Chapter 3 - You look awfully healthy for someone who's supposed to be dead

***Three weeks later**** (A/N: because I write horrible filler chapters)

Lexi POV:

Three weeks since I left camp. Almost a month and a half since the Battle of New York. (my second battle of New York technically)

Turns out there weren't any missions waiting for me. So Fury lied to me, no suprise there. I'm starting to realize why Tony doesn't trust him as much as I originally did. Connor did have a project so I rarely see him anymore. Its called Project Insight or something. He got moved up to a level six agent for the project as well. I don't exactly have clearance for that....so yeah, I don't know much about it.

I moved into Stark Towers a little while ago, and to be honest, I love it there. Connor and I share the place. Its this huge space that's takes up about two stories. Downstairs there is a kitchenette, a bathroom and three bedrooms. One of them is mine, one its Connor's and a guest one. It has access to the balcony so I can call Pegasi as needed. The elevator also connects to the downstairs level. Then up the spiral staircase and you arrive in Demigod Haven. Or any videogame nerd's haven. We've got beanbag chairs, a ton of gaming consoles, laptops, giant tvs, gaming chairs, headsets, you name it, we got it. Plus a ton of movies as well.

Perks of living in the same penthouse as a billionaire.

I've been training a lot with Clint and Natasha lately and to be honest, I get creamed every freaking time. But I'm getting better....hopefully. They have been pushing me to my limits to prepare me for the worst. And I am actually grateful. I really don't want to fall twenty thousand feet again. I heard that sometime in January I'm being relocated to Washington D.C. with Natasha, Steve and Connor to SHIELD's new building that is currently under construction. But until then, I'm staying put here. For now.

"Hey Lexi? You gonna stop daydreaming or what?" Sammy's voice snaps me from my thoughts. She waves her hand him

"What?" I ask looking around at what I missed and slapping her hand away at the same time..

"Fury actually has a mission for you." She says. "It came in like fifteen minutes ago. And apparently..."She smiles, looking down at the file, "We're gonna get level seven clearance for this stuff."

I laugh curling my fingers together like a cliche movie villain. "Ooh what dirty little SHIELD secrets are we gonna find out now."

"Keep talking like that and you're gonna turn into Iron Man." Agent Hill says, walking out of the elevator.

"We wouldn't want that now would we?" Sammy laughs.

"No we really don't need two Tony Starks. The world already has to deal with one." She says, letting out a rare smile. "You two ready for debriefing?"

Sammy and I nod and she ushers us back into the elevator. "Information Surveillance and Analysis." She says to the computer.

"Agents Carson and Segal do not have authorization for this level."

"Override Beta Level 7. Order of Agent Maria Hill."

"Override confirmed."

I look at the control panel curiously as the elevator sinks deeper into the compound. "Director Fury teach you that one?"

"No, but someone else did."

The elevator doors open to reveal a room full of computers and people running back and forth, analyzing information, threats and all of that fun stuff.

"We received information about a group of people who had collected Chitauri and Levathian remains from the battle. You two will be working together with a team to collect the remains and the suspects." Hill says, leading us to a room away from the bustle.

"Who's going to be on the team? I read through the file but it didn't mention any specific names." Sammy asks.

Hill smirks. "You'll see." Sammy and I look at each other nervously. She picks up two duffle bags with our names on them and hands them to us. This should be everything you need. Do you two know who Melinda May is?"

I smile and nod. AKA the Calvary as she is know to pretty much all of SHIELD.

"Good, she's waiting up in the hanger with the Bus. Inside is going to be the team that you two will be working with. Please try not to blow it up. The team has only been together for a couple missions and its already happened multiple times."

"We make no promises." Sammy and I say at the same time, laughing and then fist bumping each other.

"Good god you two are going to fit right in." Agent Hill groans.

I wave at her and then walk back to the elevator.

"Hanger." I say to the elevator and it closes and rises toward the surface.

"So who do you think is going to be on this team?" I ask Sammy.

