|Ch.15| Costumes And Catastrophes
(Song: Boom Clap - Charlie XCX)
(Y/N's P.O.V)
"I... Am... HERE!!!" All Might's voice carries across the room and down the halls, the booming sound uplifting all hearts it touches.
"All Might!" Izuku gasps, a grin on his face.
"...Coming through the door like a hero!!" The number one hero appears in all of his glory, dressed in his Silver Age costume. He leans into the door and slowly struts up to the front of the room, invoking giddy murmurs of child-like glee.
"Wow, I can't believe it's really All Might!" A boy with yellow hair (his name is Kaminari, I believe) gapes. His golden eyes glimmer with excitement.
"Welcome to the most important class at U.A. High!" All Might booms, "Think of it as 'Hero-ing 101'! Here, you will learn the basics of being a pro, and what it means to fight in the name of good! Let's get into it! Today's lesson will pull no punches!" He holds out a card for everyone to see. The word 'BATTLE' is written in bright red on the card."
"Fight training!" Bakugou laughs roughly, a malicious grin on his face.
"Heck yeah!" I cheer enthusiastically, throwing my fist into the air.
"One of the keys of being a hero is... Looking good!" All Might strikes a pose. As if on command, small boxes slide out of the wall to my left. Each one has a number. "Get yourselves suited up, and then meet me at Training Ground Beta!"
"Yes, Sir!"

(This is Y/N's outfit, just in case you haven't seen it yet. The art is mine.)
"They say clothes make the pros, young ladies and gentlemen, and behold, you are the proof!" All Might exclaims, throwing his hands into the air as the class enters Training Ground Beta. As we group up, I can't help but admire everyone's costumes. Iida's armour, makes him look like a knight...Bubbles' costume looks super spacey and cute... Where's Izuku?
As if on cue, the boy runs out and into the open, his green costume strikingly noticeable. With the tufts on his head and the mouth-piece around his face...
Good Lord, he looks like a fucked up version of All Might. Way to be subtle about your inspiration, Broccoli. Still, pretty cool...
"Take this to heart, ladies and gentlemen!! From now on, you are all... Heroes In Training!" My heart skips excitedly at this as I move towards the front, my once thin smile stretching further upon my face. I'm a hero in training! I'm on my way!!
Glancing to my left, I spot my blonde friend standing idle in direct view of the sun. His outfit is intricate, and amazing.
His hero costume is composed of a skin-tight black sleeveless tank top with an orange "X" across the middle, the two upper prongs the v-neck collar of his shirt. There are two dots along the left line of his collar. His costume also features a metallic neck brace fashioned and used as a collar with rectangular ends, with three holes in each of them. His sleeves reach from within his massive, grenade-like gauntlets to his biceps, and his belt, which also carries grenades, holds up his baggy pants with knee guards, below which he adorns black, knee-high combat boots with orange soles and eyelets. His mask is jagged and black. A large, orange-rimmed flare shape protrudes from behind his ears on each side.
My eyes widen with surprise and confusion as I continue to give the boy a stare, my heart flying out of my chest and swelling with butterflies. Blush sears through my cheeks, and for a minute, I begin to think my face is on fire. I suddenly feel awkward, demure, and coy, my face twisting into a dorky little smile as I sort of stare at the blonde.
"Y/N-Chan?"
Recoiling slightly, I swing my head in the direction of the foreign voice. My hair sweeps across my face momentarily before coming to rest upon my shoulders as my eyes slowly meet the deep black orbs belonging to a frog-like girl with green hair. Before I ask, say, or blurt a single word, "Are you... romantically interested in Bakugou-San?" She asks bluntly, tilting her head. Her right hand makes it's way to her lips in a curious pointing-gesture. I nearly shriek at the sudden query, but clamp my hands around my mouth just in time.
"No!" I hiss through my hands, shaking my head wildly as if a bee had landed in my hair. With crimson-coloured cheeks, I add, "He's a friend. I swear."
The girl quirks a brow and looks at me sideways, face doubtful. "The way you looked at him just peaked my interest, that's all. I'm Tsuyu Asui, by the way. Ribbit," She reaches out a gloved hand.
Swallowing the knot in my throat, I reach for her hand, my own not quite steady. "Y/N L/N, though I'm sure you knew," I smile nervously, the redness in my cheeks only now beginning to fade. "It's nice to meet you, Asui!"
"Call me Tsu." She says briefly.
"Now that you're ready, It's time for combat training!" All Might interjects loudly.
"Sir!" Iida raises a hand before speaking. "This is the fake city from our entrance exam. Does this mean we'll be conducting urban battles again?"
"Not quite! I'm moving you two steps ahead! You see, most of the fights you see on the news take place outside. However; statistically speaking, most run-ins with the most dastardly evildoers take place indoors, think about it! Backroom deals, home invasions, secret underground lairs! A truly intelligent criminal stays hidden in the shadows," All Might explains, dramatically clenching a fist to his bulky chest. "For this training exercise, you'll be split into two teams of good and bad guys, and fight two-on-two indoor battles!!"
My mouth gapes wide with excitement. Combat! Real fucking combat!! This is so lit...
