices, tucked into a corner a little away from the group. Lightpaw, Pouncepaw, Hollypaw, and Sorrelpaw were clustered a bit away with Cherrypaw and Seedpaw, the two youngest apprentices besides them.

Emberpaw had no idea what time it was, but he was awake now so there was no turning back.

Standing up slowly, he carefully made his way around the sleeping apprentices. When he reached the main cave, it was still rather dark out, but the fiery-eyed apprentice could see that dawn was approaching.

"You're up early," came a voice behind him. Emberpaw jumped and turned around swiftly, claws out.

He breathed a small sigh of relief when he saw it was just Ivypool. His fur fell flat and his claws sheathed.

"I could say the same for you," Emberpaw retorted.

"I'm on guard duty, I have to stay awake," Ivypool purred. Emberpaw felt his fur heat up a little in embarrassment.

"Shadowpaw woke me up," he confessed.

"He gets it from Dovewing, she always used to wake me up."

Emberpaw gave a small nod.

Ivypool looked up at the hole in the cave roof. "It'll be dawn soon, we may as well start training now." She stood up and padded towards the dark forest cats den. "Tempestfang, you go take Fear's shift. She's at the moor entrance. Infernobreeze, you take my shift."

The two cats looked up for where they were sleeping.

Infernobreeze gave a yawn and padded out of the den, Tempestfang following shortly after.

Ivypool turned back to Emberpaw. "I'm actually glad you're awake. I want to show you something."

Emberpaw watched with curiosity as Ivypool lead him out of the tunnels and into the moor.

They walked for some time, the stars twinkling above.

Dawn was just breaking surface when they arrived at a rise, the sun rising quickly. Ivypool lead him over the rise, and Emberpaw felt his jaw unhinge.

It looked as though someone had taken a great lake of gold and poured it over the mountain peak and its surrounding slopes. The flowers were planted in majestic, swirling patterns, great ribbons and swaths of light orange, cloudy white, lemon yellow, sunset pink, and deep red. Each different-colored variety was planted in large groups so that it swirled and flowed like its own river with its own unique hue. There were miles of flowers to be seen.

"Wow," Emberpaw breathed, finally finding his voice.

Ivypool chuckled a little bit. "I would come here for hours and just watch the twolegs work on this, they planted flower over flower for seasons without stopping. It was strange to see something so destructive and loud and arrogant make something so beautiful."

Emberpaw gaped at her. "Twolegs made this? Stinky, stupid, good for nothing twolegs?"

Ivypool purred. "I thought the same thing when I first saw them working."

"Does anyone else know about this?"

"No one else I know would really care. I'm surprised you did."

"Why wouldn't I care? This is amazing!"

Ivypool gave a mrrow of laughter. "We should start training."

Emberpaw gave her a funny look. "You're not like the others," he said. It wasn't a question, it was a statement.

"Well, if all mice were perfect, we wouldn't have birds," Ivypool conceded.

Emberpaw didn't argue.