"I don't know, probably someone who has had experience with aliens and stuff like this." Sammy shrugs, playing with the tag on her duffel bag.

The elevator doors open and we walk out to the hanger where my motorcycle and some SHIELD vehicles are parked.

I walk by  my motorcycle and stroke my fingers lightly over its glossy blue and black paint. With my touch it turns on and the engine revvs to life. The bike is programmed to only respond to my touch. But I like to think it likes me. "I'm gonna miss you too." I laugh and walk toward the giant black airbus. "Oh god she's talking to her bike again." Sammy teases.

"Oh shut up."

The cargo door opens and a middle aged Asian woman walks down in SHIELD gear.

"Carson and Segal?" She asks sharply.

"That's us, I assume you're Agent May?" I ask.

"You got that right. Come on, I'll introduce you to the guy who dragged me into this mess." She walks back up into the plane and Sammy and I share a questioning look. We follow her past a black SHIELD SUV and a familiar looking old red convertible.

"I swear I've seen this car before. It looks exactly like......" I mumble, tempted to touch the red paint job, only to hear an all too familiar phrase from an all too familiar voice.

"Don't touch Lola."

I look up and see the one and only standing on the balcony, smirking like crazy.

"Seriously Carson, I thought you knew better than that. Barton trained you well enough not to do that. And I thought paintball taught you as well."

I cover my mouth in shock as he climbs down the spiral staircase. "Oh my gods Coulson!" I give him a tight hug and pull away, wiping stray tears from my eyes.

"Hey is the great Silver Arrow actually crying." He teases, wiping away another tear.

"Oh shut up Phil. You look awfully healthy for someone who is supposed to be dead." I say, punching him playfully in the arm.

"I was in Tahiti, it was a magical place." Coulson says and opens the lab door behind us.

"Be wary, Coulson does have the tendency to say that quite often." A guy says with a pleasant sounding accent.

"Really does. Along with the Lola phrase as well." A familiar girl says with the same accent. I turn around and give Simmons a hug. I met her a couple times when she got stationed at the New York compound.

"Lexi this is Fitzsimmons. Fitzsimmons meet Agents Lexi Carson and Sammy Segal." Coulson says gesturing at the duo.

"Fitz. Good to see you again Lexi" The Simmons says pointing to the boy laughing knowingly. I smile at her with a teasing glare.

"Simmons, nice to meet you Lexi." The boy says pointing to the girl and then shaking my hand. I smile and shake it back.

Those two always stick to the same introduction. And it gets me laughing every time.

"Let me take you upstairs to the nice part." Coulson smiles and guides the two of us up the spiral staircase. "That I take it has blown up multiple times." I comment.

"Fury tell you that?"

"No," Sammy says, "Agent  Hill did."

"Figures. These are the rooms where you two will stay." Coulson says, pointing to the closet-like pods on the side of the hallway. I toss my duffle on my bed and follow Coulson around.

"Hey I'm just gonna chill here okay?" Sammy questions, looking longing at the bed. Then I remember she was working a late night last night with some level five anaylsts.

"I think that should be fine." Coulson says and Sammy flops down on the bed with a satisfied groan. "Lexi stop judging me, I can feel it."

I chuckle. "Too late."

"Too late for what?" Another voice says behind me.

I turn around to see another girl but with a slight tan and dark brown hair. "Agent Carson this is Skye, one of the recruits from the-"

"Rising Tide." I smile.

"You know about it?" Skye asks.

"I've heard of you guys. Some bad, but some good as well." I nod, smiling warmly at her. She seems really nice.

"Thanks, I think." Skye laughs.

Coulson looks between the two of us and says, "I'm going to go talk to May about takeoff. Lexi why don't you spar with Skye a little, show her some of your skills, since Skye's SO is resting."

"Sure, sounds fun. You up to it?" I ask Skye.

"You bet. I'll go change." She responds, retreating to her room.

"Sweet, I'll go set up." I call to her. "See you down there! Bring your A game!"

There's a pause and I hear, "Please bring your C game so I don't like pass out." I laugh and walk back toward the cargo hold.