"Isn't this too advanced?" Asui pipes, her finger pointing to her mouth again.
"Nope! The best training comes to you on the battlefield!! Remember, you can't just punch a robot this time, you're dealing with actual people now. I--"
"--Sir, will you be deciding who wins?"
"How much can we hurt the other team?"
"Do we need to worry about the losers getting expelled like earlier?"
"Will the class be split up by chance or comparative skill?"
"Isn't this cape tres chic~?"
My head spins from the bombardment of questions on all sides. Should I ask something too? I can't follow what's going on, I'm so confused...! What the hell--
"Grh, I wasn't finished talking!" The hero hisses quietly, pulling a book from his pocket. "Here's the scenario. The villains have hidden a nuclear missile inside of their hideout. It's the hero's job to foil their plans. The heroes win if the villains are captured or the weapon is uncovered. Likewise, the villains win if the capture the heroes or keep their payload," All Might glances up from the script-like booklet and faces us. He seems to count our heads for a moment before sweat-dropping and looking back and forth, confusion lacing his face. "I, uh... one moment, class!" He points a finger to the sky and quickly strolls away from us. Murmurs of confusion arise from the crowd and float through the air at the sudden change of attitude.
"What's happening?" I ask.
"There's either an unforeseen flaw in the plan, or..." Iida trails off, counting heads just as All Might did a second ago. When his finger lands pointed towards me, the boy seems to come to a realization and places a hand on his chin. "Oh... there seems to be an odd number of heads... which means there's a halt in the way we must split up into teams! Of course there's confusion, because you're the extra classmate!"
"What do you mean, 'Extra Classmate'?" I ask indignantly.
"Very, very rarely, if U.A. High has the maximum number of students allowed in their curriculum and they happen to see potential in another child, they will invoke a policy that allows them to let in one more student to train in their school. Obviously, you must be the extra student, because I didn't see your name on the class list the day before we started. You're very lucky, you know!" He explains, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I am back!" All Might laughs, strutting back over to us. "Our issues have been resolved, and there has been a slight change of plans!!"
"What is it?"
"Well, since we have an extra student this year, we'll be switching things up! Instead of simply fighting the other team, we'll be using a hostage to teach safety and responsibility! A life will be on the line, so work carefully!!"
"It's gonna be me, isn't it?" My shoulders slump slightly.
"Nope! It's--" All Might halts mid-sentence, "--Eh... H-How did you know?"
Brows furrowed in annoyance, I step up to the hero and cross my arms over my chest. "Had a hunch," I grumble, my tail-fin twitching slightly. Dammit, I wanted to be a part of the combat stuff.
"Ahem... Uh, t-time is limited, and we will choose teams by drawings lots!" All Might thrusts a yellow box into the open. Where'd that come from...?
"...Isn't there a better way?" Iida asks.
"Think about it!" Izuku chimes, "Heroes have to team up with people from different agencies on the spot,so maybe that's why we're seeing that here!"
"Ah. Yes, I see. Life is a random series of events, unpredictable to us. Excuse my rudeness!"
"No sweat. Let's draw!!" The hero laughs with a punch to the sky. Huffing quietly, I pout my lip like that of a small child. Irritation builds in my chest. Bending down to my level, "Here, you read the cards." All Might murmurs, pushing the box into my hands. The size of the container prevents me from pulling anything out, so I resort to placing it on the ground beside me. Pulling out two yellow cards, I begin to read.
"Team A: Ochaco Uraraka and Izuku Midoriya!"
"Team B: Shouto Todoroki and Mezo Shoji!"
"Team C: Minoru Mineta and Momo Yayorozu!"
"Team D: Tenya Iida and... Katsuki Bakugou!" I smile. So that's his first name... It's fitting. Placing the cards aside, I continue reading.
I finish reading with a glance to the crowd, making sure the groups formed properly while I wasn't looking. Looks okay, but I couldn't tell because I can't put a name to a face...
All Might whips two boxes out of nowhere again, one black and marked 'Villains' and one white, marked 'Heroes'. Where the fuck is he getting these?? Some kind of magic shit going on here... I'm not a fan, I gotta say.
"I declare the first teams to fight will be... These guys!" He holds up one black and one white orb from each container.
Team A
Team D
Tensing up, my mind flashes back to yesterday's events, how Bakugou and Deku's rivalry was made known to the class. Biting my knuckles, I mutter, "Shit, that's an oof..."
"Team A will be the heroes, and Team D will be the villains! Everyone else can head to the monitoring room to watch. Our hostage can head to one of the marked locations on her map and wait for the heroes to arrive."
"Yes, Sir!"
As the students walk away, I move towards Bakugou and Iida. "Hey, Blondie!" I smile, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Your costume is freaking awesome. You look lit."
"Eh?" He raises an eyebrow. "I what, now?"
"Huh? Oh, lit! It's an American term... Basically means you're a badass." I smile sheepishly, scratching the nape of my neck.
"Psh, duh," He rolls his crimson eyes. "I look awesome in anything."
With a small smirk, I move to stand beside the blonde, my heart jumping in his presence.
"Good luck, then, Mr. Evil Mastermind." I say with a laugh.
